Best method to copy mixed-mode CD?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to convert some old game CDs I had to CD images. The problem is in addition to the game data, they contain redbook audio (CD music tracks) in addition to the data. There are lots of programs out that there will copy discs, but CD audio data doesn't have the same kind of headers on the data like computer information does, so there's a higher chance of copying with audio imperfections, like pops or skips. Normally something like Exact Audio Copy is the best method for copying audio, but I don't think it supports data copying like this. Does anyone know of good software for copying the disc AND having extra attention paid to the audio copying to ensure a good rip?

I noticed the same problem when I burned an ISO of Quake 2 and the music stopped and started at the wrong moments, making the soundtrack a bit glitchy.

I don't really have much experience with ripping mixed mode ISO's so I don't really know any specialized apps for it. I'd say Alcohol 120% and DaemonTools are excellent apps for imaging CD's though.

Personally i think that exact audio copy should work but if you need an alternative dBpoweramp might work

Happy ripping!

He didn't want to rip the audio. He wanted to make an image of the game without corrupting the audio in some way. I think you misunderstood his post slightly.

But regarding ripping, EAC is the best free app out there for the purpose.

oh whoops ;P, but he could get the audio off it seperately and then combine the audio in an iso with the data, but that would be kindof slow and silly

Yes, that sounds a bit like too much work for backing up your games, especially if you have an extensive library of them.

I did this with a copy of Cyberstorm 2... (also a mixed media CD)

Try imaging it with Daemon tools, then burn the image at minimum speed using something like PowerISO. If it asks whether it's an audio or data disc, I think I put it to audio.

The disc works just fine for me in both PCs, and CD players. (track 1 is the data track, so have to skip it unless I like hearing static)

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.
