I honestly don't have a preference. I've had good and bad cats, and good and bad dogs, and they each have their selling points to me.
Personalitywise, I have more in common with a cat. I like to lay in the warm places, I like being solitary and independent, I'm authority-resistant, and if you annoy me I will tear you and everything you hold dear to shreds.
On the other hand, once someone has won my loyalty, I turn into the infinitely forgiving and eternally loyal dog.

My only regret as a lifelong dog owner (I've had a Collie, a German Shepherd and now a Labrador), is the terrible, soul-crushing pain I feel when they die. Don't tell me about cats being treacherous. One of my friends left mine 30 km from his home and he still came back 2 days later. When my grandpa died his cat (10 years old) became insane, meowed almost everyday asking where his owner is and stopped eating and died soon too. That was my favourite cat by the way....

I agree, he was insane. He was behaving like a dog. If you'll excuse, I'm gonna go play fetch with my Lab for a while.

dude, cats die too easily, i've built up an emotional immunity involving me not even getting emotionally close to a cat. i only have one cat whom i'd be upset about if he'd die. but all other cats i pretty much don't even try to get close to.

I like cats, but I also have a favorable opinion of dogs. I've had both for pets, although it's been a long time since either.

I like dogs too, but I'm sadly allergic towards them.

And while I do generally get on with cats better (like the traits J.C. noted, we have so much in common), I should mention that my schnauzer mix, Mac, was the best pet ever. Of all time.

Don't ask me that, I have too much trouble deciding. My cats (Mac and PC) love me, and vice versa, same with my dog Chip. PC sleeps with me every night, Chip plays with me, and I take Mac for walks around the neighborhood. One off-topic remark about PC, is that she got a virus, while Mac, he didn't. Chip just broke his leg.
As for the question, I would have to say cats, they cuddle up with you, and sort of respect your space, while dogs occasionally annoy the hell out of you. But, it's not black and white, dogs are much more playful if you want fun, cats, not so much. Cats will sit on you if you just want some peace and quiet, dogs tend to run around, and by the time they are old enough not to, most are too heavy or big to sit on you or with you. Also, cats can get stuck in very small places, and both can eat something they shouldn't. For me, it is a very close tie between the two.

I like big tabbi cats, we've had two in my household (not at the sametime.) and they were very friendly cats. I've never had a dog, I'm sure they're great the neighborhood dogs were very friendly.

I like all animals, really. For whatever reason I feel a bit stronger towards cats, though, since they have a similar demeanor to myself I guess. Dogs are wonderful for affection.
I have a kitten named Pixel, a dog named Boo (who sadly doesn't live with me, he lives at my moms) and I just got a rabbit, who's name is currently undecided.

Mhmm. You're thinking about Pixies. They're the ones who can shift trough dimensions, according to Freeman. Her's is a Pixel. He can shift between screens, at best

Cats, no question.
Well, my pet of choice in an Eastern Red Bat, but those aren't easily obtainable.
First of all, cats are much smarter than dogs; though, I think a reasonable counter-argument against that is "I don't want a smart pet that will question my authority."
Most importantly, cats are incredibly self-sufficient and low maintenance. You don't have to take them outside for walks and most of the time they're content when you ignore them. Occasionally, they'll sit right down on the textbook you're reading on the table and rub against your face: that's a nice plus.
