Pinkie Pie Posted February 2, 2012 I think I have Origin, just no Origin games, and I only used it to get the beta for TOR. Anyway, if I do have it it's most likely Kaweebo. I don't go on much, though. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Kaweebo/ "There are no good reasons. Only legal ones." VALVE: "Sometimes bugs take more than eighteen years to fix." Alyxx Thorne Posted February 3, 2012 Only used it for the BF3 beta, uninstalled it after the beta was done. I'm barely using it, but I think it's nice to build up a friends list since I will be using it for Syndicate. Bravetriforcer Posted February 3, 2012 Only used it for the BF3 beta, uninstalled it after the beta was done. Same. The "We get to look at your computer files" part was just too much. Even though they've reeled it back to "just" Origin files, the fact they thought the original was at all acceptable is sickening. I love you, yet can't stand to know you exist. Alyxx Thorne Posted February 3, 2012 I haven't experienced any of that yet, so I guess they fixed it. Game developments at http://nukedprotons.blogspot.com Check out my music at http://technomancer.bandcamp.com Share this post Link to post
Bravetriforcer Posted February 3, 2012 I haven't experienced any of that yet, so I guess they fixed it. I doubt they would let you know they were rummaging through your files. I love you, yet can't stand to know you exist. Share this post Link to post
Pinkie Pie Posted February 3, 2012 Sucks for those who were doing illegal things on their computers. XD http://steamcommunity.com/id/Kaweebo/ "There are no good reasons. Only legal ones." VALVE: "Sometimes bugs take more than eighteen years to fix." Share this post Link to post
Alyxx Thorne Posted February 3, 2012 It's bullshit, and this is all a big misunderstanding blown out of proportion. It's actually Windows 7 doing a routine index scan whenever Origin changes some settings in order to assure the games will run perfectly, kinda like how Steam changes the Steam folder access privileges so that Windows won't fuck with it and cause games to run badly. When Windows runs an index scan, this will show up in certain glitches, affecting Aero and such. I believe that some guy saw this and incorrectly assumed Origin was spying on his files. Origin isn't spyware, but if you wanna believe it is, fine with me. And even if it was, I doubt EA would bother using your files against anything. They're a video game publisher and want to offer a good service to their customers. People are just being suspicious because they are using their own platform and it's something new. It's just a conspiracy theory blown out of proportions, nothing more. People need to stop being so paranoid just because they have no idea how Windows 7 works. And finally, this is a thread for people who actually use Origin. If you don't, don't post here. Axeldeath Posted February 3, 2012 (edited) No, in the original EULA it actually allowed them to scan your hard drive and sell the information to third-parties. It still does, it just has a big disclaimer at the top saying they would never risk the trust of their customers. Steam does the exact same thing but you can opt-out, Origin doesn't allow you to. Alyxx Thorne Posted February 3, 2012 Yeah, if they wanna look at my pirated tentacle rape porn and lesbian hentai, sure, go ahead. In all seriousness though, Origin might have a bad reputation, but as long as it doesn't crash my computer, I'm fine.
