I've got the Balls of Steel Edition preordered. I'm honestly interested in the game more because of its near mythical status as eternal vaporware that its actual quality (I'm sure it will be awesome, but that's more a fringe benefit). In May, one of gaming's greatest running gags comes to an end. Anyone else care?

Just owning it would be worth it.

Honestly, I never liked that it became a bit of a joke, because I have always believed it would come out one day. There's tons of reasons it has been in development hell, more than I care to dive into right now. Just to be proven right for once is awesome for me.

I grew up with Duke Nukem. The first shareware game that came out in 1992 for the good old DOS computers remains one of my earliest and fondest gaming memories. I missed out on Duke Nukem II but Duke Nukem 3D I played a lot and still do.

He's the ultimate action hero for me. Both a parody and tribute to all the great macho action heroes of the 80's. For me there is only one king and he's coming back.

And to clarify, it won't be a Gearbox game. Gearbox has stated that what they took over was more or less the final product and they have only prepared it for release. This is fully the 3d realms game that we have been waiting for.

I think of Duke Nukem as the extreme indulgement in the juvenille interests of people who play video games at large.
The sooner the game is overwith, the sooner video games at large can explore beyond cheap sex appeal and cliche storylines for wider scope.

What is wrong with indulging into that once in a while? I'm not against more thoughtful games, it's just that once in a while I am in the mood for Duke.

I've seen that notice too. I'm actually kinda glad in a weird way, cause now I have time to play Portal 2 more and Duke will be (hopefully) coming out right around my birthday. Plus have you seen the Gearbox video where they announced the delay? F***ing priceless! In pseudo-celebration of this I decided to finally pick up the xbox arcade port of Duke 3D and play through that again. I haven't touched that game in, well, forever.

Well yeah, it was a funny video. And my response was meant as a joke. 8-)

As if people will suddenly stop buying and playing the yearly, frozen-at-full-price-for-years Call of Duty self-parodies once DNF is out. The good stuff already exists and will not cease to being made, you just have to dig into the internet to find it, as it is for the most part pretty obscure. The mainstream will always continue being a flow of shit with the occasional puddle of genius, you don't exactly get games like Deus Ex, System Shock or Thief on regular basis.

that line wasn't directed at you, it wasn't really directed at anybody at all.

EDIT: might that be Sidney's ultra SMG by chance?

So you think of Duke Nukem as what he is and is not avoiding being? Besides, just because one game has sex appeal means that any and all progress by the industry as a whole is completely obliterated with no hope of recovery? Plenty of games have been exploring beyond cheap sex appeal and cliches in the time the game was being made, Duke's just coming back to give us a good time. Especially since the game's hardly playing any of it straight.

As for me, I don't mind the delay really. It'll give me something to do in the summer and give me more time for Portal 2 and Bulletstorm. It'll be even better for the game as a whole since there will be very little competing against it at that time. Gearbox delayed Duke Nukem Forever because they miscalculated just how much polish the game will need before it goes out. So at least they're committed to releasing the game in the best condition possible.

Randy also said that some of the guys are preparing a gameplay reel to soften the blow and is hoping to get demo info out before May, so there.

Nice little interview with Randy by Jace Hall. Also a short little clip of glorious roid rage at the end. Next week's episode is to have extended amounts of gameplay footage, so be on the lookout for the show on April 1st.

Nope. Just a random one. But Sidney's one is awesome.

I was more like this.
 ... ;) ;) ;) .... :? ... .... :)

I thought it might have been an early April Fools' joke at first. Then Randy posted his apology post on the Gearbox forums...then I realized that releasing DNF too early would suck.

I know. I am happy it's being released at all.

Speaking of which, do you have the Balls of Steel Edition or normal edition preordered? I'll admit, I mostly went into a fanboy frenzy when I saw the bust and preordered the BOSE off Amazon with Day 1 delivery.

Same here, I pre-ordered the BoS edition just for Duke's bust.

Wait... that came out wrong.
