I'm not so much into songs themselves. I'm more into different genres or different bands more than individual songs.

I'm the exact opposite.

My list would exceed the 60000 character limit... Twice...

Suffice to say, I'm an eclectic audiophile. (I like a lot of different styles, but they have to be awesome)

I really like songs that combine styles, country/rock combo especially.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

8418 songs total in my lie-berry. 8-)

The key to getting lots of music is hoarding. When I hear a song I like, I get the whole album. When I hear that an artist is similar to an artist I like, I download their discography. Oh, and if you're paying money for your music, you'll never have a large collection. ;)

Well there can't possibly be 8418 songs that one can all like D:!!!!!

I used to download charts and my collection used to be some thousands on the computer (Still much less then 8418) as a one time max but really, so many songs I didn't like or got bored I almost restarted my collection from the beginning and since then if I do download charts, which is rarely cause they are mostly crap to me, I pick out like 1 or two good songs from them....

As I said in another topic individually right now I get maybe 2-4 tracks per week, but I search for them for more then 15 hours.... and it gets worse and harder every time, it almost seems I have picked out more then 70 % of every excellent track in Techno, Trance, House or Minimal to my ears there is so far...

I might need to shift genres soon to keep tracks coming but first I need a new mp3 player... probly 64 gb will be enough for every excellent track in the genres I'm looking for

Interesting that there are no mentions of any "serious" rock artists

Genesis

Jethro Tull

King Crimson

Yes

Van Der Graaf Generator

The Strawbs

Traffic

The Doors

Jefferson Airplane/Starship

Deep Purple

Uriah Heep

Camel

...

I wonder if that's because noone on this board likes these bands or purely because people haven't heard them (or about them)? If that's the latter, then I'm sure that some of those who posted here might like some or all of these groups...

Not sure what you mean. You've listed bands from many different genres. Yes, for example, is a prog rock band.

Bands like Pink Floyd, Rush and Led Zeppelin have been mentioned, which anyone would agree are "serious" rock bands, though I'm not sure exactly what *you* mean by that.

I should have said "... any of the following serious ..." Anyway, I used "serious" for want of a better word because, as you say - the list does not cover just one particular style.

What I meant was, for instance, you may have a list in a post here ranging from AC/DC and Iron Maiden to Zeppelin to Dire Straits to Frank Sinatra and REM. Covers pretty much everything from metal to pop but the bands from my list are conspicuous by their absence.

So, I was genuinely wondering - is it because nobody likes that kind of music or is it because it is not widely known anymore?

Rock music is pretty known. If I ask if someone listens to rock and they answer no, they still have a good idea of what it is. Now electronic music genres are different. Most people don't know what it is. I find that if you find one genre of electronic music you like, you will like others too. For example, I started out with Techno (yes, straight up Techno, I know what I'm talking about), then started listening to Tech House, Then Prog and Electro House, Then Funky House and Breakbeats, then somewhere along the way I found an interest in Trance.

Note: I am only speaking for the US and in personal experience.
