Top 10 Overrated Games

Recommended Posts

I don't find TF2 overrated so much, personally I find the hate against hats and the hat community to be totally blown out of proportion. The only thing that bothers me is that everything...EVERYTHING has to be turned into TF2 something. Any new kind of fad or meme of anything has to be attributed to TF2 now.

I just see TF2 as an exceedingly well designed multiplayer game. I don't even like multiplayer in general, but I've logged hundreds of hours in TF2.

Any other gripes you have with it, like hats and such, can be legitimate, but it doesn't change the fact that TF2 plays beautifully. You might even have the argument that one class is overpowered, or the class you're playing is underpowered, but I guarantee you these opinions are entirely dependent on what class you choose. That's the magic of TF2's balance. You're always challenged in a new way for each class.

10.) Team Fortress 2

I'll give you three guess why. Also, yeah it's fun, but everyone I ask, as to why they like it, it's "hats". Well WHAT ABOUT BEFORE THE HATS!?!?!?!?!

9.) Fallout New Vegas.

Strange I'm talking about this when they're by Bethesda, and that I'm a fan of the Elder Scrolls games, but honestly, I don't think the RPG/freeroaming works for the Fallout games. I feel that they would be better liner as fuck, which will counter what's next on my list.

8.) Bioshock

Told you my "liner as fuck" comment about Fallout would counter this. See, Bioshock, which Steam claims as an RPG/FPS hybrid, lies. It's not an RPG, it's liner as fuck, which doesn't work. Let me rephrase that, it doesn't work for this game. The introduction of the game sets it up as a free roam, do what you want, when you want, open world, sandboxish RPG/FPS hybrid, that the Fallout games are. Essentially Bioshock and the Fallout games should of switched places!

7.) C.O.D. series/Battlefield Series

Now grant it, I've never played a Battlefield game, but to me, both series are THE GORRAM SAME! the only real difference is that Battlefield has drivable vehicles, and it's more team oriented. I'm sick and tired of people going "no! They're completely different! they have different maps so they're different!". I'll admit it, I'm interest in trying Battlefield 3, and, like I said earlier, it's more team based, which I like, so who knows what'll happen after trying Battlefield 3.

6.) Terraria

Again, it's the same gorram game as Minecraft, if Minecraft was 2D, and had "bosses", which I'm sure you can do with mods. Yet people still insist they're completely different from each other, even after I tell them that you can make Minecraft even more like Terraria with mods.

5.) Every single rhythm/dancing/instrument game out there, real and fictional.

I don't feel like explaining, soooo next game.

4.) LittleBigPlanet

The novelty of "create what the fuck you want, when the fuck you want, how the fuck you want" of the game wore off really quickly.

3.) Every Pokemon game out there

They're all the same, Black and White is the same as Red and Blue, deal with it.

2.) Every Sports game out there (especially by EA)

Like with every Pokemon game, they're all the same, Madden NFL 12 is the exact same thing as Madden NFL 1 just "modernized".

Let's recap: Team Fortress 2, Fallout New Vegas, Bioshock, C.O.D. series/Battlefield series, Terraria, Every single rhythm/dancing/instrument game out there, real and fictional, LittleBigPlanet, Every Pokemon game out there, and Every Sports game, and now on the number one spot:

*drum roll*

1.) Halo series

Where do I begin? Oh I know what I shall do, I'll make a checklist of your "generic FPS" and see how many the Halo series fit.

[x] Your main character is a super solider/space marine

[x] The player's entire health bar should regenerate. This means you just have to make levels cluttered [with square crates, obviously, since for some reason they're accepted in place of actual scenery] and the player will be able to keep alive no matter what.

[x] Only allow the player two weapons. This means you don't have to bother to balance the weapons since you can just refuse to give ammo for them until they have to be thrown away. For bonus points, make the pistol fit into the same system so it ends up completely useless.

[x] Throw in at least two of the following: an on-rails shooting section, a sniping section, a section controlling a mounted weapon, a vehicle section with a vehicle that doesn't have regenerating health, a stealth section, an escort mission, a defend area mission, a timed section.

[x] Use checkpoint saving. Nevermind that modern consoles can manage quicksaving, you know better than the player when it comes to that and being forced to replay sections over and over is a good way to make the game difficult. Nevermind the implication that forcing the player to play your game more constitutes a punishment. For bonus points, put checkpoints immediately before long unskippable cutscenes.

[x] The enemy force should consist largely or entirely of humanoids using weapons the player uses. They should have some kind of dropships and some kind of helicopter, which will act as a boss in one of the few sections where the game bothers to give you a rocket launcher. The remainder of the vehicle list should be: a buggy from your side, a buggy from their side, a tank from your side, a tank from their side, and a turret.

[x] If you're feeling adventurous, throw in mutants with ridiculously strong melee attacks. This is an especially good idea in games that feature a weak shotgun or don't have a weapon equivalent to one.

[x] Assign a motion sensor gimmick. Make it as pointless and annoying as you possibly can.

[x] If you have a melee attack in the game, have it so strong the player starts wondering why the gun can shoot bullets at all.

[x] Have a key assigned to throwing grenades, but make the grenades themselves extremely underpowered. If enemies can throw grenades, let them do so with ludicrous precision. Add in a grenade indicator so the player is never actually in any danger from them.

[x] Make sure the first section of the game is a needlessly condescending and unskippable tutorial because never before has a game asked the player to move around or switch weapons.

I don't dislike TF2 for the hats though. I actually can't specify what it is I don't like about it, I just don't feel any interest in playing it. And every time I play it I just for some reason dislike it even more. I WANT to like it, I WANT to be able to play it because I have so many friends who do, but I can't for some odd reason. I guess the most simple explanation is that, well, I associate it with so many memes nowadays and feel a hint of annoyance just listening to the voices in it. So the problem is not so much the game itself as what it has spawned.

But yeah, the hate against hats thing I don't really get. They're just hats. They don't affect the gameplay in any way really.

As I've said before, it's changed the community. High value hats make people feel superior and scammers just suck. It's like drinking unicorn blood, hats have kept tf2 active, but at what cost?

Unicorns don't exist, and hat's didn't keep TF2 alive either. It's addicting gameplay is what kept it alive. The same can be said for any long lasting multiplayer game. Look at Counter Strike for example. That's been around for 10~ years and no one's buying hats for that game.

I am aware of the lack of evidence for the existence of unicorns, it was a jocular statement referencing a certain text.

True counter-strike is still going fairly strong considering it's age. But I doubt it's community is as large as TF2's, and CS isn't free to play.

But I also don't really know what I'm talking about because I've never even played counter-strike. Maybe it's just Valve being greedy, but I think hats have had major effects on the longevity and size of the TF2 community.

I prefer Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 either way.

Play COD: 4. Now. I don't care what the means are, just play it. Trust me, it is 30 times better than MW3.

My list:

In no particular order

COD:MW2

COD:MW3

Fallout 3

Guitar Hero Series

Rock Band Series

Farmville

Angry Birds

LOZ Series

Super Mario Series

Portal Series

As for TF2, I was a big fan of TFC AvD maps like Dustbowl and Warpath, and what little I've played of TF2 really slowed down the pacing for me. I think it's because it was designed with respawn delays in mind. Not only does that slow down pacing, but it discourages risk-taking some more, so you don't get the kind of frenzied chaos I saw in TFC. Also I can't say I'm fond of the cartoon-ish style (which I guess is a little hypocritical since I really am interested in Fortnite from the trailer).

Well, would be nice if you could specify exactly why CoD4 is better than MW3, but I'll give you my reasons right here.

Let's see... for one, MW3 is completely Steam integrated so it's an ease to play with friends. Another reason is that I can find people on Facebook to play with using that option, and the multiplayer feels more balanced than in CoD4, for instance in CoD4 the multiplayer game was a LOT more unfair to noobs and put a lot of people off playing it because more powerful players would kill them off instantly without them having any chance, which pretty much doesn't exist in MW3 where you have a chance from the get-go. Also it has more options, as well as better killstreak package options that awards any kind of playstyle so whether you prefer to be a lone gun or a team player, the game has you covered, instead of being forced to play a certain way like in games like, I dunno, fucking BATTLEFIELD 3 and TEAM FORTRESS 2.

And, well... fucking akimbo guns.

That's probably my number one reason.

Well. First of all CoD4 works on PC. It lets you adjust your FoV(which I've heard MW3 doesn't let you), it has working dedi's, a butload of great mods. It barely has killstreaks(which in my opinion this is a good thing because killstreaks are an awful addition to the franchise, why would I want bots to kill people for me?). It defenitely is more balanced, guns do what their are supposed to do: shotguns are great at short range, smg's are fast and good at close-medium range but are bad at long range and assault rifles are decent at all ranges. In any CoD past CoD4 you generally see one weapon used all the time, regardless of map, gametype, playstyle.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sure, if that is what you prefer then I can understand that, and then it sort of makes sense why I was given MW1 for free when I bought MW3, since both games sort of compliment each other.

I just prefer MW3 because it, so far, is a much better game than MW2 or Black Ops from what I've heard, and I love playing it.

Oh, and akimbo guns. Fuck yeah. We need more games with dual guns.
