Name Changes No Longer Allowed

Recommended Posts

On May 14th 2012, the Username Change thread will be closed and names can no longer be changed. The reason for this is that name changes have so far only contributed to confusion among members as to who is who and we also think that admins should have other tasks to do than simply changing usernames.

We strongly advice you post in the Username Change Thread now to set what you want your final name to be as on May 14th we close this thread and this name will be locked to your account for good.

We hope this decision won't inconvenience anyone and we hope you understand it.

Why not have it so that we can change our names when we want without talking to an admin?

I think you are missing the point here. The point is that we don't want username changes at all. It is not because it is an inconvenience to admins, but rather that it only causes confusion. We've had several complaints about people not knowing who is who anymore.

Why not make it that you need to keep a name for at lest 6 months befor you can change it agen.

I have to admit, this was quite annoying. I can see it being useful for minor edits (like my name from mes_gots_its to Mes gots its), but huge, constant changes being rampant (especially all the brony name changes, no offense to you guys) was getting pretty ridiculous. Glad to hear that the administration is taking a solid, sensible solution to this super-slippery subject.

We figured it would be easier to just let users pick a name and stick with it. I don't see the point in having more than one nick. This is a forum, not an instant messenger where you can change your nick every other day. I think it is very important to make the difference.

Yes but what if someone joins this forom after the names are locked and are new to this kind of thing, there names might be a little silly, or odd, or just not right. Would you doom them to there fate?

Well I'm not sure about the others, but I'm going to go back to the name I started with as if the name changing never happened.

This was my idea and I gave the decree for it. I've found it confusing that people keep doing this so I don't even know what to refer to someone as because some people change names constantly. I didn't even realize this was a feature when the forum was created actually, if I had I would have set it that way then. If you don't like it, then too bad, I'm not really sure why it's an issue to begin with.

I think it's a good idea. Well, removing signatures wasn't so.

What Kirk said.

But I think maybe we should be able to have our names changed back to the way they were. Like Psychotic Ninja said, I don't like the idea of being a pony forever. (unless it's physical and I was born that way.)

Edit: Okay, I'm just gonna say it.

I'd like it if everyone's name was changed back to the way it was upon joining. (unless it was a name fix)

Uhm, no. I'm pretty content being a pony.

That's why we decided to give you a week's grace period so you can request a name change in case you don't wanna lock in with your current username.
