So I have an opportunity for a temp job I'm considering doing, since money is money. One of the counselors from my old college has some positions available to work at the Blizzcon store. 12/h with two 8 hour days and two 8 1/2 hour days. I mean, it's technically a retail position which is in no way a fair use of my degree but it's also Blizzcon and from what I understand when your shift is over you're free to roam around the convention center and there's no way I'd be able to afford going to Blizzcon otherwise. XD It's also money and I need that.

Money's money. You should only really get worried if you're in retail at say...35. Unless you're a manager, they make good pay.

They're not panties, so it's not embarrassing.

I'd be in favor of a form of enlistment that inviolably agrees to never place you in or near combat. It'd be like regular enlistment except there's zero chance of you being infantry. You'd be a chef, or a mechanic, or a clerk or just about anything else. If your unit gets sent overseas you get moved to someplace else in the States, or in your state, or city or whatever the best they can do is.

Some sort of base garrison maybe? Instead of being tied to a unit you're tied to the facility.

And of course it would never be mandatory.

That's firmly in the 'military contractor' category... There are over 100k jobs that fall in that category.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

In the grand scheme of things, 100k is absolutely nothing. And certainly nothing like the boot camp program that the other guy wants.

That's also ignoring that those jobs were actual military 50 years ago and that this is just a part of the military industrial complex built around selling product to the military, including cheap labor.

So you're saying that you want a completely civilian workforce on all military bases in the mainland USA? (apart from taking away 99% of what the members of the military do outside of wartime, that would be a massive waste of already limited government funds)

Also, there is the Reserves to deal with, as they get the boot camp, monthly paycheck, and only spend a couple weeks on active duty each year unless there's a war. They have the normal military training without the extended active service most people are afraid of.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

Good point. Not exactly feasible for the government to put everyone through training of any kind.

I've had issues finding a job for a long time. I looked a LOT, and got nowhere. Then, suddenly, one just fell in my lap completely independently of the massive amount of effort I put into finding one, making me wonder why I bothered in the fucking first place. That said, I had a great first week, and hopefully my second week will be just as good.

Job hunts are pretty much magic. You realize that around the time you see Art students in management and notice that there ARE unemployed engineers out there.

You can do everything you can, go into a hard field with a million jobs and be just as fucked as the stats said the other guy should be. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's why I chose the MPA. With a degree specific enough for work but general enough for anything Public Sector, depending on where I apply I have a strong chance to be either person in that equation. A third of the Federal workforce retiring in the next 10 years helps too...

I actually want to say thanks for all of you guys for posting in this thread, I mean it sort of makes me feel like I am not alone out there, I mean I am doing my best looking for employment as a security guard, yes I am going to be a security guard (Ross has been one, so has DasBoSchitt) but I only want something solid so if I do become an actor I do have something I can in some ways go back to aswell, I mean I have the talent to become an actor, I just need my big break

Are there any small theatre companies near where you live? The best thing to do is join one of them.

Well I would like to do that Binky, but I dont know if there are any, plus I am sort of writing a short story that is in some ways connected to a scrapped Tarantino Project, that I may try and email to him when I get it completed

Update on blizzcon position:

I think I got it? It's weird. There wasn't even an interview. I went in, Filled out some paperwork and was told that everything checked out and they'd be sending me an email with more info on the job later.

Huh.

After finishing school and failing some academy test, since I couldn't pass it, I asked local printing houses and places where I could work, even smallest jobs or help/assistance, since that's my profession, even had some practice job at this before, so I could say I'm more qualified than other people, yet found nothing. No one wanted me. It's really hard to find anything unless you are 6ft buff guy or young blonde ass with nice smile. That's why I decided to open art commissions and surprisingly I got more money allready than few months of hard work.

Unfortunately, that won't work for me... I'm good with sculpture, not drawing. (requires a lot more money to make something)

Whatever you all choose to do with your lives, I urge you, don't choose a career in retail. The most genocidal misanthrope you can imagine would seem like a garland wearing free love advocate compared to those of us who work in shop.

they pass their abuse from ear to ear

in dying whispers -

even now, when prayers are no longer prayed.

turns out to be laughter.

You know what's really irksome? When the fucking people who interview you are irresponsible, tardy and unprofessional as hell. Completely ruins the image of the place I applied for.
