Birthday thread: Soundtracks

Recommended Posts

Considering that it's your birthday and this is a song I cannot stop listening to since I've heard it:

The Mean Greens - Operation Birthday:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ydNXFF9iIg

Be warned there is some voice in it but I like to think the voice is more comparable to an instrument as there's no line in the song that isn't reused.

Edit:

May I also suggest the Minerva: Metastasis soundtrack. It's an obscure mod by a guy who's now working with Valve but the music is by a person named Zhaytee.

I got a rocking soundtrack from an Xbox Launch Title from 2001, as far as I know it was exclusive to the Xbox, so I'm sure you haven't heard this before. I should warn you that the only way I found this was from YouTube, so I don't think the actual Soundtrack was released, I mean it was only really 7 tracks anyway. In fact, I'm sure there are more than 7 tracks, but this was all I could find, but the ones here are the good ones anyway. I guess this is what you get when a game is as obscure as this one. :x

The Game - Blood Wake

Link to the playlist -

If you're truly curious, the game was about getting in a boat and fighting tons of other boats in chaotic battles with all sorts of crap flying around - Mines, Lightning Guns, Rockets, Torpedoes, and more! Throw in this rocking soundtrack and you've got probably the best boat combat game I've ever played.

P.S.

I should warn you that these tracks really rock the bass, and you may want to watch your listening volume when enjoying them.

I see that the Undertale OST has already been recommended, so I'm going to recommend it again. Keep in mind though, that the music ingame is subtly different from what you'll find in the OST.

Other than that, I would suggest the OST for Ys Origin:

Both are great games with fantastic soundtracks.

I remember really enjoying a particular song from an internet flash game called "Flight". It's only one track, but it's really good. It's operatic, and sounds more like a song from a movie than a freebie flash game. The composer, David Orr, has some other music that's also pretty good, but this track in particular stood out to me.

Well, I don't know if you'll enjoy it all, but here is the music, both ambient, and combat, even more recent quests from a free to play fps cooperative game called Warframe.

Hey Ross!

So here are a couple of my favorite soundtracks you might be interested in:

Katamari Damacy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAA6hq9RL-4

http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/katamari-damacy-soundtrack-katamari-fortissimo-damacy-

Kind of more well known, but it's one of my favorites.

LISA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xu30tYn0D0

https://widdly2diddly.bandcamp.com/releases

Recent indie turn-based RPG. Mostly it's existence is overshadowed by Undertale. Easily one of my all time favorite vidya OSTs.

MOTHER3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlLo64qvf6M

https://starmen.net/mother3/music/

A classic GBA JRPG. If you can get passed the GBA's shitty sound quality, it's petty good.

Finally, Monster Hunter. MH has hundreds of collective top-tier orchestral songs. It's hard to cherry pick, but I like the live orchestration versions best:

Anyway, have a Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Ross!

I know a couple games with great soundtracks.

One is Unreal Tournament 2004. The sound track to this game is amazing and has a lot of variety.

Unfortunately, there isn't really a place to get the soundtrack other than the game's files.

The second game is UBERMOSH. This game has a stellar high octane soundtrack.

I think it can only be purchased from Steam though.

Here's one of the songs I could find for a preview:

Both the regular soundtrack and the remixed version of crypt of the necrodancer are great. The original being mostly electronic or a weird chip tune blend, then the metal remix by familyjules7x has to be one of my favorite remix's to date.

Crypt of the Necrodancer Steam Page: http://bit.ly/1PtOiGZ

Full OST Here: http://bit.ly/1Gp7fJk

Metal remix Here: http://bit.ly/1PtORjW (Spotify link for quality)

Any of SmoothMcgroove's Acapellas are great IMO. He covers a wide range of games from sonic to mario to final fantasy, all that stuff. A remix album by gamechops was also just released and is great as well.

Hope you like these! Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Ross!

Anyways, one soundtrack I've always liked is the OST to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World videogame. It has that retro game sound to it and it's something I've come to like. Hope ya like it.

Happy Birthday Ross! Aaaaannnddd someone beat me to the Einhander Soundtrack, shucks. Oh well. I recently played Dungeon of the Endless during a free weekend, and was pleasantly surprised by both the gameplay and the music, though most of the soundtrack is probably shared by the other Endless games.

Here, have a look:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAEK68BI3Us

Also, the menu screen for the multiplayer part of Bioshock 2 contains a really cool song, but since the multiplayer in that game is dead almost no one listens to it anymore:

If you haven't played many 4X/turnbased games:

XCOM: Enemy Unknown:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z82dcrSqns

Personal favorite part:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?start=393&v=_z82dcrSqns

You might have already heard about this one, but just in case:

Transistor:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zA1jRmAYfU

Feel free to ignore the ones with vocals if you're not a fan (the description of the youtube video has stars next to all the ones with lyrics), but the rest is good regardless.

Also, Risk of Rain. Good stuff: https://chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/album/risk-of-rain

Favorite bit: https://chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/track/chanson-dautomne

Before I forget:

Happy Birthday!

Some nice relaxed tracks to listen to while you do something.

This is from Myst III Exile , possibly the best adventure game I played. Its impossible almost to get it on stores since they stopped making it and they don't even sell digital copys, but if you are interested I have an ISO file with it which works fine (on windows 7 at least), contact me if you are, and happy birthday!

I have always been fond of these old rock type instrumental tracks from the AIX 2.0 mod for Battlefield 2 (If I remember correctly, it's best enjoyed BF2 only patched up to 1.41), I grabbed the files straight from the game a while back and have just kept them in a folder on my desktop ever since. I think they actually had a thread on the forum about where they shoved all the music in the mod, seems they also said it was composed by a couple members of their mod team just for AIX.

I can't remember when this one was played:

Same for this one:

I might look through the old Mechwarrior Living Legends soundtrack tomorrow if I'm not too lazy.

Ooooohhh, you might also like this, it's from the upcoming total conversion for Skyrim called Enderal (same people that made Nehrim for Oblivion).

Happy Birthday!

Want to share a copy of Wolfenstein New Order with you for your birthday. I uploaded this to Google docs, and hope you enjoy. Not lesser known, but I know you haven't gotten your hands on this, and you are missing out. Really great game and great soundtrack for the Rock-Hearted. You might also enjoy their German version of 60's classics, fun listening to the dystopian versions of those hits.

The soundtrack to Rebel Galaxy has a great collection of songs to make you feel like a space cowboy.

Seriously blowing up a titan class cruiser while listening to this is a great way to cheer anyone up.

Also if you haven't heard it the Total War: Shogun 2 soundtrack is amazing.

Hope you like drums and the flute.

If you want an amazing thumping beat, you can never go wrong with the soundtrack of Payday 2.

Or you could try one of my alltime favorite soundtracks from the game Uplink.

I still program to this, and nothing has quite matched its cyberpunk feel for me yet.
