Birthday thread: Soundtracks

Recommended Posts

Here's a few recommendations for you.

The soundtrack to Kid Icarus: Uprising is amazing. Here, have a taste of what I mean. This is Dark Pit's theme:

QG77HTdreh0

Here's someone's good "metal remix" of it. This music is being sold for 99¢ on Google Play.

94X_wGka1c8

And you can't go wrong with the music from Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm sure you can find ways of previewing it. The nice thing about FMA is that both the instrumental and vocal music tracks are fantastic. I'm speaking for the anime, by the way; I'm not sure how the music is for the various Fullmetal Alchemist games.

Happy Birthday Ross! For your gift, I recommend downloading the Ragnarok Online OST. Ragnarok Online is an MMORPG my friends and I used to play quite a lot. It was a great game, especially when played with friends, but the music really stood out to me as I played it. It's quite large (5 discs) so I'm sure you'll find plenty of tracks you enjoy like I have. Quality is 320kbps.

The soundtrack for Dust: An Elysian Tail is excellent, and Alexander Brandon helped create it!

YouTube playlist:

Each video has links to sites where you can purchase the soundtrack, but I'll go ahead and post them here:

https://loudr.fm/release/dust-an-elysian-tail/RqVDh

There's also the music for Gunpoint, a stealth-action puzzle game on Steam. It has a great jazz and noir-style soundtrack, with a few songs not actually in the game but included on the extended soundtrack.

YouTube playlist:

Happy birthday, Ross!

Happy birthday Ross! Ok, you probably have a lot of recommendations to go through so i'll try to keep this as brief as possible. These games aren't exactly lesser known (to be honest they're pretty mainstream) but whatever, good music is good music.

Halo 3 ODST

https://archive.org/details/Halo3ODSTOSTPlaylist

(To download file, click VBR mp3 files on the right, right click song at choose save file as)

Recommendations:

Rain (deference for darkness)

Still grounded (asphalt and absolution)

Where one road ends (neon night)

Street sweeper (traffic jam at 0:48)

From the ashes (bits and pieces)

Air traffic control (skyline at 4:36)

Cast aside (no stone unturned)

Orbital drop shock trooper (finale at 1:12)

This game may be short (3-6 hours) but the soundtrack is what sold it for me. The composer, Martin O'Donnell, has done an amazing job with the series but this soundtrack in particular stands out as it uses none of the themes from the other games, giving him a lot more freedom. With soft strings, piano and saxophone tunes contrasted by the drums and electric guitar that play during the big battles, this soundtrack keeps me coming back.

Ace Combat X

http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/ace-combat-x-skies-of-deception-psp-

Recommendations:

Prelude, joint operation

Pinned down, in pursuit II

Time limit (this one is kinda spooky)

Gauss tower, wild card

Atmos ring

End of deception

Alect squadron, armada, operation x

Strategic briefing (one of the lost tracks, may not be in list of songs)

Someone has already mentioned the Ace Combat series (would definitely recommend 4,5 and zero), but they missed out this gem. Ace Combat X is a PSP exclusive, so it's likely you probably haven't played it. If you have listened to the other Ace Combat OSTs, this one is a bit more electronic like Ace Combat 3, but still has lots of orchestral parts. Luckily, someone has ripped the sound files from the game, but some of the songs may not be in the link. I've only found them on youtube (called the lost tracks).

Angel Beats

http://anime.thehylia.com/soundtracks/album/angel-beats-original-soundtrack

Theme of SSS

Tactics

Enemy country

Decisive battle

Critical point

This is from an anime, not a game but someone has already suggested anime and I thought what the heck. Listen to this or ignore it, I won't be mad. I promise. Anyway, the soundtrack takes inspiration from RPG music. There is a lot of piano, A LOT, so if you like that you're in luck. I've recommended the few songs i'm sure you'll like, plus decisive battle sounds like a pianist is having a seizure.

Pokemon

Ok, there a lot of pokemon games (and not just the main games), which means there are a lot of songs I could recommend. However, it would be better if I did that in another post when I have time, so stay tuned.

Happy Birthday!

Not so much something you've not heard before, but I do know you like the Strife (the 90s one) soundtrack, and, Xeotroid at the zDooM forums has created a remastered version. I think you were asking after something like this? (also, heretic, hexen, doom and a bunch of other wads)

Thread with MP3, FLAC and .wad (for Doom/GzDooM) downloads: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=48937

Youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCragVFZWbw

In terms of a suggestion, I recently started playing Bethesda's call of Cthulhu game, and I think the soundtrack is pretty neat. You know, in a "ageless starbeasts beyond the capability of human understanding are going to devour your soul" kind of way:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lftou-C1GF0

(the soundtrack is just in the game folder in .ogg format, and it's really cheap on steam right now. You could probably afford it just by selling a bunch of those useless trading cards they give out every year that people weirdly pay actual money to get. I don't understand the whole economy there, I think Valve have a bunch of bot accounts that just buy stuff at randomly predetermined values to make people think that they have some kind of use?)

This music is from Metal Saga. An old jrpg on PS2. I think all the music is great but ill make it quick for everyone.

Tracks you HAVE to listen to (best tracks from the game imo):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06m_BRH516Y -main theme

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTRqzJnK_z8 -plays at most boss battles

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUjDn9ya7hM -last battle music, my personal fav

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3nVD70Ubf8 -close 2nd personal fav

Tracks that are great as well. Listen to the tracks above first to see if your a fan of the games music first.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IBZVRAklCA -has a mysterious feel to it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukiClpoaXsg -when you see an enemy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M39_0W2CZjQ -for a certain boss battle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekp0-ze5Ge4 - different feel, very relaxing

BTW if you watched Ross's game dungeon ep. of Dungeon Siege, and you enjoyed that game then try out Metal Saga. It has that same sense of adventure, so when I heard of Dungeon Siege I had to try it out. Since Metal Saga's old and the developers can't make any money off of this game, for me its ok to pirate and play using a PS2 emulator. Its the kind of game Ross would like (great story, characters and weird), so if anyone else has the same tastes, try it out! Though it is turn based.

For those that are interested, heres a complete playthough of the game in 2 mins. And the game is 50+hours long. No cheats and hacks are used.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF8VefV3DO8

The end tells you all the crazy stuff you could do.

Happy B-Day Ross!

I know it's been suggested a lot already, but I feel the need to, like, tenth Undertale or something. I should also point that Toby Fox, the game dev, actually started out making soundtracks and music, and moved onto doing games from there.

If you want intense, darkly atmospheric ambient synth music, here's Manhunt, an infamous survival horror game made by Rockstar North in 2003. http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/manhunt-ps2-gamerip

I'll only give you the necessary details about the game to understand the tone and atmosphere of the music: it is an incredibly violent and controversial game, as your character is forced by an unknown person speaking to him through an earphone, to engage in numerous executions for his snuff film, using stealth mechanics to sneak up behind a person and kill him... so yeah. Better have a strong stomach for the game.

It's the kind of music for pondering about the very dark side of humanity... it'll really creep you out. This isn't the music for the holidays at all. And one last thing, you'll notice that most of the music slowly becomes more intense... it has different levels to jump to depending on the AI: Idle, Suspicious, and Aware. There's also Scene Completed and Scene Failed, for when you, yes, complete a scene or fail.

So, happy birthday Ross!

The soundtrack for Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is pretty good, though it may not be up your alley in terms of musical tastes, but I'm a huge fan of it. It's pretty upbeat and lighthearted, which suits the game really well. Overall the game was mediocre, but the soundtrack was good: http://croc.wikia.com/wiki/Soundtrack

My favorite is the Title Theme.

Checked through the list and heres a couple soundtracks that I haven't seen listed yet. I ordered them from the ones I like the most to the ones I like the least for you.

Terraria- I have 400 hours in this game and some of the boss battle music still gets me hyped every time I hear it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsSWqVCSaqs

Crysis 2 and Crysis 3- I put these too together, both have some good sci-fi music in them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcvndQIfu0A

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euY2GfVS3BY

Strike Suit Zero- Again more sci-fi music though this soundtrack is more relaxed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TQa2AYadrg

Star Wars Republic Commando- This one I'm not sure if you'll like but I still put it in. Its a mix of star wars music and some deep choir singing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6KIR5gg5L0

Enjoy the music and Happy Birthday!
