  1. Never use integrated video unless you want only to browse the internet!Get a dedicated card if you ever want to be able to play modern games at above 15 FPS on minimum settings.

Ok, ok. Don't give yourself an aneurysm, I was trying to see If I could save a few corners, remember I don't have a lot of time on my hands to play games, so I won't be using this at it's maximum capacity very often. Also, since I live in a far away country, some things are not available here and if they are, they cost a lot more than in the states.

    How about this?

Intel CPU Core i5-2500 3.30 GHz Box (1155)

    M/B Intel P8P67-M B3 A/L (1155)

    Video PCIE GTX460 1024mb DDR5

But is that i5 a dual core or quad core? some mobile i5 as well as desktop versions are only dul core... ussualy the ones with low numbers...

It's a dual core... Mhmm. If you want to see the site I'm looking at, is this one for the notebooks and this one for the desktop components.

Dual with HyperThreading. Perfomance benchmark here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5+450M+%40+2.40GHz

I have an i5-450M in my laptop, it is very capable.

The only part I'd be concerned about is the 14" screen... Awfully small screen there.

I'm not worried about that, I have a semi-new 20" LED monitor laying around. So you think this could be a good choice or would you go with the desktop? By the way, I found this one, it looks better than the last one

Notebook HP Mod ENVY 14-1195LA SKU 31221

    Windows® 7 Home Premium Original 64 bits

    Intel® Core™ i5-460M 2.53 GHz, Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650, 1024 MB DDR3 up to 2714 MB total

    14.5" LED HD DE (1366 x 768) BrightView

    Ram 4GB DDR3

HD 500 GB Sata (7200 RPM)

  2. Thanks for the list, I have one question. What do you think of using the CPU + Motherboard native video capabilities on this combination?

Intel CPU Core i5-2500 3.30 GHz Box (1155)

    Asus M/B Intel P8H67-M LX B3 A/L/V (1155)

I read some reviews that said the performance was very impressive, with no extra video card cost.

  3. I think as a couple you should both plan your expenses and weigh them up against your income.
And that is what we do. But she would rather buy clothes

Ok, let's get down to business. As a long time laptop user, I'm not sure if I would like a desktop anymore. What do you think of these (I'll post the relevant features, not the DVD burner or whatever)

All of these are within my budget and the prices are the final value I'd have to pay (after taxes and using some promotional discount points I have on my credit card).

Also, If you think you can suggest a desktop setup for this amount, please do so (leave out monitor, keyboard, and any peripherals).

  4. Well, I finally got permission from my girlfriend to buy a new machine* . I still don't know if I'll go for a retail laptop or I'll put together a nice gaming desktop (I really don't have a lot of free time on my hands these days), but either way I'll post some questions here later to get your opinion on potential components.

*If you have a gf, you know you require this before every mayor purchase, so don't go around calling me whipped... because I know I am

  5. Theres no other Civil Protection based machinimas out there, other than Combine Nation, that measure up to Ross Scotts work with CP.

If you like a continuous story, you should keep an eye out for "Shelf life". They've only gotten around to releasing the first episode, but the project is not dead and their work is really impressive.

  6. Im currently reading World War Z for the first time. Im sad I hadn't found it sooner.

We'll meet at the Hero City then. Bring your Lobo.

I also only get to read it when I donate plasma.

I told you not to hang out with vampires, they never do anything for free.

  7. Here's a picture of me.. and a local policeman.

Whoa. You've got some big hair man You remind me a bit of Gene Simmons and Slash. I foresee hot women in your future. Awesome.

Also, if you see happen to see Darth Vader around, please tell him from me that the final "Nooooooooooo" in episode 3 made him look like a wuss

  8. like

Like not telling you before he does it...

Unless he does this on a different date, I really don't see how people could take anything released on the 1st of April seriously.

Then again, the youtube comments seem to contradict my previous statement.

    I don't know anymore... I'm sleepy.

  9. I finished reading that "Torment" book, second in the "Fallen"... eh... "saga". It was not very good. I don't think I'll buy the third when it comes out. Well, that's a lie, I'll buy it, but only because I hate leaving a series incomplete.

  10. Mhmm. A flame war about capitalism in a youtube ads discussion. That could be categorized as, for lack of a better word, art.

Add my friend Archer to the equation and this would become a very busy thread
