you select the entire image, then right click, go to layer, then transparency, and finally click on Add Alpha channel. then you can erase parts of the image. Example: [attachment=0]isaiah_mustafa_200923.png[/attachment] Btw, make sure to save it as a PNG for best effect. Banned for the tutorial.

Banned because an Alpha Channel is a layer that you use in Gimp to make the image transparent. i thought you use gimp to edit your Avatars. my mistake.
