But I'm sure all both of them missed you.

Just saw this on Black Mesa's facebook page

-
It would mostly just be for shits and giggles if I do make it. And it's not like anyone would have to participate. Or tell the truth. It's not like I'm gonna hunt you down and look down your pants to see if you're lying.
-
I asked if you are a male or a female (or a third variant), not if you have a penis or a vagina (or a pegina or nothing).
We can start a different thread for that

"That cat isn't secretly a gun, Freeman, you're just being paranoid."
-
What would Freemans reaction to the pony tail line be?
Either:
"It was a bar bet! Barney owes me a beer now. And while I guess that technically makes me a sellout, you don't have to be a jackass about it."
or
"Hey, you shaved the mowhawk! Fucking hypocrite."

Although falling and dying whilst trying to foolishly hop across dangling crates seems like a more realistic thing for a scientist to do than killing hordes of hostile aliens and trained marines.
-
Ross also said that he would continue FM as long as there was fan support for it.

I fucking love this song.
Fixed.

I like the next level up, curve jumping, so much more fun.
I rather enjoy Fibonacci-spiral-jumping. But only a training-course master can perform that.
-
Crouch jumping is one of the few things I dislike about Half-Life and Black Mesa strongly. It feels awkward, overused and just outright unnecessary.
But the overall game is too good to really feel like it ruins anything.
Crouch-jumping feels much more natural on a game controller to me. In fact, the platforming in general seems to be a lot better with a controller IMO.
But you're right, even when I was doing the crouch jumping on the awkward keyboard, the game was still too damn cool for it to really ruin anything.
-
Just got an adapter today so I can use my PS1 controller with my PC. Been testing it out with Black Mesa and I must say, it makes the abundant crouch-jumping much easier. L2+X+Left Stick is much easier for me than Ctrl+Space+W. I'll have to play around with the sensitivity some more to get the aiming better, though.

I myself wouldn't want to attempt anything as sophisticated as Left 4 dead 2 and I doubt anyone else would either. Something similar to the G-mod script seems like a more viable option, if anyone smarter than me can figure out how to implement it.
But in the Black Mesa wiki page about their gib system they said it was like in TF2. If this is the case, it might be easier to do decapitations, which they had in TF2. The TF2 decapitations shrink the head of the model and spawn a head-gib. I think since in BM it would be unnecessary to have a head-gib model since it would be from guns and lasers and not a sword, but it would probably look better to have a neck wound rather than just a pinched-off spot where it gets shrunken. The modeling for this would be easy enough if I could import and export them to and from 3ds MAX. I could definitely do the models for the headless bodies, but IDK if I'd fuck up the textures doing that and I certainly don't know how to get that to work in BM.
But that at least seems a little more doable (but you can correct me if i'm wrong)
-
I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying it'd probably be very hard to pull off correctly.
That's what I figured

Since you mention L4D, I wonder if there's some way to re-purpose that code? Probably not, but it's a thought. I'm sure there's way more to finding it and then implementing it in BM than I realize.
Or maybe bring the scientist charachter/gib models in to L4D2 to replace the common infected?

In Black Mesa, the gibbing is pretty much like how it is the original HL or in TF2: Either there's no dismemberment or the body is ripped to shreds. I was wondering if it would be possible to modify the mod to have more localized dismemberment so a magnum shot, really close (like, point-blank) shotgun blast, or charged Tau Cannon shot. etc. could shoot off individual limbs. I know there's hit-detection for limbs and the gib-models are already there, so it's a matter of the coding. Now, I should point out that I have zero clue how this would work. Maybe it's fairly simple, maybe it's ludicrously difficult, or maybe it's not even possible.
I'm not looking for arguments as to why dismemberment like this would "ruin the game" or crap like that or how it's "unrealistic" Frankly, I think the localized dismemberment would be MORE realistic, but honestly, I just want it for shits and giggles.
Hell, if someone gives me a good place to start, I might try making this myself. (But don't count on it; see the "I have zero clue how this would work" note above)

The achievements are nice additions, but sometimes not clear about what you're supposed to do. For example, why is there an achievement for killing enemies with reprogrammed sentries? How do you reprogram sentries? All they do is shoot you until you kill them, and they don't start working again if you set them back up. There's no computers or switches nearby either. Is that just something they had an idea for, but later scrapped (while leaving the code for the achievement in) or am I missing something?
I figured out that you need to pick them up and walk with them and they'll shoot enemies in front of you. They have a screen on the back and green is hostile blue is reprogrammed (to shoot everything, including you) and red is completely non-functional.

It always bugged me when people write "mike" as the short form of "microphone". I get that it's pronounced "mike" but IMO it should be written as "mic". Not trying to nag anybody, but it bothers me... like, more than it should....

Nose fetish? well, that's a new one. I'm 20, and I've yet to hear about someone with a nose fetish.
You don't watch enough Futurama.

Sure, you COULD try harder to direct the more ignorant of the YouTubers here, that they may be enlightened, but honestly if they can't figure out how to find the site themselves, do we really want them here? Best to ignore them really.
P.S. That video was fucking hilarious! I want be rich enough to hire him to comment on all the YouTube comments as I read them.

It's plausible they are scattered around the offices like fire extinguishers are(after all, much of the prospect seems to be underground). And the scientists went to get them when the lights went out after the Cascade.
Anyhow I thought it was pretty neat to include that mechanic since I don't think it was used a whole lot in HL2 and the episodes.
That makes sense. Also, if anyone wants to make a Black Mesa Mod mod, I want a flare-gun, just for shits and giggles.

While Black Mesa as a whole would not be good for Freeman's Mind, there are a few moments in the mod that i'd like to see Freeman's reaction to.
-
It seemed like the best thing to do before the crowbar is to burn everything with flares. Which raises the question as to why every single scientist seems to have several flares on their desks. Maybe G-man put them there.
-
Tripmines are useless. Really, they are. I try to use them. I've done everything I can think of. But since soldiers are somehow aware that it's there, even if it's immediately around a 90 degree turn in a corridor, they never run into it. I suppose you could use a tripmine to 'lock down' an area, since a soldier wouldn't run through it, but generally I never found that necessary since I don't often end up getting flanked. I haven't tried using them on aliens yet, but that would be kind of wasteful since they're easier to kill than soldiers.
The only use I've ever had for trip-mines in HL1 or Black Mesa is to spawn them in the first chapter and plant one where the scientist who's "expecting an important message" goes when you mess with that computer in the corner.

I am absolutely blown away by the quality of the Black Mesa mod. It would not work out if Ross decided to switch over, but I think it would be cool if Ross did one 30-second or so video of Freeman's Mind when he puts on the Alien hivehand weapon at the end of the tripmine maze. The hand movements in the mod of Freeman sticking his hand into the creature for the first time would be great with Scott's commentary!
I think he should make a trailer for "Freeman's Mind: Black Mesa" and pick the moments from Black Mesa with the most comedic potential. That way, we can get kind of a glimpse of what FM:BM would've been like without Ross redoing the whole series (because I think we can all agree that redoing the series would be a waste of time).
And the Hivehand animation certainly has comedic potential.
