  1. Hello, folks!

As some of you folks know, I do the English language subtitling here at Accursed Farms.

It's tedious work, but I enjoy it, so I had this radical idea about possibly turning this into a paid gig; getting paid to subtitle people's videos, which includes transcribing and timing. It would be freelance work where I would take a video and charge perhaps by the minute of video; I wouldn't want to be actually hired by a captioning company (at least, not yet). Perhaps I could listen to a sample of the video that someone wants to have captions written for and I could contact that person to negotiate terms.

Just wanted to ask you guys what you think of me doing something like this? Was wondering if you had any pointers or ideas about what to charge (a website I found said US$12 per minute of video for transcribing but I'm not sure if that's the going rate or what) or if you had a website that I could look at for more information.

    Whaddya think?

  2. Do you know who this is?

    Answer in the spoiler:

Lucinda Dryzek, best known as young Elizabeth Swann from the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

    Now, don't you feel old?

  3. I will be collecting the subtitles (thanks for what you've sent me so far!) and checking them against the videos I've downloaded for timing. Of course, I cannot understand languages other than English. Languages that are somewhat similar to English (French, Spanish, German, etc) are a bit easier to at least make some sort of sense out of so for languages like Turkish, I'm going to have to make my best judgment in relation to where specific sentences end. I will assume that, if the breaks in the speaking match with the breaks in the subtitles, they are timed correctly. I will not be able to check for things such as typos or grammatical errors.

After I check the subtitles' timing, I will compile them into one ZIP file and send them off to Ross for adding to the videos. I should be able to get to the subtitle files I have received from you, Judas, as well as the other subtitles I received soon. Please continue to send me whatever subtitles you have.

  4. Danielsangeo, As always, I hope you will do your excellent subtitles for that excellent episode!)

I'm working on them. I have this episode all typed up; I just have to sync them now with the video and make sure they're all prettied up for the release.

Please note: I am starting the next 12-week course at my online school starting, well, tonight actually, and if any more videos come out during this timespan, subtitles may be delayed, but don't worry, I will work on them as soon as I can get to them. I may also be going back to work very soon so that might further delay subtitles. Please have patience.

Also, further note: I will be releasing a subtitle pack for the rest of the Accursed Farms videos (including the Civil Protection episodes) today... probably after I finish with this episode. :)
