  1. The thing about Shadowrun mages being able to hit anything they can see is it's literally "Are photons from the target reaching your eyes enough that you can make out their image?"

Telescopes, mirrors, and fiber optics all count. Mirror on a stick was very useful. The only reason they can't hit the moon is there's no mana in space. Their main disadvantage is that casting any spell requires resisting stun or even physical damage.

I think you might have the wrong thread... That said, I'm also a Shadowrunner. :ugeek:

  2. The main problem is most searches one might do in order to find a utility to open a rar will bring one to adware laden software.

First and second results are the main sites for WinRAR and 7zip, both are the two most used 3rd party file compression format utilities. No adware in either of them, and they loathe it as much as I myself do.

  3. I actually thought of a way he could easily transfer to CM in the series... When he blacks out from the Combine kicking his unarmed ass, he could wake up without his glasses. All Ross needs to do is add a blur filter over the video while searching, then find them and put a grime filter instead of a blur, and have him take them off again to clean them, and when he puts them back on he'll be in the CM. He could comment on how much he didn't realize how much his glasses needed cleaning after all that alien blood and various other fluids he had to deal with in FM1.

  4. The bad: In order to get anywhere near a Half-Life-atmosphere experience, you need to scour the configurator and turn off all the titty models, tweak the shader and lighting options to be absolutely just right so that the bloom isn't blinding, and there's no way to get rid of the explicit graffiti or nude magazines without getting an external texture replacer to make them blank, and when you do that, 90% of the walls look incredibly blank and barren, which makes it very easy to notice reused textures, as well as making the landscape just plain boring.

    1. There is a second configurator for this mod, and it allows the quick and easy selection of models to be used. (HD, HD CM models, or vanilla)

    2. The shader and lighting enhancements are a quick switch on the single page of the configurator. No trial and error, or customizing required.

    3. The 'explicit graffiti' you're talking about is entirely additional, so without it the game is just as 'empty' as the original. (thus negating the emptiness and boring parts of your argument)

    4. Those 'reused textures' are already present in the vanilla game, and are no more or less apparent in CM13 if the 'offensive' graffiti is removed.

I'm not saying you have to like CM13, but please don't post misinformation.

  5. Cinematic Mod just makes it look like a generic Anime-influenced Sci-Fi game with overdone colour-correction and visual clutter.

Only if you enable those options in the configurator... It has the ability of just improving the textures, no models or anything else altered. (though the modifications that allow for fewer loading screens are mandatory)

Why do people seem to always assume that there is only one configuration ever available for mods?

  6. If he uses the semi-HD vanilla-style character textures from CM4, and the textures/static models/map updates from CM13, he should be able to make it look like a super-high-rez and more stable version of the original. (and none of the character models that even FF admits doesn't fit too well with the existing characters in the game)

  7. The Cinematic Mod is terrible, though. I'm all for Ross taking steps to make the show prettier, but the Cinematic Mod is just unimaginably bad. It'd be worse than switching to Black Mesa would have been, and that would have been the wrong choice by a long shot.

Please elaborate... Hyperbole and vague descriptions of being "bad" doesn't really help much.

  8. I really like the Cinematic Mod, and FM2 could be enough to get FF to make the HD versions of the vanilla characters... That said, I doubt even an overwhelming number of votes for the CM would be enough for Ross to use it now. (unless he switches right after getting knocked out again, and puts the changes down to brain damage or broken glasses or something)

  9. I noticed a few things that might indicate that you aren't very experienced in the use of the English language... A few fairly glaring typos, ("Captain. I could try taking to it." as opposed to "Captain, I could try talking to it.") and the whole "it's not the present but the thought that counts" thing. (you don't need the "not the present but" part of that)

The idea itself seems pretty neat though... A British version of Ross's Gordon Freeman inside the Warcraft universe.

  10. I'm a huge proponent of piracy, the kind that shares stuff for free... When other people take stuff that's already shared for free, (like everything Ross makes) and try to sell it, that is where I consider it to be bad. (if they make dubbed copies, and either give it free or donate a reasonable portion back to the original author, that is not the same as stealing IMO) If someone then tries to claim that the original author is the one stealing the content, that's when I get truly pissed. These assholes deserve everything negative they get from this dick move of theirs.

Ross, it's good to make claims against people stealing your content, don't ever feel bad about it. - With respect, a true pirate.
