  1. Genghis Khan is of significant interest to me... Especially his governing system.

The first religiously tolerant (to some extent this was violated in regards to Jews and Muslims after conquering their countries) 'meritocracy'. It wasn't a true meritocracy, (himself and his family were notable exceptions) but it was close.

  2. Also, why do the shower heads only spray out like... an absolutely tiny cone of water? If I want a shower, I want to be absolutely rained on. I want it to feel like a damn just broke inside my wall.

Because of international (read USA) regulations on water consumption for shower heads. (currently regulated to a maximum of 2.5 gallons per minute, 9.5 LPM, down from the pre-1994 rates of 5.5 GPM)

  3. Books are like movies that play right in my head - only much better than any movie.

I suppose one needs enough imagination and real life references to fully enjoy reading, but when you get there - it's the best entertainment there is.

    +1

And then, of course, factual and documentary and history works... about things that might be of interest to me. Mmmm... books :D

Give "Kon Tiki" a read... Comes across as fiction in the way it's written, but is an actual documentation of historical events. (including the discovery of a new species of fish when they were just trying to survive a raft ride from South America to south-east Asia in the 1950's) Just read anything by Thor Heyerdahl for that matter.

Also Clive Cussler has a rather decent list of non-fiction. Nautical related, but very good. (I recommend his books in general anyways)

My favorite Science Fiction titles have to by Ben Bova. (just feels like the right combination of science, and future)

[EDIT] Removed the -1 because clarification of the comment made it go away.

  4. I dunno if I slept on my hand funny or what, but right now I can't rotate my wrist without it locking up, hurting like hell, and then my fingers going cold.

Use your other hand to pull out on your wrist while relaxing the hurt arm's muscles, and then gradually turn it with the hand you're using to pull the injured hand. You should get a few pops or cracks, and a small amount of pain, but it should result in a much less painful normal operation of the limb.

  5. ...our kind of sentience is inherent to us and only us.

I think this is the least probable scenario.

Who are we? - just an improvement on all the gradually developing intelligencies in the tree of life... from worms to fish to snakes to cats to us. What grounds are there to even think that our intelligence may be anything but an upgraded version of that of a tiger or a chimpanzee?

Also, nature does not like jumps and unique things - it takes Mark I analogue brain and just adds to it incrementally...

    Regards

Evolution is still just a theory, and as such has never been properly proven. Some people claim "it's as close as it gets", well guess what, it's not close enough to go around quoting it as fact.

The real facts in this area are: WE HAVE NO F****** CLUE!!!

  6. @Binky: :D Looking smart!

    @DeWolfy: ^_^ I like the guitar.

I got bored before classes started so I cleaned the whiteboard (painfully) with a whiteboard marker and eraser thingy - cause it was so messy that only a whiteboard marker over it would allow it all to rub off. But I wanted to show people how clean it was so I left a "box of mess" for people to compare to. XP

A quick spritz of alcohol cleans up whiteboards like crazy.

  7. Star Trek Online.

[EDIT] Actually, I kinda zoned on this... I've been 'playing' a bunch of DOS games to get their DOSbox settings right. It really helps me to have the D-Fend Reloaded UI for it, thanks go to Ross for introducing me to something that makes DOS emulation a LOT simpler.
