  1. oh and i'd like to point out that during this thread hiatus, Red vs Blue became longest running american sci-fi show across all means of distribution and 2nd longest running sci-fi overall

Disclaimer: None of this means it was the best, most popular, or had the most episodes, just that someone managed to keep making it for that long. (and since it requires almost no money to make, it reduces the significance of the achievement greatly)

  2. For the most part, I agree... But if you don't have access to either of those, a VM beats not being able to play the game at all.

Also, I believe you're talking about the Glide API when you mention 3DFX? If so, you can actually use modern cards with a Glide wrapper to play Glide-capable games. http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide is one that I have used in the past, I think... It's been a while...

Here's a decent list of Glide wrappers: http://www.sierrahelp.com/Utilities/DisplayUtilities/GlideWrappers.html

  3. How do you know he had more education than me? Education isn't something that you have to go to a school to get. You don't even have to read, watch, or listen to anything to gain an education. Education isn't time-bound either.

As for STEM schools, they still cater to those that have a standard learning style... (and lots of money, or a willingness to go into debt for years) I don't. I don't learn very much by reading an expensive textbook and sitting through boring hours-long lectures covering knowledge that is easily found in a, totally free, 5 second Google search.

I am one of those people that can go through and learn 4 years worth of math and science in a few months, but can't seem to successfully complete an essay for English Comp 101 in under a millennium. (this effectively makes it impossible to get a degree in virtually anything with the modern school system)

  4. Fallout 4 ^_^

    Me as well.

I really hope resources renew at lootable places else I fear there may not be enough supplies for my Sanctuary plans.

They do. Give it some time and they should respawn.

I believe for plants it's once every 2 in-game days. I'm not sure if it's a mod that's causing it, but loot containers and enemy spawns take around an in-game week to regenerate.

  5. I've never even heard of it before... That it's a Gamecube exclusive is reason enough for that...

I think the main reason for the game choice by your friend is

it has essentially the exact same sanity system you intend to include in your Fallout 4 mod.

(this is an extremely minor spoiler, so it's up to you, but I seriously doubt it will harm your gameplay experience)

  6. A few things that make this painful to watch...

    1. Twitch movements are never comfortable to watch... Smoother and slower is a lot more comfortable, and a ton more realistic feeling. (who snaps their entire body around several times per minute IRL?)

    2. Most of the time you don't check your corners. (this is probably due to you playing this previously, and at least partially memorizing the spawn and loot locations, but it's still annoying)

    3. You passed up an easy to get health booster near the beginning of video 2. (people that skip loot for no good reason pisses off my OCD, part of why I never watch speedruns of Bethesda games and almost any non-'rail-shooter')

    4. Frequently cycling your weapons is annoying. (it just is, as is turning your flashlight on and off in a well lit area)

Just some observations of some flaws that you might be able to correct in future videos. It's good that it's available at 720p60, I wish more people would record at 60Hz.

  7. Of course I'm not going to spend $120k minimum for at least 8 years of college, just to learn something I already know from people who don't know as much about it as I do. (or flat out think it's impossible to do what I've already done) Formal research training was never something Tesla had... Didn't stop him from making large-scale functional wireless energy almost a reality nearly a century before we started using it on a small scale for battery charging.

And you know that those "perpetual energy" systems are all just modified clones of existing systems proven to not work... Not anything even close to practical zero-point/vacuum energy generation that almost nobody is working on. (for one thing, nobody in their right mind would ever claim vacuum energy to be an unlimited source, but it would appear that way to the uneducated)

  8. You never know, I may just get my hands dirty and try some modeling with this game... I'm not very experienced, but I have this design that's been in my head for about a decade now, but never actually made. (it's a .308 battle rifle, looks near-futuristic if I had to describe it, scope/s included)

  9. Tribes, Tribes 2, and tribes Vengeance. Granted my focus is on Tribes 2 since that's what i'm familiar with, but all of these are Online Shooters that take a bit to learn how to use, so I dunno what your interest level will be.

The reason being twofold. One: Hi-Rez (the current copyright owners) literally just went 'here are ISO's, Go Nuts. I mean they still clearly own the rights and likely want to generate interest for an upcoming game, but the point is they went and gave things away. Two, and this is the MORE IMPORTANT POINT, The fanbases have managed to revive downed master servers to make a franchise that is basically online only about as ragnarok proof as possible until you literally can't run the program or emulate windows to run it or whatever. Tribes 1 got an attempted re-release with newer drivers but got abandoned (but a copy got leaked), tribes 2 got a fan patch to get a new server up, and vengeance got hacked around with the revengeance version...

The point is these are games that the fans saved the franchise. Even if the numbers aren't there. It's still THERE and playable.

Plus the lore for the franchise, especially since effectively NONE of it shows up in game, is absolutely insane.

Tribes series is essentially the aftermath of the Earthsiege/Cyberstorm series... Same universe, different eras. I personally prefer the Earthsiege series, and wish they would make a new version of it. (Cyberstorm as well)

  10. But you do need to have some sort of endgame... Giving no form of ending is like putting someone in a sandbox with ants, they soon want to get out. Just a little something, not ending the play, but acknowledging what they have done in the world. Could even be as simple as a dialog box after a certain amount of in-game time summarizing their choice and relationship statuses... (possibly even having that be a recurring thing, with certain minor perks/rewards based on the results)
