  1. Most "flak jackets" you see in stores are just mislabeled plate carriers, they don't actually have any armor in them. The ones that are legit armor, still wouldn't be very good for melee protection.

True flak jackets are designed to protect from the shrapnel emitted from exploding flak rounds, (usually not aerodynamic, moving at around 3000fps, and extremely low mass) and nothing else. They have trouble protecting against bullets, (it'd be good against .22cal rimfire, but that's about it) blunt-force, (fists, clubs, etc.) and knives. (or anything really sharp with a lot of mass/force)

  2. The closest you get to a HUD is a brief display of the one item you may be carrying when you hit Tab.

Can't even use both hands, or any pockets... Just 1 item... You're giving me so many reasons to never try this game.

OT: Wasteland 2: Director's Cut. Very fun, and editing the save game (it's in a plain-text file, and designed for easy editing) to give yourself top-of-the-line weapons (tier 6) at the beginning of the game is remarkably fun... I'm going to restart, and do a single character playthrough. (should be interesting running around with a G41, assault scope, laser sight, sound suppressor, and an RPG at level 1)

  3. I personally think they should have an option of which breed of dog for companion... Different breeds with different effects. (like a Rottweiler having a slightly better attack, or an Australian Shepherd giving a charisma boost, etc.)

And that is what mods are for.

Mods are wonderful, aren't they... It's sad more companies don't make mods a high priority for their singleplayer games.

  4. Right now the most requests are probably for Fallout, Nox, VTM Bloodlines, or The Neverhood.

Too bad they aren't asking for Wasteland 1, the one that started the Fallout series. (same creator, and he just couldn't get the IP back from EA to be able to do Wasteland 2 instead of Fallout)

  5. Considering I don't know what a 'name day' is, I'll go with birthday.

Editing a post afterwards to fix a problem only to have it end up worse, or accidentally deleting the post entirely?

  6. Pretty sure my staffing agency is just too fucking stupid to realize the "SE" in my address that I double underlined every single time I wrote it in their paperwork might be important to include when they mail me my check.

So call them and complain... Start by saying in a calm and collected, not angry, tone that you need to have a paycheck to get to work, then ask if there's any other way you can get your check. After that, if there is no movement, ask for their supervisor, and do the exact same thing as you did with the first person. If nothing happens in a couple days, call again and be forceful, but not violent, don't yell, stern tone. Say you NEED that check so you can get to work. If nothing is going to happen, then say very plainly, not angrily, that you are going to look into legal counsel concerning the theft of your paycheck. If nothing happens, do actually seek legal counsel. (the shady looking TV lawyers are usually decent about getting you paid)

  7. You should see me down a Ghost Pepper... Increased tear production for the first one, but after a minute or so, it settles to a normal level and I can eat them like crazy.

I hope you don't do that often. Those things do hell on your stomach lining. Increases chance of ulcers. Though I have heard that peppers weirdly decrease chance of gastric cancer.

    Everything in moderation I guess.

On most people, yes it does damage tissues, however I am one of the few that doesn't have that problem. Now a Reaper pepper is a completely different story... That literally causes caustic burns to anyone if you don't cut it with something else.

  8. Well if I had 50 grand id spend that on the EOD Suit or something close to it, I just want to defend myself from someone decides to punch me hard enough so they smash all their bones in their hand

Then you wouldn't want an EOD suit... If you're looking for something that'll break bones, and most knives, look no further than mild steel plate! It's cheap, easy to mold, and totally impenetrable to unarmed combatants. (it's also lighter than an EOD suit by about 20%)

Full armor of ¼" mild steel, added outer side hardening with custom welding, (making it even harder to damage) molded to fit your body, would weigh in around 400lbs and cost about $800. (it would also be the equivalent of a suit of plate armor, only stronger and heavier)

If you want to go even lighter, and just block unarmed, and some knives... Light stainless steel. ⅛" would be the sweet spot, and it'll only weigh around 200lbs. Can even laminate it with light leather to make it less obvious you're wearing armor. It'll cost you about double the mild steel price though.
