  1. 1823 - The congress of Central America declares absolute independence from Spain, Mexico, and any other foreign nation, including North America, and a Republican system of government is established.

Joseph Smith, Jr. claimed in 1838 that on this day he had first come to the place where the Golden plates were stored, having been directed there by God through an angel.

According to tradition, William Webb Ellis invents the sport of Rugby football at Rugby School in England.

James Monroe first introduces the Monroe Doctrine in the State of the Union Address, declaring that any European attempts to recolonize the Americas would be considered a hostile act towards the United States.

Olbers' paradox is described by the German astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers. (though there is a good comeback to the argument... God created everything, but the light just hasn't had enough time to reach us yet)

  2. Nothing of import to 99.9% of the rest of the world.

Of course Americans like to focus on celebreties and their own politics, not giving a single damn about what matters. Maybe, if it happened to them, they wouldn't act so naive.

I don't recall saying "Americans" anywhere... I was stating a fact, nothing more or less. The fact that a civil war is a terrible thing doesn't matter to the vast majority of the world at large since almost nobody outside of the country is affected directly. I feel it unfortunate that they are on the verge of civil war, but that is the extent of my caring unless they find a way to involve/affect me in some way. (no matter how insignificant)

  3. 1821 - The United States takes possession of its newly bought territory of Florida from Spain.

Mexico gains its independence from Spain following the Mexican War of Independence.

Panama declares independence from Spain, joining Gran Colombia.

The Dominican Republic declares independence from Spain.

The Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland begins to erupt.

  4. Vehicles:

    1. 1982 Dodge Caravelle... Needs 2 motor mounts replaced, the third one was already welded back together... Also, just today started having a very quiet knocking/clicking sound coming from the engine when it's idling.

    2. 1996 Nissan Altima. (just had the transmission refurbished about 4 months ago)

    3. 1986 Ford F-350 crew cab. (manual tranny) Had a second carburetor fire a few years ago, but we just haven't gotten around to getting a new carb, or the other meltable things on the top of the engine. I have an agreement with my parents that if I pay for the repairs, I get the truck. (I really need a job)

    'Smart' car: Will never get.

Subaru cars: Likely never get. (simply because of their price, and lack of 2WD only)

Chevy cars: Will need to improve significantly before I get.

Ford: Any time, any where, any model. (except lemons, or some mid-80s to early 2000s)

    BMW: Sure.

VW: Only if it's pre-'fuel injection'.

Volvo: If it has a sun/moon roof.

Toyota: If they were cheaper. (or if it's from the 80s)

Hyundai: Cars are good, and inexpensive. I'd get one, but only new.

Honda: No thanks. There are better for less.

Any American car from the 60s or 70s: BRING IT ON!!!

    Electric cars: Only from Tesla.

Hybrid cars: Only if they do 0-60 in less than 10 seconds.

Small cars: Only if they're as big/bigger than a 1996 Ford Contour.

    Compact cars: No.

Pick-up: Smaller than a truck, but good for getting around town.

Truck: Good when they're built for work instead of luxury.

    Lincoln: Good luxury cars.

That pretty much sums up my opinions on the subject.
