  1. We have such a stupid ass Superintendent here in good old Idaho. The jackass wanted to fire a bunch of teachers so he buy us all laptops so that we could then take all our classes online. For one, the laptops would have been the 100 dollar variety and would have struggled just to run W98. Two, what college would want to take students who took their education over the internet and probably cheated on half of the assignments. Three, the cost of buying a laptop and maintaining the upkeep (computer problems, viruses, hardware breaking) would highly out way simply paying teachers. It wasn't until I read on this guys history that really got me worried. Our district elected a guy who took his classes online. On the bright side, some hero vandalized his car. Way to go free speech, and other illegal activities!

If it CAN'T run Win 7 x64, then it isn't worth buying. Ever.

Cheating on online courses isn't as easy as you think, and usually it isn't really even cheating... (I have online math classes for my Community College)

  2. Strange actually that although humans are (supposed to be) the most intelligent animals, they still believe in religion.

    I mean think about it...

How big of an ego do we have to believe that:

There is a supreme being out there that created heaven and earth, the entire cosmos just for us

    http://uploads.ungrounded.net/525000/525347_scale_of_universe_ng.swf

That everything on this earth is there just for us, plants, trees, animals...

    ALL For Us !!!

This is usually taken as an insult to all religions.

Insults are based on perception... More often than not, what is taken as an insult isn't meant as one until some idiot takes offense.

  3. when i wrote that i was with my phone

    Ok, understandable then.

Please don't take this as an insult, but could you please edit them when you get on with a computer to not use numbers instead of words, it gives me headaches just seeing them. (this is due to growing up with an English teacher as the family's best friend)

  4. 2day was one of the funniest days ever. my whole class went 2 the computer lab 2 make some research, so this 1 guy started makin that beep noise the pc does when u hold all keys at = time... then everybody did it and the teacher raged... she started yelling at us and almost cries.... then she made us turn off the PCs... thankfully 1 min after was break time...

Are you using a phone to post this? If not, please take the extra few milliseconds to type "to" and "one"...

  5. There is no need to ban if we can prevent them from registering, which is exactly what the Q&A plugin is good at.

IP bans can potentially ban legit users as well so we should avoid that at all costs.

Do you know what the likelihood of banning a legit user is when IP banning? Less than 0.0001% decreasing exponentially based on your userbase... You aren't banning a range of IPs, just a specific one, which at most will ban a household. (unless it's a proxy IP, in which case they should be banned anyways)

  6. Deus Ex was great and even though the cheesy dialogue ruined some parts of it, I loved the deep storyline and the intense attention to detail.

It's impossible for me to name my favourite game. I've played so many games that have made me addicted to them that I just cannot name one. I consider it much easier to just make a list of my favourite games. My favourite game often depends on my mood and stuff.

    Same.

My current: HL2: Cinematic Mod w/ Adult Pimper.

  7. If any of you see a spam bot post, please report it by clicking the little ! button on the post. It points it out to us staff.

    Been doing that...

Are they all on different IPs? If they aren't, you should be able to IP ban the asswipe. (it's the same bot, just an FYI)

  8. Post your favorites here...

    Mine:

    Robert Heinlein

    Ben Bova

    Isaac Asimov

    Jules Verne

    Marion Zimmer Bradley

And there are more, but it's 3AM, so I'm too tired to remember my list...

    • Definition of Science Fiction: Literary fantasy involving the imagined impact of science on society.

  9. Okay, here's an old one: I'm in college, over at my best friend's trailer (she lived off campus) with a few other friends, getting ready to play D&D.

Suddenly, there's a flash and a HUGE explosion outside. We all rush out of the trailer, and we're suddenly dressed as Next Gen. Starfleet officers. A half dozen Romulan Warbirds are coming in low over the countryside, strafing the houses and trailers.

Everybody but me draws their hand phasers and starts shooting at the Romulan troops who are now being beamed down.

Me, I pull this BFG-looking thing out of nowhere (maybe out of the same place where Highlander stores his sword), and start shooting at the Warbirds. I hit one, and it starts to crash. I fire again, before I wake up.

Curiously, the entire time this is going on, "Renegade" by Styx is playing as background music. "The jig is up, the news is out, they finally found me..."

Now that is an epic dream...

  10. It would probably have been a good idea to make that more clear in your topic description. A lot of people can misinterpret it.

Eh... They can read the rest of the thread, and find the clarifications, if they like reading enough to make that big of a deal...

  11. Today was boring... Got another 98% on a bend test in welding... 2% off for measurements being slightly off again...

I need something that either stimulates me, or relaxes me... Something enjoyable, like going to war, and having people shoot at me while I shoot at them... Mmmmm, relaxing...

  12. Mine would have to be one of the last days of 9th grade... (Charter School down in central Phoenix)

Had 3 different people from 3 different gangs come up to me between different classes, and tell me they were quiting their gangs because of me... (I had met only one of them previously, and I never join gangs)

This was just a week after I got in a fight with a kid that was in one of the worst gangs in the neighborhood, at the bus stop, with 100+ kids watching... I won without having to touch the moron... I got a bloody lip, he got expelled and 6 more months in Juvie... (Last I heard he had some issues inside that made him turn 18 inside, so he graduated from tough gang member to someone's young plaything when he was transfered to a regular prison)

  13. I did not see this, thank you. However, it still doesn't meet the requirements though...

And why wouldn't you include books? The topic is "What kind of Sci-Fi Fan are you?" and books are certainly a type of sci-fi, just as movies, tv shows, and video games are.

Because books are typically a different form of Science Fiction that I wouldn't classify as "Sci-Fi"...

And as I already mentioned, I will be making a specific thread for literary Science Fiction later.
