  1. That would be amazing... If it weren't so expensive. You'd also need UV lights and a huge amount of un-monsanto-ized corn pods. Along with the soil and equipment to maintain it. Even a few hundred cattle or so to keep protein in the diet.

Fish... And various other things designed for aquatic life. It'll even take work off of the air scrubbers with sufficient plant/algae life.

That's the most efficient way of producing protein in a contained environment. (you should read some of Ben Bova's books)

But definitely lots of UV and full spectrum lights...

  2. The internet gives the basement dwellers a voice, how cool is that?

I don't have a basement yet, but I want one...

Then I'll excavate down under the house and build a tunnel network that goes to under each bank in town, (very well supported tunnels, maybe even use reinforced concrete for the tunnel lining) and have a couple exterior entrances to the tunnel network... Build a 20 x 30 room for the computers, a 15 x 20 entrance room for each entrance, a couple dozen 10 x 15 bedrooms, a 20 x 25 kitchen, and a 50 x 50 meeting room. Maybe even a small shooting range...

Tap into a phone line, one of the cable substations, and one of the transformers at one of the power substations. Probly put in some air scrubbers...

Then I just have to figure out who I want invite to live with me and survive the apocalypse with...

  3. Warp speed

I thought nothing could move faster than the speed of light without damaging the fabric of reality.

It's called Warp because it warps space in such a way as to allow the standard sublight speeds to move you much faster. In Star Trek it was basically forming a subspace bubble around the ship that allowed the ship to move as if it were in subspace without completely leaving normalspace.

  4. You know how long it would take to travel 400 lightyears at Star Trek's warp 10? Close to 5 months.

Actually, Warp is an interesting speed calculation method that is not just multiples of the speed of light.

Warp 1 = Light speed equivalent

Warp 2 = Double light speed

    Warp 3 = 6x

    Warp 4 = 24x

    Warp 5 = 120x

    Warp 6 = 720x

    Warp 7 = 5,040x

    Warp 8 = 40,320x

    Warp 9 = 362,880x

Warp 10 = 3,628,800 times the speed of light

Or at least that's the way it's supposed to be calculated.

  5. Damn...

Their ocean physics looks about as close to real as I've ever seen in a computer simulation, and the sunset looks very real.

If they finish it with all the base stuff for high-end GFX games, (fog, multiple shadows, ambient occlusion, weather effect, etc.) I'm sure they'll have no trouble selling it as a "true to the real world" game... (provided they make all the various weapons for the real world they way they are in the real world, and not based on some arbitrary system of "this one looks cooler, so lets make it more powerful" like most games)

  6. I do wait with wallet open for a few. Portal2 will get a buy, rFactor2 if it ever comes, Hawken could rape the cash out of me and I would still thank it. I paid for minecraft because if you don't girls don't like you. And when Outerra has a super pre-alpha they want to test for cash they too will receive my full budget.

Actually, the only two out in the near future that I have any interest in buying are DX:HR and HL3/HL2EP3... Everything else is torrent first, buy if good later.

  7. They're all still peanuts.

    Yes, but all different kinds.

They're prepared differently. That doesn't make them a different peanut.

Most of the time they are though...

  8. Bomb southern California and all of Texas. Problem solved.

Nah, just level Beijing and New York, and we'll be good for the next century or two...

I thought we were talking about Americas population.

I need to start paying attention...

Beijing uses most of the Chinese food production... Beijing gone, that food can come to us.

  9. The literal translation of "Panspermia" is, in fact, "all seed." Nothing about origin, human, or race.

That is the word translation, not the meaning translation.

In any case, saying we were seeded doesn't answer the original question... where did the seeders come from, ad Infinitum.

So just because some people dislike to speculate on something we don't, and may never know, the theory has to be thrown out as nonsense?
