  1. Emulators can never beat the real thing in my opinion. Only... well, emulate it.

You should try them before you condemn them... Most can perform Anti-Aliasing on those old N64 games while emulating them perfectly otherwise, and that I would definitely consider beating the original.

  2. We as humans helping each other, while respecting the rest of the animal kingdom is not anarchy.

And of course, I never said it was. What I did say is that anarchy is how animals live with each other. Not that there's anything wrong with that; any system other than anarchy would be impossible and absurd in the animal kingdom.

It's early and I don't have much time, but I wanted to hit on this subject...

Wolf packs are hierarchical not anarchical. Same for most other carnivorous species... (though none as prominent as the wolf)

    I don't think I've seen a single herbivore group that didn't closely resemble a dictatorship/communism system.

    Where is the anarchy?

  3. It's about what is being taught in schools, and is definitely what Michael Archer has been successfully propaganda'd into believing.

    Another ad hominum attack? *sigh*

If you're going to do that, the least you can do is come up with an attack that can't also be applied to you.

    Why?

On what I think should be taught in schools as what the beginning was, nothing at all until you get to religion classes. (evolution is a belief/religion until it has been proven as a fact)

Scientists have developed a model that explains how things work in real life based on facts and empirical evidence; until we have something better, we're going with that.

Do you even know what science is and how it works?

That doesn't change the fact that it isn't fact. It is still not proven, is therefor a belief, and should not be treated as anything but, no matter the source.

  4. Sorry, I'm going to veto Psychonauts as being obscure enough for this section. It was a released on multiple platforms, had a Zero Punctuation review, has its own lengthy wikipedia entry, was one of Tim Schafer's more famous games, and is still for sale on Steam. I'm moving the thread to the gaming section.

Yay! Ross is active! (and quite right about this game)

  5. Yes, but hardware limitations do not automatically mean the games suck. It all depends on how well they utilize the hardware.

I don't care about the games if they charge 20 times the value of the hardware.

I'll wait for an emulator instead of buying into a ripoff.

  6. But in this thread, we're talking about the theory of evolution: a scientific theory that explains the diversity of life. We're not talking about how life came to be.

I thought this thread was about evolution vs. creation being taught in schools, not discussing evolution exclusively?

It's about what is being taught in schools, and is definitely what Michael Archer has been successfully propaganda'd into believing.

  7. I thought some rocket fuels included Kerosene. Anyway, wasn't my intention at all. By lack of oil I was referring to it's applications in certain materials like plastics. Which are kind of a requirement, imo, for space travel. I don't think we have the tech to colonize other planets. I certainly haven't heard or read any article or release on it. Specifically I haven't heard anything on how a living organism like say a human being, would survive leaving the safety of the Earth's magnetic field. The cosmic radiation won't kill a person outright, but it makes a long journey pretty much suicide. And this is just for interplanetary spaceflight, not interstellar spaceflight.

I think Space being an actual place for humans to go beyond research and curiosity, is still science fiction. Sooner or later a person has to come back, unless a safe environment can be created. Besides, if we can't even find some way to exist long-term on our planet, what chance do we have on another? Or are we going to be like some sci-fi space amoeba and go to a planet, use up everything usable then move on to the next?

Also, I think it would be incredibly expensive to mine the moon. It's not like we can just freight train it back.

Rocket fuels don't use kerosene, jet fuels do. (it's a common mixup)

Plastics can easily be made without the use of petroleum products, but they don't because it costs 1-2% more to make it.

We have the tech to produce a portable electromagnetic shield for spacecraft use, it's just cost prohibitive, and there is no need for further research into the field when the government says no to private space travel.

The moon would be easy and cost effective if the government would allow it.

  8. Let's try this again. Now that The Tunnel is available on this website there should be no controversies.

I downloaded the torrent and it is ready for action, as soon as someone seeds for me that is. . . I already got the downloaded version of The Tunnel so the download gets a head start at ~32% on my end.

Well, I'll be seeding for at least 48 hours, but I don't see any activity on my end for some reason...

  9. Half-Life 2 (everyone knows why)

The entire Battlefield series (the best MP FPS ever IMO)

Medal of Honor series (The best, most realistic reproduction of historical events in an FPS game I've seen)

Command & Conquer: Renegade (if only they had a new one for the Red Alert series, and made it a FPS/RPG/RTS combo)

Crysis (most destructible game environment I've seen pre-BFBC2)

Fallout: New Vegas (easiest to mod FPS I've seen)

Tribes 2 (loved the jet packs, the modability, and the overall gameplay style)

  10. So you, who haven't even played this system yet for yourself or even seen the game can already say it's not worth the money? So you have psychic powers? Wow...

I've seen the whitesheets for the hardware they use.

And you can base your statement exclusively on the hardware without even playing one of the games and see how well the games utilize the hardware?

Hardware limitations do exist, if the hardware sucks, I don't pay the company for 20 times it's value. (despite any games it may have, since there will inevitably be an emulator for it in the near future)

  11. If Nintendo had kept their quality up I might've continued to give them money, but as it is... I'll get one of the new PSP's instead, use one of the various hackware firmwares that are out there, and do all those games on a decent game system that's actually worth it's pricetag.

So you, who haven't even played this system yet for yourself or even seen the game can already say it's not worth the money? So you have psychic powers? Wow...

  12. Someone should tell DaveD that torrent files themselves are not illegal or rule violating, only their content is subject to copyrights and other laws. If a file is not allowed to be shared torrents will be equally as bad as any other form of file sharing, such as websites like rapidshare or hotfile. Calling torrent files out specifically just makes no sense. And for the record all Civil Protection episodes are already available for free download on the author's website, I can not imagine anyone being against sharing his/her stuff with torrents specifically unless the person in question is less than well educated on how torrents actually work.

You know what would be a nice title for it? Civil Protection: The Torrent.

    I'll make it...

[EDIT] Here it is... It has all the episodes from the download page all in one torrent. (1.05 GB size for all that)

[EDIT2] I torrent because it's better than getting a max down speed of 200KB/s on a 3.6MB/s connection.

  13. I think what BTG is trying to say is that while physical copies might get damaged beyond repair, Steam will always allow him to redownload his games on a new comp or HD in case the old one crashes.

I have never had any of my games broken beyond repair. My old copy of Quake 2 is scratched to hell and back but still installs without hiccups. If you take good care of your games the natural data degradation will be the end of them, and that process takes decades, even then you can make iso backups of the games (At least the ones not crippled by illegal malw- errr... I mean DRM.) or make a new CD/DVD copy.

It's that DRM that is the big problem, combine that with the fact that I've already lost 2 games to the disk exploding inside the drive, (destroyed the drive) and having that cause a permanent HDD crash at the same time... (the same HDD that has the ISO of said disk)

You can see why I prefer digital copies...

For those wondering which games I lost... Cyberstorm 2, and SimCity 3000 Unlimited. (they were my favorite games at the time, and SC3K I have been unable to find anywhere in the Unlimited version, I have already replaced Cyberstorm 2)

  14. I hear there's a rerelease of StarFox 64 coming out on 3DS.

I'd buy that system JUST for that game.

Same here. It's probably the first game I'll buy for it.

If Nintendo had kept their quality up I might've continued to give them money, but as it is... I'll get one of the new PSP's instead, use one of the various hackware firmwares that are out there, and do all those games on a decent game system that's actually worth it's pricetag.

  15. I wouldn't have guessed that.

I'm trying to play Modern Warfare 2, but the only people left are modders who are tenth prestige and noob tubers. They're usually one in the same.

I think I'll go kill some Caesars Legionaries.

    MW2 compared to BFBC2 is like comparing a Yugo's performance in a race to a Lamborghini's...

    Who's that?

And I haven't played Battlefield yet, but I hear great things.

    What who?

    A Yugo is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zastava_Koral

    A Lamborghini is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is very cool... UCAV's, tanks, APC's, ATV's, and 4 classes with customizable weapon/gadget loadouts... 90% of the buildings can be destroyed piece by piece... You get a bonus weapon if you own any other battlefield game... Additional SP gamemode for you to learn some of the story behind why the Russians are all of a sudden invading the US.
