  1. I have 6 months to make 2 games to graduate and I'm basically at the point where I don't know what to do for 4 of those months since I'm already a good 1/4th through the required content to graduate in the first 3 weeks. I honestly thought a sidescroller in CryENGINE would be harder but setting up the side camera basically solved like 80% of the work on the character and that took 5 hours to learn, build, test and redo because I accidentally deleted said camera without knowing and saving it. -.-

    Ah yesss I remember this.

Sounds like it's turning out well too, mind posting a video for us sometime in the future? C:

Yeah, I'll be needing a demo video of it anyway for the second senior class so I can link it then. For now I just want to make everything function properly first. The hardest of anything will be the AI behavior since for at least 1 game that will be coded from scratch.

If you get them to alpha, I'd be happy to be a tester for you.

I could do this for at least the Unity game because they're cool about posting up games for free and make their executables nice and easy to make. The CryENIGNE game may be a bit of an issue. I know how to build the game for standalone use but the executable gets put in a very weird place which until I can figure out how to build one properly you may just have to put up with jumping through a few folders to find it.

Keep in mind it's probably gonna look kinda odd since I'm doing everything by myself I won't have time for custom characters or any super detailed looks. It'll probably look like a game from 2005 or something lol. Maybe even earlier.

  2. Terraria. Was trying out their newest boss fight and items. The weapons dropped from boss farming were well worth the time it took to get the summon items. They also announced that the Lunar Event is coming soon which I've been excited about since I first heard it. Get to fight the fucking MOON.

It's kind of weird how everyone at my school who plays terraria considers me the go-to person on loadouts, progression, weapon use and boss fights. It's cool but COMPLETELY useless in terms of knowledge. :| Especially since I know so little about potions in that game I may as well be telling them "HAHAHA YOU PUT TEH LIME IN THE COCONUT AND DRINK THE BOWL UP" When they ask how to make any kind of potion.

Also I can now have an army of Sharknados.

  3. The spell was accurately comparable to a pack of roid raging bro piranhas man-handling a poor frail school child. By the time the magic wore off there wasn't even any giblets left, just a magical haze and scorch marks where the spell bounced off the wall before veering back on target.

  4. Speaking of sleep methods... I lay in bed, eyes closed, and build a story universe, then when I start to feel a bit tired I just stop thinking for a few seconds to see if I fall asleep. If I do not fall asleep, I return to the point that I left off in the universe. Rinse and repeat. I also tend to do better when I have music playing softly while I'm trying to go to sleep. (the soundtrack for the movie "Moon" is perfect for this)

OT: Deciding whether to play games, or watch a movie/TV series...

I sort of do this when I have trouble sleeping. I just create a mental character, give him a situation and see how it plays out. I do this until I realize that I can't remember what I was thinking about mere seconds after I think it because that happens a couple minutes before I fall asleep.

OT: Eating icecream at 5 AM while mentally planning my day. I might just work ahead of what I have to for the week so I can relax a bit next week. I've been needlessly stressing over my senior thesis project.

  5. I'm still trying to figure out when ADHD became an insult. I have a very bad case of it and it's more of a challenge than an impairment to me.Although I'm sure Psycho didn't mean that to be an insult it did kinda come out like one

Moving on, I have 6 months to make 2 games to graduate and I'm basically at the point where I don't know what to do for 4 of those months since I'm already a good 1/4th through the required content to graduate in the first 3 weeks. I honestly thought a sidescroller in CryENGINE would be harder but setting up the side camera basically solved like 80% of the work on the character and that took 5 hours to learn, build, test and redo because I accidentally deleted said camera without knowing and saving it. -.-

  6. I didn't really mean giving it away, no money to mail it anywhere.

I know you didn't mean it. I meant that part as a joke. :P

As for vista sucking, my reasoning came from my first vista which didn't run anything properly. The thing even managed to get a virus without an internet connection and I never plugged in any external drives.

  7. Hey, anyone want a laptop that managed to get Windows 7 installed on it without removing XP properly, causing it to occasionally start in XP, become highly unstable and burn its core components? One that also can't shut down properly due to the same conflict, and thus can't restart, and can't install new software if it requires restarting? One that has a touchpad that can't be disabled and makes typing a monumentally difficult challenge but can't actually be used effectively as a touchpad? A computer that burns 40-60% of its RAM doing absolutely nothing because it's running two operating systems? A computer that is so weak it can't even run DOOM effectively, can't use modern microsoft office files and has issues with the internet and especially Youtube, where it flat-out doesn't work?

Yeah, didn't think so. On the plus side, when closed it makes a great mousepad.

I'll take it. It'll look great along with all my other functionally stunted laptops that are so far gone to any combination of heat damage, transport damage, and just general well use that they can't even run word documents correctly anymore. One of the ASUS doesn't even have the ability to create new folders. at all. The startup process is an amazing 20+ minutes before programs start working, the screen has lost a wide range of it's color, and it's disk drive gives the click of doom. The other ones level of heat damage from blocked vents is so bad that every single game has graphical artifacting, and closing any application at all runs a good 50%+ chance to cause a bluescreen. Even when not closing programs it still has an uncomfortably high chance to bluescreen with a new error report every time. There's also an old old dead Alienware somewhere around here too but it tends to be a bit camera shy.

This isn't my rant though. I actually take an odd pride in my collection of dysfunctional laptops. My real rant involves the newest addition to the laptop collection, the one bought to replace the clicking disk drive ASUS so I can actually have a PC to graduate with. All I need to get 90% of my rant across is these 2 words:

    Windows 8.1

I'm convinced a Mac would make a better game development platform that this thing. I had to delete registry keys just so I could get CryENGINE to run without windows thinking it was using all it's RAM and force closing the program to prevent data loss when I still had 9 gigs of ram left. To add to that, I had to download a 3rd party addon just to get my stupid start menu back. And as a programmer, having a calculator tool on the old computer that could be set up to assist with calc and trig functions was god send. Then 8.1 comes along and fucks THAT up by making calculator a god damned full screen program which is just stupid when you have to keep opening and closing the calculator window just to make sure your mathf functions are working.

  8. Due to a very resourceful and rather generous friend of mine, lets just say my 1TB external drive's content now cumulatively values higher than what some people earn in a year, and I still have 566 gigs of free memory. Not like I'd ever actually get that much for it though. I just thought it was funny and a little scary how much that thing is potentially worth now.

  9. You know what sucks? Constantly losing connection to the internet.

You know what sucks even more? Constantly losing connection to the internet while trying to watch a video.

Oh hey, guess what, I lost connection once while trying to submit this post, and 3 times while trying to edit said post to fix a mistake, and now once while typing this bit. Lets see how many times I lose connection when I hit the "Submit" button again. Once. Well, that was underwhelming.

I haven't been able to do anything online at home for the past 4 weeks because my ISP decided that paying them monthly was a good enough excuse to basically provide at BEST 40 kb/s for a grand total of 20 minutes every day before not actually loading anything at all for the rest of the 23 hours and 40 minutes. Been stuck using my schools internet which is now miles better than my home despite it's shittiness.
