  1. There's just so many I could choose. Given that the title of the thread specifically says 'game' singular...

Now, I freely admit that Doom isn't perfect. The mazes can get frustrating, the arrow-key control scheme adds loads of fake difficulty, and it's dated in other ways (some more obvious than others), but I will always go back to Doom in some form or another. It's amazing that a game from 1993 still beats out modern triple-A games with budgets that could end poverty, but to me, it always will.

A lot of what I love about Doom has to do with the community. There are still people updating the engine and making new maps, ranging from more of the same to incredible feats of game design like Deus Vult II and Back to Saturn X, not to mention Brutal Doom. There's also something about the 'one main against the world' narrative that I can relate to on a personal level.

So, that's why Doom is my favourite game ever. As for what I think is objectively the best game, that's a hard question. Probably Half-Life 2.

Doom is awesome when played in a modern source port.

  2. My opinion: If I had an offer of $2.5 BILLION to stop working on something that had become a chore, I'd take it too.
Well I don't want to be too hard on Notch since he's a fan of the videos actually, but I think everybody making the "of course I would sell" argument doesn't already have 600 million dollars in the first place. There's not a whole hell of a lot you can't do with 600 million that you can with over a billion when you have that kind of money to begin with. I was thinking about it actually, if I had that kind of money, I would feel some sort of responsibility to try and better humanity in some way, it's just an incredible sum. I actually sent Notch an email telling him I respect his decision if he turns around and uses the money to start a cult.

I think the controversy comes from selling it to Microsoft. Like I'm making up numbers here, but I bet if he sold it to Valve or Riot Games for 1.5 billion, I doubt there would be too much controversy and he still would have made out like a bandit on top of having already made out like a bandit to begin with.

Yeah, Microsoft has a ton of stigma nowadays. Probably up there with EA among being considered an evil corporation thing.

I think Notch should definitely focus on spending the money where it matters.

  3. This just in: I just spent $150 to buy a very high-end 75mw 405nm laser... It'll be here in 1-3 weeks. I'll try to post pictures when I get it.

    LASER - CAUTION - LASER - CAUTION - LASER - CAUTION - LASER...

  4. XD Yah. I once trolled my friend by using my slang. X3 She wanted to introduce me to one of her friends so I put on my thickest accent possible and talked Australian for 2 hours. They ended up having to use Google to try and translate my speech and it'd take them a few good minutes to reply. XD

5:17 AM - ?Jeb_CC?: Strewth! Two young sheila seppos already got their plan and it ain't just a bowl of rice.

5:18 AM - ?Captivating Classy Celty?: I like that expression :P

5:18 AM - Cunning Commander Cern: I haven't heard her with the accent this thick... ever.

5:19 AM - Cunning Commander Cern: It's hilarious.

    5:19 AM - Cunning Commander Cern: ^w^

5:20 AM - ?Jeb_CC?: You'll both be flat out like a drinking lizard. Heh. So how long you two sheilas been together now?

5:21 AM - Cunning Commander Cern: Goodness gracious.

    /\ That's only a thirtieth of it. X3

to put that damage into perspective, take a look at the pistols damage on the right. that is my highest damage output weapon right now.

The Nukem kinda destroys everything. Fittingly.

There's simply not a single thing I really dislike about this game and so far it's the only game on Steam I have over 900 hours of playtime in. The reason? It feels like the perfect combination of FPS, RPG, humor and insanity that makes it never boring to play and I keep coming back to it almost on a daily basis (well, not so much more after The Pre-Sequel came out but still a lot). I even bought a PS Vita and the Vita version as well just so I can play it on the go. It really is my favourite game of all time, hands down. And in my opinion one of the best sequels ever made.

I pretty much love the entire franchise though. The first game and the recently released Pre-Sequel are both games I come back to a lot.
