  1. Yeah, it caused quite a stir. Quite hilarious in retrospect but at the time, I can imagine it scared a lot of people. Nobody had attempted anything like that before.

Yeap, it was a quite an interesting social experiment. They said that, to his dying day, when asked about whether the panic it caused had been intentional or a completely unexpected side effect, Orson Welles would just smile and not answer.

And that's why he was awesome. :D

  2. Cool people must hate. Hate is what drives us forth negtemlen! But not weiners! Boss is mad cuz you touched his special shalalaaah! Up in his tralalaaah! Down in his~

  3. I just played until a bit after the Resonance Cascade

(this is a spoiler for those who haven't played yet)

Visually it's great but the games is really, really choppy at some moments :/ I'm not sure why, but it seriously disturbs the gameplay

Some elements of the game (as much as they make it more real and logical) at the beginning, already exclude some funny comments, including "Am I the only person with a beard?" And that's a shame! ;)

As I said I enjoyed visuals sooo much! Especially these little things and details they added, someone worked a lot on these! And someone also made pretty bad voice acting, unless all the scientists are on drugs. This voice acting kinda doesn't feel like it would go well with Ross' voice.

In general, I'm just even more convinced that Black Mesa is NOT for Freeman's Mind as it is. But as a game, yeah! I definetly want to play it !

I agree completely. It wouldn't work well with Freeman's Mind, which in a way is written around the original half-life, not Black Mesa.

  4. Yes, of course, Steam is needed to *run* the thing. But at least I can download the game on one machine and install on any other machine I want (yes, which must have Steam malware on it) without having to ask for anyone's permission.

The quality of Black Mesa mod is impressive. Valve should retrospectively hire the developers and give them full back-pay and bonuses for quick release turnaround (by Valve-time standards ;-) ).

    Regards

    Yeah, what you said.

  5. To sum it up as shortly yet accurately as possible: "It is a labor of love by true fans of the original Half-Life."

Accurate indeed. I think that should be the tagline for it.

Yeah, the Source games and mods haven't been Steam free since the pre-Steam days.

No source games existed before Steam heh.

Technically, no. The only Valve game to exist before Steam was Half-Life pretty much and the official Valve-released mods for it like Counter Strike, and Half-Life used the Quake engine, which was called the Half-Life engine until Half-Life 2 was released, where it was retroactively dubbed the GoldSrc engine which had been an internal name for it up until that point.

The source engine came about the same time as Steam and Steam actually launched before HL2 was released, since HL2 was one of the first games to allow people to preload the game before it was released so they could play it on the day of release.

  6. When I saw you mention to Back to the Future game, I was worried their Jurassic Park title would be on the list. Don't get me wrong, it's decent, but I wouldn't put it on a list like this.

Edit: while I'm at it, I'll give a shout-out to Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, for the PS2 and Xbox. It was basically a theme park simulator, except with Jurassic Park.

    Sounds pretty good.
