I might try turning off VSync and reinstalling DirectX.

But that's the thing, I'm not detecting any background processes hogging resources. I carefully ended them before entering the game.

I could try running a scan of course, but I doubt it. Borderlands runs just fine on 1920x1080 with all the special options enabled and Duke Nukem Forever also runs fine.

I get very unstable fps rates, ranging from 20 to 60 fps and I can't even enable DirectX because the game gives me an error message if I do.

Then I have no idea what it is. I get massive lag in certain parts of the game, especially with heavy amounts of smoke or other effects. I can't run it with DirectX 11 enabled, I have to turn off every effect there is to even get it up to 60 fps and even then it goes down to 20 fps at some parts. Running it at a lower resolution doesn't help either. And I have firefox, msn and pretty much everything in the backgruond turned off so that I don't get RAM issues. Besides, I think a better graphics card would be great, especially since the 6990 has 4 GB VRAM and the 5770 only has 1 GB.

Been playing Borderlands a lot lately since my graphics card is too weak to handle Deus Ex HR. Gonna save up for a Radeon HD 6990.

I am not at all excited for DsX. Considering I never even played the first one, and I also keep on confusing it with Crysis for some reason...

Not really. A remake has to be more substantial than that. A fine example would be Yar's Revenge, which has received a totally new story and plot altogether and is a totally new game altogether.
