  1. I had the Half-Life Uplink demo that came out in 99; it was on a CD attached to some PC gaming magazine. There were loads of shareware games and demos bundled together on one disc. Do magazines still do that? I used to discover so many games that way.

Anyway, I absolutely loved the demo and played it repeatedly, and got the full game soon after. I had a full on nostalgia squeal when Ross brought Uplink into Freeman's Mind, as I'd heard nothing else about it and thought it was some lost gem that only I'd heard of. After seeing it on FM I found out it'd been modded to run on Steam.

Yeah, the neat thing about Uplink is that it was basically cut content so it was clever marketing in that none of it actually appeared in the game so anyone that had the demo, basically had more of the full game. Gunman Chronicles did the exact same thing with their demo.

  2. Hello all! I just made an account here today after being a fan of Ross's content for many years. As evidenced by the username, I'm a fellow that really enjoys his music. I'm also somewhat of a computer geek. :)

The name's Preston. I'm 21 years old and live in the U.S. in Minnesota. I came here in the hopes of meeting fellow fans of Ross's stuff and also perhaps meeting others that enjoy similar music.

Welcome! Nice to see a music fan here. :D

    And welcome back, Scott!

  3. I've been watching some more Jim Sterling lately and my opinion of him has changed a bit. It's nice to see he's not always hampering about the same issues again and again but actually focuses on different things, and I actually find him to be a very good critic. And it is kind of entertaining to see how much shit this guy gets tossed at him just because he's a public figure with strong opinions.

I also love that he tackles problems with a sense of humor and never takes himself too seriously, unlike some of the assholes he's dealt with (Digital Homicide, Nintendo Fanboys to name a few).

  4. Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2

Might come off kinda bad in this forum, but I'm not saying these games are bad. They are by all means some of the most groundbreaking games ever released. It's just that they were so groundbreaking that after their release, better games have already come out and taken inspiration from them, so at this point they both kinda feel... dated. I still love these games but I find them kinda hard to come back to.

    Fallout 3

Kinda talking about Vanilla Fallout 3 here as mods is the only reason this game has any longevity. With the ugly models and clunky combat, not to mention the godawful durability system, this game kinda feels difficult to revisit without hardcore modding...
