  1. Something had to break the dam. And I think there being worse examples is not really an excuse to just turn a blind eye to something. Also this isn't a reaction that suddenly popped up over night. Last year Killing Floor 2 decided to put an ingame shop into the game while it was still in beta and it lost almost 20% of it's rating due to vengeful vote-bombing on steam and hasn't recovered it since. People hate microtransactions and the bigger the IP the bigger the outcry, which is what we're seeing here.

There was also a huge ass backlash with Payday 2 when they inserted microtransactions. Hell, many of the things done to the game, directly and indirectly, caused a huge backlash. Sure they're recovering, but the wounds are still there.

Understandable, Payday 2 is a multiplayer game so microtransactions inadvertently affects everyone else.

  2. Either people are atheists, agnostic or just not that blatant about their religion. Personally I belong to the latter camp. I just don't talk about religion unless someone shows interest in talking about it because I don't feel it's my place to force people to talk about it, or force my views on them. I always assume people have made up their mind one way or the other.

  3. Deus Ex GOTY With GMDX Mod:

I had JC merge with Helios as that seemed to be the lesser of three evils IMO. Tracer Tong's plan was extreme so that was right out. I also trust a hyper intelligent AI to run the world better than a group of cowardly old men like the Illuminati. I also don't believe Helios is insane like Ross said either. From my perspective Helios was pure curiosity without restraint and the somewhat rational part of Helios knew that it needed stability in order to rule effectively. So merging with JC was a logical choice.

Yeah I always go for the Helios ending too. Just seems the best ending to me.

  4. Great review and I agree on the writing and general themes of the game being too far removed from reality when Deus Ex 1 was very grounded in reality. But I'm generally too much of a fan of cyberpunk stuff to not really mind this and actually rather enjoyed it, especially the Robocop vibe. None of it bothered me personally but you gave a fair explanation on why it bothered you.

And yeah... giving people a free concussion is merciful apparently. Though I guess it's merciful compared to stabbing them or giving them flechette poisoning.

Nurses regularly have to move people who weigh upwards of 300 pounds and who are basically incapable of moving themselves. You bet your ass they would be pressured into augmenting in the HR universe.

Hell yeah, nursing is no cakewalk for sure.

  5. Here's the problem though, why the fuck should they pay attention to any message now, when NOTHING was done when this shit has gone on for the past few years in many other games? Or at least nothing significantly enough to cause them to be stopped then. What, all of sudden Deus Ex does it and everyone says this is the last straw and Eidos has to take the fall for it?

I agree. I have no idea why suddenly this is the game that makes everyone go apeshit over microtransactions. It is hardly the worst example I can think of.
