Well, I finally got permission from my girlfriend to buy a new machine* . I still don't know if I'll go for a retail laptop or I'll put together a nice gaming desktop (I really don't have a lot of free time on my hands these days), but either way I'll post some questions here later to get your opinion on potential components.

My father was one of the first ones to get ISDN. I still remember the sound you got when connecting with a modem though. I thought they were a bit scary at first.
