How many flipping FF games are there?
-
Fair enough. Really portal is one of the only games that comes up as puzzle game with story(adventure game). I have never really played a lot of Puzzle games. But that is for the same reason I wouldn't want to play a target range game, the mechanic is fun 'n all but it alone does not hold up as a game. But Portal has a lot more to it than just plain puzzles, it has character and story something that makes me want to continue to play. Sadly I don't know of many puzzle games that have this.
When I think puzzle games, my mind tend to drift more towards titles such as Bejeweled, Zuma and Tetris, that is games that are designed around some sort of game mechanic or gimmick. So in my opinion Portal and Portal 2 definitely fit my criteria for puzzle games since they are designed around the mechanic of using portals, and when I think of adventure games, I think of games that are more story-centric and not designed around a mechanic or gimmick, good examples being Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Longest Journey and so on.Ninja'd me there. The big difference between Portal and game like Bejeweled is, as mentioned before, Portal has character and a story that makes me want to continue to play the game. Games like you mentioned do not. They are more like Pac-man, they are about reaching a score rather than experiencing a story.

But what is the difference between a puzzle game with a story and a adventure game then?

I'm in high school and I am totally aware of what an idiot I am ^^

So in the FPS thread there was a little debate going about what classifies as a FPS and a RPG, a hybrid, a FPS with RPG elements ect. However this was deemed off-topic, which I agree with. Soooo, I made this thread. To talk about Video Game Genres in general. What do you think classifies as what, what shouldn't classify as something and why ect. Its pretty interesting since sometimes games can be pretty vague about what genre it is in.
I'll guess I start with something out of the previous thread. I don't think the Elder Scrolls Games(the newer ones anyway) are FPSs(side question, this has been bothering me for a while, how do you pluralize FPS? FPS', FPSs, FPS's?) because they don't center around gunplay, they center around creating your own character. Which is what I perceive as an RPG, you being able to create your own character and have the ability to end up with vastly different characters every time you play the game.

I guess the line between being just downright stupid, being clumsy and actually being mentally challenged is pretty vague for some people. I still think you should not think that seriously about MLP, after all it is still a show for little girls. And IF the makers wanted to somehow do something about mental disabilities in the show they would have done it more elaborate and easier to understand. And that really is a big IF, because it is a pretty serious and complicated subject that would be hard to simplify into a lesson for a younger audience.
Gosh, now you even got me talking all seriously about it.

Alright, I admit, this thread is getting to much of a random thread.
So I recently saw some video's on the HL2 mod Synergy. I have been wondering, how many people does it support(for the main campaign anyway)?
How awesome would it be to do like a little Run at HL2 with a bunch of us from AF. I mean the forums are build on Half Life, so it is pretty much a given most of us enjoy Half Life to begin with.

While I agree on that making promises you can't keep is not better than making no promises at all, the way you are saying this is completely unnecessary and downright disrespectful.

Well the 45 minute method did run most of them to the brink of exhaustion, Granny especially, so they probably never made enough for their health's sake.
But usually they would have a whole day, they can take hours of brakes if they want to.
-
Obsessed with this at the moment,
Can't blame you, its a really good show.

I don't really like people calling Bioshock a FPS/RPG hybrid actually, its a FPS with RPG elements. Big difference.

I find it funny, the whole issue with drinks being run out could have easily been solved through a ticket system. instead of buying drinks, you bought the tickets ahead of time, and got, say, 3 drinks per ticket, max 1 ticket. You can either get all 3 drinks at once or spread it out across multiple days. That way no one can just keep coming back every day and taking it all so no one else gets it. It'll also help them figure out how much they need to make depending on amount of tickets sold.
of course, wouldn't be much of an episode if they did that.
What I found funny is that they couldn't make enough cider in at least a day to have enough for the whole town, but were able to make more than enough in 45 minutes while sharing a bunch of their apples with competitors.

One of the most badass female game characters, even though she doesn't have that much of a character.

Jack Ryan. No explanation needed.
-
Its more of a FPS/RPG hybrid.

How can you mess up a sprint function?

Ah, well as you can see like...4 posts up I, too, struggled with this. Wierd thing is, I think I've 'gotten past' it. Like, I don't think the male body is unattractive and I still have mostly the same feelings, I just now can't honestly see myself with someone of the same sex. Maybe THAT'LL change too, I don't know. For now though, I'm classifying myself as straight: curiosity satisfied.
That seems to be a very normal thing to happen during puberty/teen years(not specifically talking about you since I actually have no idea how old you are).
I am still a ridiculously feminine straight guy.

That is all.

I just grabbed a bunch of different teabags and threw them into a mug with a bunch of hot water, flavor overload.
