  1. Okay, case study:

My gf was born with cervical ribs. These are ribs that grow sideways from the way regular ribs grow, off the cervical vertebrae. They can wrap around blood vessels and/or the heart, causing a loss of circulation and even loss of limbs if left untreated.

This problem was not found until her last year in college. She had to undergo two major surgeries to remove the ribs, or lose her arms, becase the ribs were tightening around her major arteries.

JUST after her surgeries, and I'm talking days after, her older sister went through complications from childbirth, and was confined to a bed, leaving 4 kids to tend to. Her husband was working to support the family. Her other siblings were soo far away (or too self-centered) to help.

On her own, my gf volunteered to care for all 4 kids, without having had any time to recuperate from her own surgeries. She did this for several years, and suffered considerably as a result. She is STILL suffering, 20-odd years later, because her surgeries did not heal properly due to the strain she put them under.

Meanwhile, she and the sister had a falling-out (because sister is a Class-A Giant Bitch - believe me, I've met her) and because of this, gf hasn't seen these kids in years. So, not even that benefit.

And now, of course, gf couldn't care for anyone else (like me, for instance) because of all the damage she suffered back then. She's disabled, can't work, and has to subsist on SSI.

So, yeah. There's a limit. If you destroy yourself with caring, you'll never be able to be any good to anyone else afterwards.

    Martyrdom is stupid.

I hate to be a prude but I'm actually really interested in how the sister can be such a bitch as to have a falling out with someone who helped take care of her kids while suffering through pain like that. That's just...well, bitchy.

  2. I've been getting the sense that Ian (Barney's Mind) is either incredibly busy or incredibly fucking lazy, and I'm kinda pointing at the latter.

Shephard's Mind isn't really updated 'irregularly', he's doing an L4D2 mod, trying to figure out a cool way to end SM, and waiting for OP42 to come out so he can start Season 2.

I guess Cyhanide finished her MCAT (I think they were MCATs) and that's what's been holding her up this year. That and life I guess.

Corky's problems seem the most tragic because he waited forever for computer parts, installed them, and they didn't work, and apparently they took a shitton of his money and he has to send it back. I sincerely feel bad for him. :(

  3. I think we got a bit sidetracked.

It's only a natural continuation of the idea. We know what's in your pants, so we may as well know whether you like the other in-the-pants stuff or prefer stuff that looks like your own.

OT: My pants stuff is like a lone tree in the middle of a savannah that has the top most part of its leaves trimmed away...with two huge boulders on each side at the base. So I guess I'm not a gentleman.

    O_O

I think that post stole my virginity.

  4. A free alternative to Photoshop is a handy editor called the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). It's got quite a lot of features, most of which I myself have never used because I'm not an artist. It supports custom-made plugins and so on.

On a more on-topic note, that signature looks pretty cool. Was it originally from a screencap from the E3 trailer? It looks familiar. :D

It's not Photoshop, but it's served us well enough.
  5. Yeah it's a really impressive looking mod. They're using unfinished models from the beta or otherwise (except for the Bullsquid, Houndeye, etc.) and using them as like the ground troops before the Combine decided to employ humans. If they use G-man in this and want original lines, like how I recommended him on the Operation Black Mesa forums, I'd choose Kevin Sisk from the Black Mesa mod. Sounds exactly the same.

I cleaned it up a little bit and changed the text

OMFG this is amazing!! I'm totally using this next time I get to a computer!

Say can you use this same picture but switch the name with 'Kaweebo'? I ask because I wanna use this on other forums where I still use that name as well.

  7. Edit: (i just caught that you said "filming lines" not "dialogue line". below is still valid, because Ross said in some other thread that writing his conclusion for this episode is a bitch.)

he probably just doesn't like his intro line(s)..trust me a good intro is important, I've read enough books and watched enough movies to know that. i imagine the same principle applies to Ross' medium :)

    the intro gets one hooked.

    the body keeps one watching.

the ending keeps one excited for the next episode.

the conclusion to the final episode leaves one satisfied that the series is over. (Ian Riley did great with this ;)) (and this is probably why Robin Darnell is finding such a hard time finishing his series(Shephard's mind) :?:.)

i don't know which is harder to write..intros or conclusions..

But really, in the case of Shephard's Mind (and possibly FM) the final episode has to get you excited for the NEXT series. SM in Opposing Force 2 and maybe FM in HL2 if Ross decides to do that.
