  1. "Eustace had to go and do something stupid. Marsinta is going to kill me..." said Roam as the gunnery crews set themselves out on their task to defend the Valiant.

The two mediumish heavy cannons berth at the top and underside of the frigate swiveled to face the Corvettes, firing off a salvo of their enormous shells towards the flight.

The deft motion of the Glain Nedir smashed through the flight of the Janzars, obliterating one of the Corvettes and disabling two of the other nearby craft, dazing their electronics with the energy-sapping bombs. The enormous rounds of the Shadow Spear shredded through the armor with a violent explosion of another one of the Corvettes, making it look like it had been hit by an asteroid of equal size, leaving it a smoldering hulk flying off in a strange direction. The large shells of the Valiant failed to make true and sped off away from the flight, dissolving in a puff of aborted charge some great distance beyond the battle.

One of the Corvettes, the pilot obviously noticing he was fighting a losing battle, began to flee back towards Carina Station in a sort of wobbly flight path, either being an experienced dodge pattern, or a very nervous man jiggling the control stick while frantically looking backwards.

    Janzar Corv. 1 destroyed

Janzar Corv. 2 approaching Valiant, losing control, taking serious damage

Janzar Corv. 3 out of formation, losing speed and integrity, no control apparent, taken serious damage

    Janzar Corv. 4 destroyed

Janzar Corv. 5 Retreating at above average speed.

  2. I love good medics. Ones that can spread the love and manage their team well.

My main grievance in the game is with people who are actually good enough to contend at my level or better, that obviously only play the game to win. Their play style doesn't ebb or flow with the average skill level, they just dominate without relent.

It pains me when I'm the most skilled player on my team, and that one guy who plays to win entirely chomps down at all times on a bunch of newer guys below me. :(

  3.

You should describe in your post weapons firing, manouvers or those sorts of details.

If you only describe what your PC says to your crew, I'm not going to describe for you how your crew reacts to your commands.

Also, I'm not going to be making a Combat Result post in response to every single combat action post. I'll post one in response to a few actions every once and a while.

The Xielumbus flight maneuvered itself inbetween the Janzars and the Valiant, hovering in a slow strafe to one side, firing on the five corvettes as they closed in on the carrier Frigate. The Laser fire shredded into the paneling of the front of one of the heavy corvettes, pecking away at its armor. Another one was slammed by one of the shells from the heavy cannon, deflecting off and detonating late, making a massive explosive burst just off to one side away. As a result the other corvette began swerving downwards in a tightening spiral pattern, trailing a thick gray smoke and small bits of debris.

  4. Irrelevant. The NSF soldiers will take care of that.

Ok, this is a section of my own conspiracy theory chart. I focused on the section where the players relevant to this forum are portrayed.

Red line: amicable relations. Frequent collaborators, up to and including coitus.

    Green line: mortal enemies.

Blue line: they are known to collaborate against a common foe.

    That's actually pretty proficient.

@Fluttershy, it is very well and good that it could be in the nature of your character to be impatient, but channeling your personal regards to the expediency of the game does not benefit the atmosphere of game.

Specifically, towards players who may be under scheduling constraints in the real world, that can't make the RP a priority as high as you can: eg. they may not have as much free time to post here. Please be courteous in that regard.

Additionally, I personally do not want conversationalistic posting of just single-sentences or single words. Please limit that.

@LordSinister: Sorry for not addressing this earlier. I thought people would get the gist from the post habits of other players.

@Everyone: How many actions they can take per post is "As many as they wish to, as long as it is within reason, in context to the relative passage of time given by other players (the rates of their actions) and the rates at which they can interact with them."

This of course can allow for permission overrides in a way, if you plan on interacting in a specific way with other PCs, or don't wish to drag things out.

    • For example, if one player character wanted to shake hands with another, one could either Offer a handshake in one post, and then hope that the post immediately following would be that other PC in response that accepts the handshake.
OR they could read that other Player's sheet and make an Assumption as to how they'd respond to that specific (non-important) gesture (the handshake) and make a post that describes how their PC offered a handshake, and the other PC accepted it, in the same post. (Or, if the second Player thought this incongruous, it could be edited by the first player to be more in the nature of the second Player's imagining of their character.)

The very nature of such an action of that is called "Other PC Control", and the lines can get blurry as to when can be defined as an unimportant action (which may not be of consequence if players other than yourself take command of your PC or ship) or an important action (which can be very annoying, disturbing or frustrating if other players control your PC in a way you don't want or like). Because of this, Players are discouraged from doing this. However I as GM retain the right to assume full control over other Player Characters if I feel that the game must be expedited. For example, this evening I almost did for your character, LordSinister, and sent you a Private Message saying that I would if you did not make a post by 6pm PST.

The general rule of thumb for actions I say is simply whatever one feel's comfortable with as long as it fits within the pace of everyone together more or less. Fluttershy having posted on the previous page in a very small paragraph what took others more than one post to describe (ship readying and forming up with the Valiant) is teetering on that fine line to walk between speaking into the future and presuming the current situation and perception of the environment.

Battle however will be different. Players are limited to one combat action (plus one other action, be it maneuver, repair, weapon prep, etc.) per Post. (One combat action can include descriptions of the specific use of any or all weapons mounted on your vessel. If you have a frigate with four weapons total, one combat action can describe four different weapons firing.)

Once a combat action has been posted, I will post the level of success of that action.

Players can post any number of normal kinds of posts during combat as well, but when they use their weapons they are limited to only one Combat Action Post per Reaction Post (posts made by me that describe success).

And another note, when colorizing Bold text to indicate conversations by other players, use #FF0000 so that we don't get wildly varying (and distracting) colors.

The ensemble of Spaceships formed around the Valiant, which had been largely hiding in the cast shadow of the planet Carina III, rendered entirely black by the contrast of its faded cyan atmosphere.

One of the engineers on the bridge console popped up a spritely voice in a cautioning tone.

"Helmsman, we're getting a weapons trace." a deep booping alert started coming from the screen that read 'Local Combat Comm'. Darril jerked up in his seat, throwing his Rubik's cube behind him without regard to where it was going to land, staring intently into his screen.

"Engines set to Ready, Maneuvering to face heading." he said in a suddenly serious manner.

"Silhouette matches previous record... it's the Janzar." said the weapons officer.

"Horte.." said Darril under his breath. He tapped a notification on his keypad. "Captain, report to the bridge, ready for contact, amber." The Professor, who was sitting nearby on the edge seat of the bridge with a console of his own, turned and furrowed his brow at the change in atmosphere Darril's voice brought.

In the Captain's quarters, richly adorned with velvet drapes and a fuzzy carpet, Roam rose from his bed at the notification, dreary eyed and dazed from a deep sleep which he had very much enjoyed. 'Amber' was the word that prevented his end to his his slumber from being annoyed or humored. Within moments he had straitened himself out from his bedclothes and into his Captain's suit, sporting a vivid maroon coat hung over the shoulder and draping down one side of his body. He strode onto the bridge in an attentive and somewhat frustrated manner, but still with a somewhat insincere smirk on his face.

"Morning fellows." he said in a cool and swarthy voice.

"Captain, we're being approached by a 'Vette, the Janzar." said Darril. Roam's face dissolved from his smile into a rather embittered expression. The Professor looked up from his use of the datapad to his sudden noting of Roam's presence. It was the first time he had seen him what appeared to be 'angry'.

"Sir, they're opening communication, shall we contact?"

"Well it's only polite." He said, somewhere in-between a jovial serious statement and highly annoyed sarcasm.

The main display screen on the wall offered forth the picture of a man sitting in a large metallic chair, somewhat spindly in size with a rounded chin and curly hair.

"Richard Roam, how have you been?" His self-satisfied voice came through oily and partly nasal.

    "Eustace." greeted Roam.

"I see you're still on the down-low since that affair with the Palakkis Clan, not even coming in to dock at Carina and choosing to hide out beyond sensor range. What are you up to these days?"

    "Treasure hunting."

"Oooh, what fun. Say- if you tell me where you're off to, maybe I'll let you keep a cut of it after I report you to Palakar."

"Horte, you never could read a poker game. Do you even see these other ships?" said Roam, gesturing on the holo-display to the signatures of the other vessels around him. The Captain of the Janzar suddenly went quiet, not realizing the situation of the ships's rendezvous.

"I'm not going anywhere, and the Palakki's aren't going to hear a word of it, unless you want to see your precious dinky little ship breaking up and icing out, here in the middle of nowhere."

"I'm not scared of you, Roam! And it's about time we'd meet up like this anyways; you've had it coming since that stint on Ogfo! Get him, boys!"

Four other equally sized corvettes uncloaked immediately beside the Janzar, swooping towards the Valiant.

"Battlestations, arm all weapons and maneuver to avoid." said Roam, taking instant strides towards his seat. He activated a Convoy-wide comm.

"Alright new guys, this is your chance to prove your stripes. Engage the Janzar squadron, destroy them."

    New Combat Objective

Players are to Attack the Janzar Corvette squadron (5 x Heavy Corvette with Torpedoes and Stealth Systems)

Players are to Defend the Valiant

  6. Or anything that implies boom.

    For example:

"'Launch Abort for Terminate Sequence', Fuel Dispersal on Crew Jettison" -> Boring

"Self Destruct and Eject" -> Exciting!

"The whole damn thing blows up" -> Better still
