I don't fully understand you with the "HAVE known that?" Do you mean: "how we would know that?"
If so, you can prove that if you prove that "there is no possibility of a meaning in the universe" which would mean we would have to prove all possibilities of a meaning in the universe wrong. (Not only is that hard, it is against the scientific formula, proving negatives, so science can't help us on this)
There might be a way if we imagine the opposite of our world or something, I have that idea in the mind that if we use a hypothetical anti-world instead of ours it would be easier to prove a meaning.
Seems the chances of us ever proving that is unlikely...

I believe I did say on the forum before in many sections that science and religion will reach a compromise soon, their definitions of life, origin and etc.. might seem different to some but in reality they are more similar to each other then they ever were now.
I thought about this and this is my theory made since 3-4 years ago maybe, now I don't really think about it anymore, it's kindoff obvious to me personally:

@Eedobaba
Sometimes I think this philosophical question can counter argument that:
"Are we wasting all life, studying it, when we really should just live? Is the sole purpose of life, questioning life itself?"
It basically means that even though studying life isn't a bad thing to do, living life for the purpose to study it seems like a paradox purpose (Existing to find out why you are existing)
I believe life should be at least a mix of enjoying it (Art, Friendship, Love, Playing) and studying/questioning it.
EDIT: Blue kind of ninjad me in the middle of editing but it probably is my fault editing it for too long...

The same Mod script from two years ago I sent to my team. It's not finished (because not me nor my team really had any time and we didn't have a coder, and it was at the point I started producing music), and I don't know how it's going to aid you, AF users but this is what I wrote, it gives me some nostalgia to remember working on this mod and reading this...
*MC = Main Character
Through the game I want there to be talk from the MC, comments about environment, situation, etc...
The Colony
------------------------------------------------------------
Pre-Story
You are a Black Ops leader that saved one of the Nukes in Black Mesa where
You had to Nuke it. You turn Yourself in to G-man Fightless due to code of
a black ops...
Act 1
- Camera slowly moving closer to some fire in the middle of blackness,
when it passes the fire suddenly a Title appears, "The Colony",
It keeps moving and sees special effects to the left and right,
when finally a bright light in the end is seen, and that's where the camera gets to it
and the player gets teleported.
- Conversation between G-man, the scientists and MC,
Mc doesn't actually talk, but it's more of an accusal of the wrong actions
he did. While camera is moving effect sounds including burning, lighting
are heard. In the end You hear a teleport sound.
Act 2
- The MC appears in midair falling and damaging himself.
Around he sees Air devices, other props, A locked Generator which is turned off, Bumps of a planet, a weird atmosphere and
an entrance to the bunker with a title "Entrance: Op-B2014"
- The entrance has a siren on since (Ages and ages ago), It will only be turned off
when You kill a headcrab by making it jump into acid on the planet.
- As the siren turns off the door unlocks and slides up.
The door itself should be pretty rusty. After the door opens there is a hallway going at a decline
downwards, with everything pitch dark, after some trouble You find a lightswitch
at the end of the hallway, You spot an elevator button, when pressed,
the elevator comes up with a hand attached to one of the bars....
It's a rough ride down on the elvator. There is a working flashlight on the elevator floor.
- Faint machinery noises from main control room get louder as You go down with the elevator.
The player then moves through the medium size hall to the elevator with everything
creepingly quiet, except those machinery sounds.
- There is airvents at the top of the hall and the first thing he sees is some suit cabinets to the right.
The windows to them are all broken.
- Through the main hall there is marks of burns around.
- A vent system is operational also at the top.
- At the end of the hall there is three paths whith one going to the right and one to the left
and one keeps going forward.
- The right one is blocked by a locked door with a sign saying Teleport-Transport-System.
- The left says Main Control room
- The middle keeps going with a sign that is not understandable due to fire damage.
- If the player keeps going he will find a fairly modern elevator which doesn't work due to no electricity.
There is also another hall going to the kitchen, there the player can find a knife. He can also eat
something by pressing "E" and loose health from posion. Also there is a washroom in the main hallway somewhere.
- To get to the main control room the player breaks a window to the door to it,
The Main control room is where the machinery sounds come from,
the artwork there will be discussed later but should look like a burned main controll room with
a vent coming from the ceiling, which looks like it crashed.
There should also be some blood stains and other props.. Improvise here.
- The player finds a key in a drawer in the main control room of the generator outside.
The player notices the floor is very damaged and tilted.
- The player then must go back top side and turn on the generator with the key.
- When he is finished, and goes back down, he hears a faint scream.
- He keeps going through the main hallway and turns to the main control room,
now with buttons working. If the MC comes to the buttons and presses the labeled "lights",
or "TTS Door" they turn on the lights or open the tts door accordingly.
- When the player tries to come out though, the floor breaks and he falls.....
ACT 3
- Camera fades in and sees the player in a huge mess of waste and garbage lying there for a long time.
- The hall is fairly big and dark, at the top there is still the hole which You fell through, more like slided through.
It looks like You fell 20 stories to the bottom level. There is a big door where the garbage is transported through and
- Crawling out of the garbage the player finds a screw on one side of the sidewalk beside the garbage and a button on the other.
There is a door also but it doesn't open and the windows doesn't break.
- The button is broken but when the MC takes the screw and uses it works as the MC is a good mechanic. As pressed the Waste disposal
opens and the garbage falls down to burn.
- Beside the burning though is a broken vent which the player has to go to.
The vent leads directly to the other side of the locked door in the same room.
- As the player goes into the room which is again pitch black, he finds sees a door and shelves and a radio and numerous
holes made by underground headcrabs. As he finds the lightswitch, and turns it on, he hears high pitched noises from headcrabs
and notices the 2 dead bodies around, and an mp5lookalike-future model machine gun in one guy's hand.
The dead smashed to death. As the MC turns on the lightswitch some new underground headcrabs jump on him and a
normal Half-life zombie attacks him.
- There also is numerous holes in the room (Made by the underground headcrabs).
- The player then gets out of the room to see the hallway looks completely infected by living organisms.
The living ground actually has tentacles that try to kill the player.
Very many Opposing force zombies and normal and opposing force headcrabs attack the player.
The player has to fight a way through some props, find a canister and burn them by using it on the living ground.
- The rooms included in this hallway are all infected, there is a medical room, washroom,
and a large hall of engineering facility where there is machines working to supply the air.
There is also the elevator previously seen but the path there is blocked by living floor and tentacles.
Basically the MC realizes he needs some sort of explosive to get to the elevator.
(This we can improvise during mapping)
- In the washroom the player can find some ammo, a rather large hole where he finds underground headcrabs which climb on the walls
and a nest and some skeletons hanging from the ceiling.
- In the Medical Room the player can find more dead people.
- The engineering room is dark as the light is broken, here some underground headcrab zombies appear from nowhere and attack the player.
- After going through the very large and long engineering room with other rooms inside it and some vents and holes to go throguh
with some difficulty as there will be some obstacles which the player will have to think about,
and enemies coming from nowhere, he reaches the stairs door, opens it and sees a map
and he realizes then that hes is at the -1 floor. There is a map also showing a total of Five Floors.
ACT 4
- Reaching the -5 floor He finds a door along with a sign labeling "Living Quarters"
He needs to find the keys, which are located at a dead guy in an alien
hole of the engineering bay. After opening the door he finds a huge room with many
compartments where people used to live, he finds some melee weapons in these
compartments such as wrenches.
- On the -4 Floor the door is closed.
- On the -3 Floor the door is closed.
- On the -2 floor the door is blocked by Wooden & metal Objets
- The -1 whole floor on the staircase is blocked too.

I'm not going to corrupt that wish simply because I agree.
I wish you Doomshepherd won't eat my soul like it says in his title.

By the history of Alyxx's IRLs I believe she is a furry. Ask her what furries really are.

Freeman has a container with a portal in it and Barney is a wizard.
Adrian Shepard is the only surviving HECU marine in EP3 because he was safely hidden at Aperture Science fucking with the keyboards, but was knocked out by deadly neurotoxin (not killed, thanks to his trusty gas mask) and woke up on a very, very, very cold boat.
Also, how do I manage to get so off-topic in my own topic?
You guys forget that Barney didn't carry as much weapons as the other characters. The Bazooka was only really used in one spot and can be asumed that he dropped it there.

By the sounds of it must be progressive house/trance??

Unless we are talking about my first map I ever made on Hammer of course. But we aren't
, thankfully... -
It only takes me 10 seconds to compile a map.
Seriously, try merging some of the maps for less loading.
No offense but then your maps must suck, there is no way for a proffesionl map to be compiled in 10 seconds.
(No matter what comp.)
No matter what size my maps are, they always take such a short time to compile.
I could download one of Vincent's maps, decompile it, and it would still take only 10 seconds to compile.
Are we talking source or goldsource though???? I really want to know if what versions of executables you are using for BSP and VIS as those are the time hoggers. But anyway you can't make a map that big as I said even if your computer compiles small maps within 10 seconds (Which I still don't believe untill I see this with my eyes) unless you mod the engine simply because There is a limit to the size of a map to compile in hammer and the engine itself.

And the size isn't the worst thing, it's when you bring the entities and the lights in......
-
That's cool, but an official sequel would be better. I want to see some HECU marines in Episode 3.
Then have some bro'
An image of a cut project from Valve, featuring what seems to be Shepard.
I must say that Gasmask looks way too weird and all alien like, I hope this is the beta graphic.
Shephard is my favourite character of Valve, I really hope they do make a sequel with him or something.

The last dream I had that I remembered was maybe a year ago.
This was my dream yesterday:

-
You build up a civilisation you control to greatness through either diplomatic, cultural, technological or military means.
The game can be very much altered though with rules and other game modes.

Selling this mouse for a 50 euro cost is just stupid.
If it was me I would sell it for 49.99 & Shipping and say it's a discount.

Well a gun is a very good killing tool, other weapons of choice would be worse so in case there were no guns, I believe the country would not be safer as the same amount of people would attack other people but survivals of an attack would probably rise.
-
Back on topic: Have you tried merging all the maps and compiling it? Half-life with lag, but no loading!
It is clearly impossible, the sheer size is of the map is around 20 times the limit of what valve hammer can complie.
Not only, that, the half-life engine will crash simply because of too many entities. It will show maxs_entity limitm message and quti the game. I'm not sure if the size of the map is even possible to play on Hl. I know for a fact it is impossible to render it with Valve hammer editor.
People are mad at the editor for taking a long time to compile simple finished maps, this would take forever and then just crash.
It only takes me 10 seconds to compile a map.
Seriously, try merging some of the maps for less loading.
No offense but then your maps must suck, there is no way for a proffesionl map to be compiled in 10 seconds.
