  1. About the stat thing, can't we just keep them as they are? It's close enough and fiddling too much like that is just annoying

    Um, they aren't really that close. And I don't like the fact that none of you have weaknesses, just things you're not as good at. Then again, sometimes that can just make things more fun and less restircitve.

    I'll allow ninja to keep his, Thadeus just drop that 13 to a 12 and it shouldn't change anything else on the sheet, and Ikthias, I find it frustrating that you brought up the point system but couldn't follow it, but fine, I'll let you keep your scores.

    Whooves is pretty OP, though. Please just change any two of those 14s to 12s.

    Jek and Srake, don't change anything. You get brownie points for doing everything right.

  2. How about you acutally say how to fix intead of just "fix it", makes it so much more convineient not to have to go through 100+ posts to find the one comment that might be correct.

    Because there are multiple ways to fix it, though I can make suggestions:

    Ninja turn those 9's to 8's.

    Thadeus turn the 18 to a 16 and the 13 to a 14, or just lower any of them but the 18 by a total of 5.

    Whooves turn three of those 14s to 12s or turn one into a 12 and the rest into 13s.

    Ikthias turn the 18 into a 16 and raise any other one by 2, or lower any of the scores but 18 byt a total of 4.

  3. I also taught my self the arts of sniping with a crossbow, (which I stole from a noble).

    +1 DM brownie points, though if I ever get PC he will be that noble.

    And you guys don't have to tell your backstory here if you don't want to. You'll get to tell it to everyone else in the bar.

    Oh, and so far Jek Jek Roo is the only person to have their ability scores right.

    Ninja:

    9 =1

    18=16

    10=2

    9 =1

    14=6

    12=4

    total = 30

    Thadeus:

    18=16

    13=5

    12=4

    10=2

    10=2

    12=4

    total = 33

    Whooves:

    12 =4

    14=6

    14=6

    14=6

    14=6

    14=6

    total = 34

    And Ikthias, of all people.

    10=2

    12=4

    14=6

    18=16

    10=2

    10=2

    total = 32

    EDIT: Also can someone do Whooves a favor and put his stuff on a character sheet for him?

  4. My vote is that Jake, Thadeus, and Ikthias already know each other (mage, healer, tank, pretty basic group anyhoo) and the rest meet them there.

    Just a suggestion.

    And about what Ikthias said, I will wait until Monday to look over all the number stuff, but the story will start as soon as everyone is up to speed on who their character is (this includes people who haven't posted here in 3 pages).

  5. I went to an IB school. I dropped Full IB as soon as I had a decent excuse.

    Though I had a classmate going to Harvard and another going to Stanford from a public school, so they have a point.

    Still, it's rough stuff man.

  6. Whatever backstory you want, man, I'll work around it. Your backstory is yours. You all get to decide how you got to that bar.

    Okay, tomorrow I will make the second thread. And help Psycho ninja. And come up with a campaign. And do anything else you guys need that doesn't require Steam chat. I have no plans for tomorrow, besides making snickerdoodles.

  7. I suggest that once we get things going we make a seperate thread for the adventure and keep this tread as a help/discussion thread, that sound good?

    Probably a good idea.

    I might as well make that right away then, and make the first page basically be a page with references to tools, character sheets and such?

    I don't think so. We want to get all out players lined up. It would just sit there until everyone's ready. The first post will be tools, sheets, the players, the characters, maybe the setting and a few rules, then the second post will be the start of the campaign.

    Also I should make it, being the DM and all.

    Ninja'd by JJR (I need to type faster). I will work around whatever you want to do, I'm a writer after all. We'll be starting in a bar, as per regulation, and it's up to you if you want to meet everyone there or be hanging out with them already.

    BTW, it's 2:30 AM here, I'll be going to sleep soon.

    Ninja'd by... ninja. Yes, you can be an archer-thief. Just go rogue. There is no arche class, but you can specialize in them via feats and such.

  8. If it says they are offline and they have no avatar, block and unblock them. If it says they are offline and they have their avatar, they are either actually offline or you have a different problem.

    Also yay! That would mean all of the D&D players have Steam chat.

  9. Sure. Jake and Felix will go by similar names, Thadeus will go by his name, Ikthias and Srake could go by their names, and Psychotic Ninja will go by anything but that unless he has a custom ninja class with a wisdom of 8 and chaotic alignment.

    (That was a joke, you don't need to roleplay as a psychotic ninja)

    Oh, and I will be calling you by your character names for the most part, as in, "Felix, roll your die" or "it's Jake's turn." Once we get going, there is no Whooves, and there is no Jek Jek Roo.

  10. I just remembered I have a character creation thingy on a CD that I got from my player's handbook back in middle school. Now I almost want to make a PC just so I can use it.

    And just because it keeps coming up: When in doubt, go to the wiki. It's in the first post, on the first page, go there and check.

    If you're still in doubt, ask someone on Steam or send a PM. I'll be checking over everyone's stuff anyway, and minor mistakes are acceptable. But lime I said, I don't like being tricked.

    Ninja'd by Ikthias. That is what I meant, though I did not explain it well. That chart is on a per-ability/attribute basis.

    For example, these are all legit scores:

    13, 13, 13, 13, 12, 12

    14, 14, 12, 12, 12, 12

    18, 16, 10, 8, 8, 8

    18, 14, 12, 9, 9, 8

    16, 14, 14, 12, 10, 8

  11. So, since we've got a new DM I feel I should ask again, are custom/open source races/classes allowed as long as they aren't broken?

    Yes, but please run it by me first. I'm fairly chill about letting people have fun, but I don't like having the wool pulled over my eyes (not that I don't trust you, just precaution).

    Ok im just restating this for everyone (including the DM) knows how we are doing stat builds

    We each start with 8 str, 8 dex, 8 con, 8 int, 8 wis, 8 cha

    with a max of 18 (during character creation)

    from there we have 28 build points

    the first 6 point in any given stat cost 1 build point

    after that, the next 2 stat points cost 2 build points

    and the last 2 stat points cost 3 build points

    so if i wanted to raise one stat to 18, i would spend 16 build points, with 12 left to spend

    i hope this simplifies things, it also prevents players from having rediculous stat builds, making it fair for everyone

    I looked it over again after Psycho Ninja said he needed help. IO like the system, though I usually like more randomness in the mix. Anyway, here's a chart.

    9 = 1 point

    10 = 2 points

    11 = 3

    12 = 4

    13 = 5

    14 = 6

    15 = 8

    16 = 10

    17 = 13

    18 = 16

    >18= 29

    you have 28 points to spend

    Ninja'd by Srake. First page/OP has links to the wiki and character sheets. We are going by 3rd edition because it's free. I am DM, Jek Jek is probably a cleric, Thadeus is a half-elf fighter, Ikthais is a necromancer (or as I call it, a wizard who specializes in necromancy), Whooves is a wizard, Psychotic ninja is still building his character. Neither paladin nor ranger is taken. That necromancer could make things awkward for Paladins since they are naturally very against dark magic, but I'm not one to bring that kind of limiting, boring stuff into play unless it adds something of value.

    Ninja'd while editing to correct for ninjaing. Damn.

    Yes, undead can be your favored enemy, and it would make for some interesting conversations with Ikthias.

  12. Necromancers are wizards that specialized in Necromancy, so technically its their class

    im almost done with my character sheet, ill email it to you when ive made it perfect

    But there are also home-made and version 3.5 classes that are just necromancers, not wizards specializing in necromancy. But okay, now that's cleared up.

    Oh, and you guys can start making up backstories if you want. You don't need to post it, at least not yet, but it's always fun to come up with one.

  13. Few things:

    1. The rules JJR had are pretty solid, I don't quite get how you guys are doing attributes, but I'm not making a character so I'll just trust you all not to lie to me.

    2. I'm not sure how to do this over the forum, but I have some theories and we'll see how it goes. At least we all are all active around the same time it seems

    3. Ikthias, are you a necromancer class or just a wizard specializing in necromancy?

    4. Whooves do you have a specialization, or are you just winging it as a wizard? If so, I might suggest going sorcerer, it's easier to keep track of and a little less restrictive.

    5. Our party balance is pretty good. We have a healer (assuming JJR is using his cleric), a fighter/tank, and two squishy wizards. There may be some overlap in usefulness of having two wizards, just keep that in mind. Psychotic Ninja can really be anything.

    6. Are all of your characters pretty much just your forum names? It would make things less confusing but could lessen some of the roleplaying.

    7. I'm away form my house for the weekend, but Monday I'll pull up my books and Steam chat with anyone I need to.

  14. I'll be DM, I guess. I've done it before, kind of . Me and some friends had the idea of rolling a die to see who was going to DM, leave the room for 10 minutes, then coming back and start a campaign; it was loads of hectic fun and improvising.

    But okay, I shall be GM. The crossbows will have to wait.

    Gimme a little bit to look over the rules you guys had. Also, ikthais is necromancer a custom class, or just an evil cleric? Also you know you won't be able to raise anything but, like, some rats until you level up majorly.

  15. Skill points don't come until much later. You need to decide/discover your int modifier, then you get a certain number of skill points depending on that and your class, plus if you're a human you get extra.

    Fuck, I'm going to have to join this aren't I? I don't even remember pulling out my 3rd edition Player's Handbook, it just appeared as soon as I clicked this thread. Also it seems like I'm the only guy here who's played this before IRL, on several occasions as both DM and PC, though I've never had a character go above level 4.

    Also, I will be a ranger who specializes in crossbows.

  16. waiting for someone to do something on the forum. It's like a ghost town here.

    Go to the gaming section, you'll see that some of us are setting up a game of D&D, there is still time to join in

    But I don't go on the Forum Games because it's such a time watser. But I have gotten some spare time as of late. But I'm starting a game irl as soon as I move back to college. But they have different rulebooks than me, and this is the veriosn I own.

    My mind's telling me no, but my body... my body's telling me yeaAaAh.

    OT: Making a decision.
