Regrettable as it is it does not surprise me. Russians are throwing the book at Obama, basically saying that if he won't get a UN approval first, any strikes will be unlawful. Which, technically, is correct, of course.

 

There are two main reasons why the Russians are doing that - one, they are trying to protect Assad as when the fun will start, it will be very difficult to exclude a possibility of a stray missile suddenly hitting him on the head - purely by accident, mind! And - two, they will try to be as obstinate with the US as possible given the treatment they've received with Ukraine.

 

Surely, the Americans can be trusted to do likewise with anything that Russia will do...

One would hope even Putin would approve of airskrikes in Syria, considering his buddy (Assad) is in real hot water and ISIS made a point of stating Russia is next. Alas, Russia jumps off the slippery slope.

As for Assad having an "accident", I'd say the country would end up the better for kt. His management of the war right now is horrible.

Quite the opposite. It was exactly like a discussion between a CEO of a large corporation and her No.2 about some management reshuffling in one of the regional sales departments. They've agreed who should be promoted, who - sidelined and then simply agreed who will break the news to whom. And lo and behold - that's exactly what's happened afterwards.

You obviously haven't been paying any attention to the wording they use when talking about the two sides of the political spectrum... They use many less than obvious psychological tactics in their writing that praises liberals, and condemns conservatives.

I probably misread this guy's character (paranoia on my part), but the phone call is still merely a discussion on who would be the most favorable man for the US in terms of friendly and not an evil dictatorship, and discussing candidates who could be alternatives to "Yats". Again, they never gave an indication that they were puppeteers.

Out of all the news hubs I mentioned, the only one that's "liberal" is CNN, while BBC and Reuters are simply centrists (but as truthful as possible). The term "liberal media" is largely a fear mongering tactic used by the Tea Party, GOP, Fox, and many on the right wing.
