  1. I notice you're saying that in a way that would imply to most that the left doesn't do that... In fact they do it far more, and far worse than the right ever could. (95% of mass media is controlled by the extremest left)

Are you kidding me? America is dominated by conservatives. If the extreme left control 95% of the media, how can an organization like Fox News attract so many viewers, and become "mainstream"? Name three major leftist radio commentators, for that matter.

America is not fully "dominated" by anyone.

You have CNN (fairly liberal) and MSNBC (very liberal) as two cable channels against Fox news already. Add on top of that the "big 3" original nightly news show, and you have an uninspiring picture if you are a right wing person.

If conservatives "dominated" America, like you said, then why are states gradually legalizing same sex marriage, and why do the Democrats still control the Presidency and Senate (sure, it's not total control, but it's not nothing either)?

Maybe I can't name you three radio commentators, but that is just a matter of media. How about TV or movies, or print/web media? Bill Maher, Ariana Huffington, and Michael Moore, to name a few?

    As for Fox News,

Last I made a glance, Fox only had around 1 million viewers now.

In a nation of 310 million.

When I said dominated, I meant majority (even if by a slim minority). I was also trying to prove a point with BTG and his claim that 95% of the media is in leftist control. Additionally, your new comments now give me a better understanding of what exactly is going on.

  3. What I meant to say on the matter of the xenizens teleporting out of nowhere is the fact that they can teleport right in front of your face without warning, and you can't shoot me down when I made the valid point that the HECU, HAD NO IDEA they were just waltzing into a massacre. They were not expecting to be confronted with aliens in any way. According to the intro scene to "opposing force" they all thought it was either a training mission or a "babysitting job" that is until the manta ray came down on top of one of their ospreys and turned it into nothing but burnt shrapnel.

Well of course they weren't ready for aliens (although they were supposedly supposed to be briefed when they landed in Black Mesa). Also, while yes, the aliens can teleport right in front of you, the fact that it's so uncoordinated and random means that this is unreliable for the Xen forces (if a paratrooper drop lands the troops damn near everywhere, is it as effective as a more concentrated drop?).

I also read your thread and along with all those facts you HAVE to put in the fact that the HECU had no clue what to expect out of black mesa, whether it was a terrorist attack, a containment breach, or...oh yeah, an alien invasion consisting of almost millions of different species both wildlife and military forces including the devastating gargantua and his miniature counterparts (alien grunts). They completely destroyed their numbers and I'm pretty sure that instead of killing all of the black mesa personnel they would rescue them, evacuate, THEN drop a nuke on the xenizens, but that would still leave the portals coming since the nihilanth is back in xen.

"Completely destroyed their numbers"? I think not. Also, while the portal rift would remain open, the fact that the rift area is in a radiation zone means the Xen forces would be confined to the remains of Black Mesa (well, most of them).

Another thing is that you said alien civilizations would be much older than us therefor, more advanced. Just because they're aliens doesn't mean that their species is older than us. They could be aliens and STILL have a lower technology grade than us. Just because they are aliens doesn't mean that they HAVE to abide by sci-fi rules, they could be an Egyptian-ish civilization and still be beings of another planet/dimension.

Your point is true. Which would be more likely to make first contact with us and/or invade us in seven hours though? The one with swords, or the ones with FTL tech and weaponry beyond ours?

  4. Well, the Republicans don't just get their votes from the white supremacy crowd. In fact, they more often get their votes by attacking anyone to the political left of them, through "Red Fear" tactics. this in turn causes policies to help the poor getting stalled in Congress, or not even passing. A good example of a Republican playing off racial AND economic tension is Rush Limbaugh.

  5. The main problem in the USA isn't racial in origin, but economical... Race is just a convenient excuse for people (not you, but the people actually causing the problems) to avoid the underlying issues.

I would say a lot of people (of all races, left wing and right wing) have a lot of money to make by exploiting racial tensions amongst Americans.

Though I honestly think tensions would still exist even without them. It is just made much worse by agitators.

Well, of course race is economical. What southern Dixiecrat/Republican extremist wouldn't say "I might be poor, but I'm not poor like blacks are" or "I earned my money, not like those Jews!" or even "At least I don't collect welfare, like those damn illegals". The far right (aka KKK, Nazis, fascists) like to add to tension, and the far left (communists) try to influence the oppressed to rise up. Thankfully, these nutjobs are pretty much harmless.

  6. I think making a big affair of any kind of straight, homo or bi sexuality is a waste of time. We're all imprinted with sex in our brains and that's the biggest thing. If we treated it as a part of life, like eating, the world would be a much nicer place to be.

Sad how we can't explain this to assholes like Fred Phelps.

  7. 1) wildlife: In world war 2 the Germans would send out German Shepards as attack dogs. Also these creatures are not like ordinary earth wildlife, these animals can be used for great purposes rather than dogs and badgers. headcrabs can control the brains of their host bodies, houndeyes (in numbers) have a devastating shock wave that can kill anything in a few blasts, and bullsquids have a ranged acid spit attack along with a devastating tail swipe. (which we all know the tip of the tail is barbed, except in black mesa for some reason.)

I have yet to see the Xenians actually domesticate their wildlife for effective use. Here is an example of this: when the Combine used headcrab shells, they weren't able to control them from the minute they came out of the shell. Also, while yes the Germans used dog for attack purposes, do you really expect those dogs to survive against rifle fire, let alone machine guns and mortars? And lastly, there is no definite proof bullsquid spit is acidic.

    2) alien invasions: "I guess humans are much more efficient at invading than aliens are." WRONG, freeman might not have noticed it since he is underground all the time, but the HECU were caught in the middle of a massacre, I mean the xenizens can teleport out of friggin' nowhere, plus the fact that the HECU were expecting a HUMAN attack instead of fighting aliens. Also how he said he thought aliens would be much more advanced than humans. Whatever he is smoking I am pretty sure everyone else wants some. Every species has a starting point for civilizations. The xenizens do not have that good of technology, yet they still managed to kill more than a hundred united states marines. Another thing is that he will be eating his words once he finds out the combine came and took earth in a matter of seven hours, than we'll be judging the invasion quality of the xenizens.

If you really want to know why the HECU were devastated at Black Mesa, read my thread called "The Incompetence of the HECU". It is quite detailed. Your comment on how xenians can "teleport out of nowhere" is flawed. The xenians were only able to teleport across the Earth by HL2 was due to portal storms, while in the original Half Life they are confined to Black Mesa. Your thoughts on his "advanced aliens" statement are also unrealistic, considering most alien civilizations have probably been around much longer than us, giving an idea they have better technology than us. Your statement on how the xenians killed over one hundred marines is also redundant; if a group of terrorists in Iraq can do it in Fallujah, I think Xen aliens can do it too (especially considering Xen casualties in return). Lastly, the Combine invasion was won so quickly was due to decades, probably centuries of vastly superior technology and the element of surprise, which had little to nothing to do with Xen aliens.

  8. I won't comment too much on the race tension issue (I live in the US as well, and I can say it *does* exist), but I will say globalization has caused economic trends, such as increasing economic inequality, trends towards over specialization, etc, that reduce economic well being for many people, helping to give a breeding ground for radical action.

Ah, it makes a little more sense now, but if you know things about this race tension, you should say it.

  9. Shit's going to happen, but exactly what I can't tell. I can guess the Syrian civil war is going to worsen, and a civil war might occur in the Ukraine, but I have yet to see this as a product of globalization, or race tension in the US (and I live there, so I should know).

  10.

Or what about if person Y makes a video, and person X, who he knows in real life, makes a trolly comment. Y gets mad, breaks into the local firestation, and steals a chainsaw (not that logger BS either, we're talking composite bladed Firefighter quality saw), and proceeds to X's house to.... do the deed.

I applaud Y's efforts. Trolling is a disease of the Internet, a cancer.

Should I take that as support for Google + then? :P

As long as trolls are gone (dead or living). Just keep in mind the trolling problem existed before Google +'s efforts.

  12. Well, what you said is true, but with the technology we have and the little amount of formal training the enemy had, 5000 is still a high body count. It's awful that anyone loses their life for their country when they aren't really even helping their country with anything. The whole war was a political catastrophe brought on by 9/11 and the supposed WMD's we never found. When the war started, it had a great amount of public support because of the 9/11 incidents. But after that, nobody cared. We should've pulled out by '06-'07 at the latest. It's a shame it lasted so long. And we still have the Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Egypt, and Syria crises left that we need to get through (hopefully without putting troops in harm's way)

No, my thoughts at the time was that 5,000 dead was a small number, a very cold and cruel thought process. I guess I was trying to make it seem like we could win an unwinnable conflict, while at the same time save lives. The recent conflicts (most notably the recent uprising in Iraq and the ongoing civil war in Syria) convinced me the shit happening in the Middle East is unavoidable.

  13. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Wait... just what was really gained from the war?.

Angry families, dead soldiers, insane debt and the contempt and mockery from almost every single other country on this Earth. Least we finally stopped all this silliness and can move on.

There were only 4700 dead soldiers in the Iraq War. That is a small number all things considered. The public overhyped each death as if each one were a suprise. Although I agree the Iraq War probably caused an insane finacial crisis that crippled the econemy.

Man, I was an asshole. What I believe in now is the complete opposite of this bullshit.

  14. As for the U.N. stuff... Go watch Black Hawk Down... (the U.N. troops refused to let more than the "maximum recommended occupancy" to ride in their APCs, even though it was live fire combat) I knew the family of one of the guys that died in that mission... The U.N. troops don't care about others in the warzones they occupy, only themselves.

This is an argument for criminal incompetence, not low morale.
