I wouldn't say the Game Dungeon is exclusive to 90's titles. I think it's more for games that are somewhat obscure, or not what most other reviewers have likely reviewed.

I also wouldn't put modern and well-known games out of the question, but they'll have been well-covered by other people. Like, they would still be decent GD episodes, but they're probably not really needed. That's why FNAF - while rich with lore - won't be GD'd.

I don't see why people aren't liking this episode. It was quality Ross Scott as ever. The April Fools joke of Pumpkin heads and the fact he reviewed the *other* Wolfenstein was great.

I felt the pumpkins were a great idea, even if it was only for the headshot gag. I assume it's a cheat or a mod, but I was secretly hoping for variation, in that not all NPCs have pumpkins. Some would have eggplants, onions, lemons, etc.

In fact, GD'ing it with cheats on and acting as if the cheats were normal would be brilliant!

This proves that a GD on a well-known modern game is still an effective GD.

If I had to make a suggestion about GD, I would say: keep the focus on old/obscure games as usual, but periodically do a GD on something more recent and popular. This could possibly bring a lot more attention to the series and the Channel. I don't know if that seems sell-out-ish, but it could be beneficial.
