Was No Man's SKy doomed to fail?
Selfsurprise replied to Psychotic Ninja's topic in Gaming in general
I'm glad that I somewhat overlooked this game as news about it trickled out of the media outlets, I was probably too distracted by the immanent arrival of Fallout 4 is something. It's a game that, on paper at least, sounds like a dream-come-true for a titanic exobiology nerd like me. Having only recently been made aware of the stellar (herp derp) heights this game's expectation soared to, it has rather cooled my initial excitement. I was also put off from considering a purchase of the game due to reports of it's hideous fanbase - I'm always afraid of being associated with hateful internet subcultures. Yet you can still colour me intrigued by it's premise. The unfavorable comparisons to Minecraft do little to diminish my enthusiasm for wanting to play the title, because in all honesty I have very little experience with those types resource/building games that popular consensus has a conceptual boner right now. I feel I can probably wait a little while and see if second-hand copies of the game go down in price. This quote is very prescient of the current capitalist zeitgeist. A lot of people might have their own strange vested interests in exaggerating the implied agenda of Hello Games, the whole "did they/didn't they" aspect of the controversy, but 2016 has been a year of deeply suspect moves on the gaming industries part. Whilst I'm dubious of the conspiratorial readings of No Man's Sky's reception and hype, it seems fairly evident through the interviews of the Director Sean Murray and other journalism that allowed an incredulous public imagination wander, there was a certain level of "chancing" and coyness from the developers. -
How fucked is the human race
Selfsurprise replied to GolfClubNinja's topic in Serious Topic Discussion
Alyxx's point reminds me of a particular anthropological definition of natural selection I've heard of, that species (or societies, cultures, etc) don't have to "fail" in the immediate sense in order to go extinct, they merely have to "less successful" generationally. It really depends how you want to define how or why the human race is "fucked", "fucked" as in no longer existent or "fucked" as in a degraded situation. The fortunes of nations and polities wax and wane, but for a species of our diverse ways and means there will be inevitable survivals, rude forms and adaptations. -
I saw this on the news yesterday and thought it might be worthwhile bringing up, assuming it doesn't descend into a unhelpful flamewar. If you aren't what event I'm referring to, please read this article. It's all rather indicative of what an absolute mess the unresolved situation in Calais has become. What strikes me most is the way Western Europe (I'm speaking largely of Britain, Germany, not least France itself!) has collectively shrugged off any responsibility to committing to a wholesale resettlement of migrants, and yet at the very same instance in regards to the so-called 'Jungle' camp failed to impose any kind of substantial policing or logistical planning. I'm willing to admit that my interpretation might stem from my own distance of the events in topic, but I can't help thinking that Europe seemingly doesn't want to offer any serious aid (sans the great work done by understandably inundated charities) nor is it seemingly willing to take charge of the escalating problems - presumably out a misplaced sense of political correctness or antithetically out of a sense of border protectionism. I'm mildly worried that my somewhat leftist orientation is clouding the fact that I actually feel a great deal of sympathy for the Calais protesters, as much as I do for the overwhelming majority migrants/refugees/choose-your-own-status-etc. They've had to deal with the human crisis of the Syrian diaspora on their doorstep, and the towns inexorable reputational trashing will surely hamper its future aspirations and economy. At the very least why aren't we seeing more action being taken against the actual traffickers and organized criminals preying off the situation? If we must demonize somebody, why not accuse those individuals instead of making scapegoats of millions of displaced people and resorting to terrifyingly archaic nationalist politics? I apologize for the long-ish and rather rambling tone of this thread, I've been away from the internet for a while and I'm slightly out of practice.

1001 Enemies That Ought To Be In A Fallout Game
Selfsurprise replied to Selfsurprise's topic in Gaming in general
26. Knuckle Dragger Theorized to be the product of stem cell research and the preservation/revival of organic materials, Knuckle Draggers are most likely the adaption of a self-propelling laboratory bred limb that ought to have been disposed of upon creation. Resembling a kind of radially symmetrical arrangement of five overdeveloped, club-like and distressingly human-like "arms" (like some bizarre land-bound parody of a starfish) these dangerous monsters lack any discernible sensory organs or orifices that any natural mammalian creature would require in order to survive. They are believed to be extraordinarily sensitive to vibrations caused by sound and movement, giving them an unerring ability to orientate themselves and hunt prey despite their apparent lack of senses. Two distinctive varieties of Knuckle Dragger have been documented by "experts in the field". There is a larger more solitary hairless species of Knuckle Dragger in possession of prodigious strength and resistance to injury, as well as slightly smaller but alacritous hirsute species that typicaly operate in small packs of four to six individuals. 27. Mitsukurina Sapiens ("Shark Goblins") Undisputable masters of surviving in irradiated waters, Shark Goblins have an origin as mysterious as the aforementioned Bull Terrier Folk (see #6). It is unknown whether they were the product of genetic meddling or some extraordinary mutation, Shark Goblins are amphibious short-statured humanoids believed to to have evolved from the Japanese Goblin Shark who migrated to relatively less austere environment of the Commonwealth. They have developed have a distinctive culture and a unique racial weather-based animist religion in which rain, storms, clouds, lightning, sunlight, wind and much more besides are given personalities and aspects over the Goblin Shark lives, and of course over all living creatures and peoples of the wastes. Despite their fearsome appearance and reputation thanks to unfortunate human bias, the Goblin Sharks are a overwhelmingly peaceful people and prefer quiet introspection to combat. -

How on earth did I forget about this thread? @ Woah G: Are these lyrics? If so I'm afraid not familiar with the band or song in question. I quite like that it's seemingly putting Sadeian philosophy under scrutiny but I'm picking up a faintly evangelical tone of disapproval too, I'd have prefered something more rigorously critical. The arrangement is nice though so it can claw back a few points for that. I'll give it a 6/10. ~ "The fact that modern women are frustrated by being forced to choose between being an Athena ̶ an intellectual, asexual career woman ̶ or an Aphrodite ̶ a frivolous sex object ̶ or a respectable wife-mother like Hera shows that Greek goddesses continue to be archetypes for female existence. If the characteristics of the major goddesses were combined, a whole being with unlimited potential for development ̶ a female equivalent of Zeus or Apollo ̶ would emerge." - Sarah B. Sony announce that they are producing a narrative-heavy RPG quadrilogy spinoff of the Soul Calibur games, based on the adventures of the character Olcadan. hTY_VbmNG_s jpcz5CHHw5I Seriously, somebody came up with this character. He was actually in a game, which was quite a popular series if I recall correctly. That means potentially hundreds upon thousands of people saw, fought against and/or played as Olcadan at some point in their lives. It's actually quite awe-inspiring when you think about it. I might add Olcadan to my list of things that should survive long after the human race has gone extinct.

Granted, but now everything in the world that wasn't anime is now anime. Conversely everything that was anime is now a painting by Andre Butzer. I wish I could turn into a giant skull-kraken at will.

I thought Batman was invincible and could fly? He's the one that wears the blue suit with an 'S' on it, right? Batman is immune is bullets Ninja. I don't know what you are doing wrong. I keep failing the intimidation dialogue attempts in Fallout 4. Any tips on how I can make my character scarier?

Silent Batman? But in all seriousness, that gives me an idea... Batman: Arkham Knight + Silent Hill 3 = Silent Hill: Sisyphean Happiness The latest installment of the Silent Hill franchise, SH:SH draws heavily on the modern day veneration of perceived heroes (whether fictional or real) as well as the Albert Camus book The Myth of Sisyphus, which he examines the idea that mankind's liberation lies in the very act of struggling against hardship. The narrative centres on a young, slightly awkward woman whose veneration of comic book heros has subsumed all her worldly interests, family life and responsibilities and left her with an indelible depressive outlook. Angered at the complexity of an unjust reality she delves deeper into personal fantasy where justice is simple and morality black and white. She soon finds however that her daydream world of caped crusaders and dastardly villains stained by her repressed negativity, and increasingly her ability to distinguish the imaginary from the everyday dissolves into transitive nothingness. The result is two worlds; the first resembling a grim fogbound purgatory devoid of other souls, save from enigmatic glimpses of strangely dressed figures and their mysterious leavings; the second is an utterly corrupt and hellish parody of a 20th century metropolis populated by obscenely attired monsters espousing obsolete idioms in guttural voices.

I get the feeling hell will be like this for me. Every few centuries I might be able to get my desperate paws on something delicious. I'll stumble upon a fish and chips outlet and seemingly everything will be in order, but then to my abject terror I'll find out that they HAVE NO SAVELOYS...

I really dislike the word philately. I don't know why but I can't shake this peculiar feeling that it ought to mean something other than what it actually means. Philately is the proper name given to the hobby of stamp collecting, but it sounds like the kind of weird overtly specific adjective that you'll never find yourself needing. It apparently derives from a French stamp collector named Georges Herpin who combined the latin philo ("love") with ateleia ("free from tax") because the latter was the closest ancient Greek equivalent he could find for something describing a postage stamp. Even knowing that the word sounds and looks off to me. Drei sounds more badass anyway. I personally don't get the snobbery and derision levelled at the German language, it's an utterly unique mixture of the subtle and guttural that you don't quite see observe in other languages, even other European tongues. How can anybody dislike a language that contains word such as kreaturegefühl and lumpenproletariat. Philistines! No offense but did you completely miss the part where ninja didn't respond to me? Looks like somebody could do with a holiday from the internet. But seriously, you know if you go onto a forum user's profile and look just below their avatar you'll see [add friend]/[add foe] buttons. If you and Ninja add each other as foes neither one of you will be able to see each others posts.

I can definitely envision Drake Edgewater having Ross/Freeman's voice, although I get the feeling each episode would be an absolute shouting match between Drake and the entire world It cold work if each episode were shorter and there was a lot of them. Strife Guy would probably sound like Doom Guy except with a much more altruistic personality. I'm sure he'd still be screaming though.

Certainly the overwhelming majority of his videos are Fallout related, but there's so much more going on in his channel. A good place to start are his Indie Sunday videos. Not only will you get to see some very obscure (and often extremely broken) games but he usually spends most of the "review" espousing some spiralling nonsensical tale and/or playing some absurd character he has just made-up seemingly on the spot.
