What drew me to Tres-Bashers was how it exudes 8-bit charm. And its no bait-and-switch. Its just all charm, all the way, all day. Its not really scary, but does certain things to surprise you, and some monsters feel creepy. The controls are a bit slippery, and x-box control only is no good, and not being able to turn around when your flashlight is out is finnicky, but thats all I got. Tres-Bashers is really recommendable if you like crunchy pixels and can tolerate less than optimal movement. Its a metroidvania, and the world is mapped out in a clever way to obfuscate the layout, so exploration is deeply encouraged, but not painful. The map isn't so convoluted that you have a hard time, and in addition each area borders each other in a way that makes the world feel logical. So when you go off the screen in one certain area, and suddenly find your way back to somewhere you've been before, you'll most likely go "oooooh, so THATs where this area is". Movement upgrades is cool and even has some movement tech that really surprised me, in a good way. Combat feels appropriately hectic, like a brawl that gets a bit out of hand. So yeah, this is excellent. I love Tres-Bashers. Just so much charm.
