CIA Analysis Of The War Of 1812 Finds Same Failures That Led To 9/11

I'm not sure what to take from this. What I'm leaning towards is that this kind of surprise attack is unpredictable. Whilst in retrospect, you could look at what was going on before the event and wonder why someone didn't see it coming, that's called the hindsight bias.

Ultimately, I think it comes from not wanting to believe that a disaster on that scale can happen. We see this all the time on smaller scales: "Why should I look both ways before crossing? The chances of being run over are-" SPLAT.

What do you think?

Isn't it always happening like that?

The Dutch raid on Medway, the invasions of Russia by Napoleon (also in 1812, by the way) and by Hitler, ISIS offensive in Iraq...

Regards
