So Point Defiance somehow acquired or discovered time travel some time after 2001. They then presumably used the Polaris Snowcross soundtrack change as a test for changing things in the past. One band member probably had misgivings about keeping the time travel device secret, and maybe threatened to tell someone. The rest of the band killed him to keep him quiet and dumped his bones off the coast near Point Defiance park. These bones were found a decade later and the whole story was pieced together on a video review of a snowmobile video game.

I played through the end of HL1 recently, and it occurs to me now that you're cutting out the ambient voice clips from the Nihilanth (The ones that say things like "Die now" and "We are their slaves") Any particular reason for that?

Good idea with making freeman high. 57 episodes of shouting high strung freeman was probably enough. Look forward to seeing this side of his character. Great episode.
And remember that while some people might be annoyed you're taking a break from FM, I personally am really happy to hear we're going to get new Game Dungeon episodes.

Ross, I went ahead and did a test in After Effects using a 60 fps capture in HL2 and high density vector tracking motion blur. I think the only issue is the processing time. As AE renders out the video it spends a while on each frame figuring out the motion vectors.

While I have no problem whatsoever with you getting a lot of money Ross, a 1 Terabyte SSD costs about 100$ in the states.Where on earth did you find a deal like that? The cheapest I can find doing a cursory look around is around 500.

I asked this as a comment on the youtube video, but I guess I'll suggest it here as well. Have you tried running a lower framerate capture through After Effects CC's pixel motion blur. It's a pretty decent option I think.

This was actually a really top notch episode. You do somehow keep coming up with new ways to weave humor into these situations.

It gets even worse in Black Mesa, or at least it feels like it. There though you can at least see the mines and trigger them with grenades. That's how I cleared my way through it; I threw grenades and took out enough to make a path.
Ummm, you can trigger them by shooting them with the pistol. You don't have to waste your grenades...

Looking forward to Freeman's reaction to the laser mine warehouse in the next episode. Great episode as always Ross.

Just finished this, as my first real project in SFM:

I guess I'll throw in my own opinion that Journey is indeed one of the most beautiful and moving games I've played in years.
Spoilers of the ending:
The very ending, climbing up the windy mountain slopes with my loyal partner was crazy. The wind kept trying to blow us apart from each other, but we kept finding each other again. Then suddenly the other guy falls down dead. I stick around for a few seconds and make some chirping noises at him. I give up and go on, only to fall down dead too. Then suddenly the ending scene happens and we're both soaring up to the mountain. We both walk into the mountain canyon all slow and it fades to white. Definitely one of my favorite endings ever.

The SFM seems very user friendly to me. Note that if you're going for true quality, it's a very slow process, but hey, that's animation.
Here's the first thing I made with it. Note that just this 8 seconds of solid character animating took 8-10 hours to do manually.

Dammit Valve! Give me my Source Filmmaker beta!
Last night I emailed the SFM team telling them why I deserve to be in the beta, and today I got in. I'd suggest doing the same if you think you're very qualified. Keep in mind though, there's no invite process. The SFM just showed up in my games list this afternoon with no message from Valve.

Got a new copy of Deus Ex:HR for 20 bucks. Feels nice to get a sealed retail game for a third the original price.
On the other hand, wtf is with this boss fight? I've been playing the entire game so far focusing on stealth, and I have nothing to defend myself.

The boss fights were handled by an external studio who had no clue about what the game was like.
In other words, they more or less force you to kill them.
I gonna give some tips for each boss, you probably dont need them but still:
General:
Even if you are going non-lethal/stealth, you should always gear up for the worst, so take some Frag Grenades, they barely take space in your inventory, deal a lot of damage and stun enemies they arent able to kill in one hit, bosses for instance.
Barret:
If you have Frag grenades, he is a piece of cake since he barely moves, so just keep throwing them at him until he dies; however, if you dont have frag grenades, he gets a little overwhelming, still he is very simple to beat, firearms will be worthless against him, so dont even try, run to cover and wait until he have to cool down his machine gun, then find some gas canisters (there are several in the room)and throw them at him, or use your own gas grenades, even through they are kinda rare in this part of the game, gas is his "weakness", it will stun him for quite an awhile, then, just get the explosive barrels that are around the room and throw them at him, piece of cake.
Yelena:
She is considered by far the easiest boss, why? Because even if you are going non-lethal/stealth, you will probably have EMP grenades, those are her weakness, just throw 1 at her and them unload your strongest weapons and throw some frag grenades, she will most likely die
Namir:
This guy can be a real pain in the ass, he is fast, strong and has one of the best weapons in the game, he have no weakness, so he is meant to be hard, however, a "glitch" in the takedown system allows you to finish him off with a single takedown, you just have to use the takedown button while he jumps over one of the walls in the room.
This video will show the glitch:

Btw, congrats on getting you engineer weapon set featured in the steam workshop, Eedo.
I've just been switching difficulty down to the lowest when playing bosses and then switching it back up. Managed to beat the invisible woman by inhaling 3 painkillers and unloading a nearby heavy rifle.
And thanks about my items. I'm pleased.

Finished this item set for the workshop, for Engi. Been working on it since before the pyromania update.

I'm going to make a post with some news on stuff probably tomorrow, I'll talk more about it then. The short version is that I'm skeptical as to how functional this will be outside of a TF2 environment and if it has anything to offer over UDK.
The video showed that it was used to create the trailers for Portal 2, Dota 2 and L4D2, so I think it can really be applied to any Source assets.

It really looks like an excellent and very streamlined tool.
-
I thought it was excellent. Really, compared the the others in the series, this is one of the best in terms of creativity.
-
They also just released the beta of the Source Filmmaker. Ross should definitely take a look.
-
Hm, that first image... Larate is mentioned by the Adventure Sphere in Portal 2.
-
The new gameplay stuff tells me that this game might be a return to form for the single player FPS genre.
-
Spent three hours working on this Portal 2 map in the new level creator and it's getting completely ignored...

Just got Vagrant Story for 6 bucks on the PS3 digital store. Not generally a big JRPG fan, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Kudos Ross, and thanks for the years of free entertainment. Looking forward to a 2015 filled with Game Dungeon.
