It really does try to be 2D Dark Souls. I am not a master of the 2D platformer so all I can say is that it felt like combat was missing something that made it satisfying to pour my hours into.

    Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Just like the Baldur's Gate you knew but now with a shiny coat of paint, plus it's balanced. This is good or bad depending on how you view your TT RPGs.

    Rimworld

Bit of a steep learning curve but will give several hundred hours of tinkering with your group of survivors.

    Frostpunk

A strange and satisfying take on city builders. Probably my favorite game of that year and one of the few that pushed me to try the harder difficulties. I don't know what it is about that studio but it sure is good at gamifying sweeping moral choices. The soundtrack is phenomenal.
