Not Technically related to hardware, but monitors use LED's and this thing took quite a bit of money to make.

 

Official Name: Sunbright Flashlight in a Compact Box.

Unofficial Name: The Blinder.

About $200 was spent for me to build it.

Took about 48 hours total to make.

I should also mention that my pocket camera gave me a red error for some reason after this shot.

I made one of these for an out-door camera once, not exactly like yours but the same general concept. I used IR LEDs instead, though, since it only needed the light at night and no one else needed to know it was on.
