I always imagine him just kind of thinking about it for a while, and then he says fuck it and jumps in without listening to what gman is saying at all.

Freeman has the illusion of free choice. Even if he refuses, Half-Life 2 still happens. All we see is him standing in front of a bunch of aliens and then the credits rolling. Those could be fake. The G-Man put Freeman in stasis anyways.
