Big update on Stop Killing Games!

I guess I can't attach things because of site limitations because of Stop Killing Games? Good things .srt files are just renamed txt files! Here you go:

1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,080
Hey, I have some announcements
on Stop Killing Games,

2
00:00:04,080 --> 00:00:05,840
and I'm going to be
looking away a lot,

3
00:00:05,840 --> 00:00:08,720
because my mind tends to go blank
when I look into the camera,

4
00:00:08,720 --> 00:00:10,966
and I don't want to memorize this.

5
00:00:10,966 --> 00:00:13,600
Okay, the breaking news:

6
00:00:13,600 --> 00:00:18,520
The European Citizens' Initiative
has crossed 1 million signatures.

7
00:00:18,520 --> 00:00:20,400
Except it hasn't.

8
00:00:20,400 --> 00:00:24,240
This is going to kill morale,
but there are two things going on here.

9
00:00:24,240 --> 00:00:26,240
The first we knew was coming.

10
00:00:26,240 --> 00:00:29,200
Every time somebody makes a mistake
when they sign the Initiative,

11
00:00:29,200 --> 00:00:31,200
their signature gets invalidated.

12
00:00:31,200 --> 00:00:35,040
So that means we need more signatures
to make up for everybody's mistakes.

13
00:00:35,040 --> 00:00:36,880
It kind of reminds me
of multiplayer games

14
00:00:36,880 --> 00:00:39,760
when you see somebody who just
has no idea what they're doing,

15
00:00:39,760 --> 00:00:42,560
like they're attacking
a wall or something.

16
00:00:42,560 --> 00:00:43,840
So in this case,

17
00:00:43,840 --> 00:00:45,520
we need to pick up
the slack for the people

18
00:00:45,520 --> 00:00:48,940
who literally can't write
their own name properly.

19
00:00:48,940 --> 00:00:51,120
That could be a lot.

20
00:00:51,120 --> 00:00:52,967
I've heard 10% minimum,

21
00:00:52,967 --> 00:00:54,734
20% is better,

22
00:00:54,734 --> 00:00:57,433
40% should be really safe.

23
00:00:57,433 --> 00:01:00,880
Or it would be,
but we have a second problem.

24
00:01:00,880 --> 00:01:02,367
I've received several reports

25
00:01:02,367 --> 00:01:06,240
of people claiming to spoof
signatures on the Initiative site.

26
00:01:06,240 --> 00:01:10,240
First off, I want to say that
this is not a Change.org petition.

27
00:01:10,240 --> 00:01:12,240
This is a government process.

28
00:01:12,240 --> 00:01:15,360
Spoofing signatures on it is a crime.

29
00:01:15,360 --> 00:01:17,066
Please do not do this.

30
00:01:17,066 --> 00:01:20,080
They'll be checked later
by the EU Commission,

31
00:01:20,080 --> 00:01:24,080
and my guess is the fake ones will get
turned over to Europol or Interpol,

32
00:01:24,080 --> 00:01:25,633
and they'll follow up on this.

33
00:01:25,633 --> 00:01:27,600
If it's coming from America,

34
00:01:27,600 --> 00:01:31,200
Interpol is known to
cooperate a lot with the FBI.

35
00:01:31,200 --> 00:01:33,760
Now, will they
prosecute people on this?

36
00:01:33,760 --> 00:01:35,360
I have no idea.

37
00:01:35,360 --> 00:01:38,320
Europe takes its political
processes pretty seriously,

38
00:01:38,320 --> 00:01:40,240
so I would think the
more it's being spoofed,

39
00:01:40,240 --> 00:01:43,840
the more they might send
law enforcement after people doing this.

40
00:01:43,840 --> 00:01:46,320
Again, I would not
suggest doing this.

41
00:01:46,320 --> 00:01:49,766
It seems like a bad thing
to risk going to prison over.

42
00:01:49,766 --> 00:01:51,234
But the problem here is

43
00:01:51,234 --> 00:01:56,080
I am now in a complete fog as to
how much this affects the Initiative.

44
00:01:56,080 --> 00:01:57,120
Now, don't worry.

45
00:01:57,120 --> 00:01:59,360
None of this will
invalidate the Initiative.

46
00:01:59,360 --> 00:02:02,000
All legitimate
signatures will still count.

47
00:02:02,000 --> 00:02:04,160
But that 1 million number?

48
00:02:04,160 --> 00:02:06,560
Yeah, it might not be real.

49
00:02:06,560 --> 00:02:11,760
I think we have at least
600–700,000 real signatures.

50
00:02:11,760 --> 00:02:14,080
Beyond that, I don't know.

51
00:02:14,080 --> 00:02:16,000
Maybe it's just one or
two people who tried it,

52
00:02:16,000 --> 00:02:18,160
and this is nothing to worry about.

53
00:02:18,160 --> 00:02:20,320
Or maybe it's a sophisticated botnet

54
00:02:20,320 --> 00:02:22,800
spoofing hundreds of
thousands of signatures.

55
00:02:22,800 --> 00:02:24,640
I have no clue.

56
00:02:24,640 --> 00:02:26,560
In fact, I noticed a few days ago,

57
00:02:26,560 --> 00:02:29,600
we were getting a good rise
in the day, European time,

58
00:02:29,600 --> 00:02:33,360
but then it would fall off a lot at night,
because people were going to bed.

59
00:02:33,360 --> 00:02:36,080
Now, it seems like it's
rising a lot through the night.

60
00:02:36,080 --> 00:02:38,560
So, maybe most of
this is an illusion now.

61
00:02:38,560 --> 00:02:40,800
We may not have won anything.

62
00:02:40,800 --> 00:02:43,120
I have to give credit where it's due.

63
00:02:43,120 --> 00:02:46,960
I was looking forward to reaching
a safe margin and putting this behind me,

64
00:02:46,960 --> 00:02:49,840
but now I guess I have to
keep this up until July 31st,

65
00:02:49,840 --> 00:02:52,640
because now there's no
such thing as a safe margin.

66
00:02:52,640 --> 00:02:54,960
I have no idea what's real now.

67
00:02:54,960 --> 00:02:58,240
So, for people who hate
the Initiative, you got me.

68
00:02:58,240 --> 00:03:01,760
This makes my life harder,
and now I'm on the hook even longer.

69
00:03:01,760 --> 00:03:05,280
I will be so happy
for this campaign to end.

70
00:03:05,280 --> 00:03:08,800
Actually, if you're really
good at data analysis,

71
00:03:08,800 --> 00:03:13,100
I'd say try to look at those first
couple days around June 24th and 25th,

72
00:03:13,100 --> 00:03:15,840
especially when
MoistCr1TiKaL dropped his video.

73
00:03:15,840 --> 00:03:20,720
I remember seeing about a 5% increase
in signatures proportional to his views.

74
00:03:20,720 --> 00:03:26,160
So, it might be safe to assume big YouTube
views translate to 5% real signatures.

75
00:03:26,160 --> 00:03:29,360
Maybe you can figure out
what our real margin needs to be.

76
00:03:29,360 --> 00:03:32,000
So, yeah, that sucks.

77
00:03:32,000 --> 00:03:36,240
We'll just keep plotting away unless we
can figure out what the safe numbers are.

78
00:03:36,240 --> 00:03:38,960
Sorry this isn't a big
victory celebration.

79
00:03:38,960 --> 00:03:41,680
This is just kind of
suspenseful and tense instead,

80
00:03:41,680 --> 00:03:44,400
and will probably hurt morale
of people signing.

81
00:03:44,400 --> 00:03:45,760
You know how in World War II,

82
00:03:45,760 --> 00:03:49,360
the Japanese had soldiers
entrenched in a bunch of Pacific islands,

83
00:03:49,360 --> 00:03:53,360
except some of them never got the memo
when the war ended in 1945,

84
00:03:53,360 --> 00:03:57,200
so they just stayed there for years,
assuming the war was still on?

85
00:03:57,200 --> 00:03:59,840
That's kind of where I am
right now mentally.

86
00:03:59,840 --> 00:04:02,300
At least it all ends in a month.

87
00:04:02,300 --> 00:04:05,040
Okay, another announcement:

88
00:04:05,040 --> 00:04:09,680
We've gotten reports that some countries,
I think Italy and Belgium especially,

89
00:04:09,680 --> 00:04:13,120
where sometimes the
digital ID system didn't work.

90
00:04:13,120 --> 00:04:16,240
In those cases, I'd say
either use the manual method,

91
00:04:16,240 --> 00:04:19,520
which we have instructions for on
StopKillingGames.com,

92
00:04:19,520 --> 00:04:23,120
or you could try coming back in
a few days and see if it's working.

93
00:04:23,120 --> 00:04:24,400
Another news item,

94
00:04:24,400 --> 00:04:27,280
I've been told someone has
launched a cryptocurrency

95
00:04:27,280 --> 00:04:30,080
based on Stop Killing Games.

96
00:04:30,080 --> 00:04:32,880
Dumbest timeline, guys.

97
00:04:32,880 --> 00:04:36,480
Just so everyone's clear,
that had nothing to do with us.

98
00:04:36,480 --> 00:04:39,120
I have no clue who
would even want that.

99
00:04:39,120 --> 00:04:41,080
I'm sure it's a scam.

100
00:04:41,080 --> 00:04:44,166
So, yeah, that's all there is to it.

101
00:04:44,166 --> 00:04:46,160
Something else to cover quick is

102
00:04:46,160 --> 00:04:50,320
I've heard a couple reports of
people harassing Pirate Software.

103
00:04:50,320 --> 00:04:53,380
I feel like this goes without
saying, but if it doesn't,

104
00:04:53,380 --> 00:04:57,600
no, of course we do not
endorse harassing him.

105
00:04:57,600 --> 00:04:59,467
I mean, I said in my response video,

106
00:04:59,467 --> 00:05:02,540
I wished him no ill will,
and I meant that.

107
00:05:02,540 --> 00:05:04,080
You know why?

108
00:05:04,080 --> 00:05:06,000
When people's lives are better,

109
00:05:06,000 --> 00:05:09,520
they tend to be less inclined
to format some sort of revenge,

110
00:05:09,520 --> 00:05:13,120
and I'm taking on enough heat
already without adding to the pile.

111
00:05:13,120 --> 00:05:16,300
I mean, I'm getting some
crazies heading my way, too.

112
00:05:16,300 --> 00:05:18,960
Though, I can believe
it's not as many.

113
00:05:18,960 --> 00:05:20,800
I also pointed out last time,

114
00:05:20,800 --> 00:05:24,560
whatever damage Thor did to
the campaign has been neutralized.

115
00:05:24,560 --> 00:05:28,080
So, whatever happens
is not on him anymore.

116
00:05:28,080 --> 00:05:31,840
I'll also say, I don't know what
the hell everyone is up to, either.

117
00:05:31,840 --> 00:05:33,520
This is a lot bigger than me.

118
00:05:33,520 --> 00:05:38,480
I can barely keep up with the campaign,
let alone him or all the supporters.

119
00:05:38,480 --> 00:05:41,760
We do have moderators in
our Discord trying their best.

120
00:05:41,760 --> 00:05:45,840
I've literally seen them ban someone
suggesting bad action against others.

121
00:05:45,840 --> 00:05:48,000
Beyond that, I know very little,

122
00:05:48,000 --> 00:05:51,600
and have even less control over
what the rest of the internet is up to.

123
00:05:51,600 --> 00:05:53,600
I'm focused on the signatures.

124
00:05:53,600 --> 00:05:56,080
If Thor and I never
bother each other again,

125
00:05:56,080 --> 00:05:59,280
that is just fine by me.

126
00:05:59,280 --> 00:06:02,780
I also don't hold him responsible
for anything his fanbase does.

127
00:06:02,780 --> 00:06:05,360
I'm not a fan of
collective punishment.

128
00:06:05,360 --> 00:06:06,467
And on the flipside,

129
00:06:06,467 --> 00:06:09,120
Stop Killing Games
is a populist movement.

130
00:06:09,120 --> 00:06:11,520
That's the very definition of messy.

131
00:06:11,520 --> 00:06:15,040
I can control that like
I can control the weather.

132
00:06:15,040 --> 00:06:17,520
Oh, and speaking
of barely keeping up:

133
00:06:17,520 --> 00:06:20,320
I've been having to play triage
on emails and messages

134
00:06:20,320 --> 00:06:23,680
and prioritize the ones
most critical for the campaign.

135
00:06:23,680 --> 00:06:25,920
So, a lot of you are going
to get a delayed response,

136
00:06:25,920 --> 00:06:27,840
but I should mostly catch up

137
00:06:27,840 --> 00:06:29,200
eventually.

138
00:06:29,200 --> 00:06:31,520
Okay, the final announcement:

139
00:06:31,520 --> 00:06:35,600
The UK government petition
has cleared 100,000 signatures,

140
00:06:35,600 --> 00:06:38,720
and I suspect these
signatures are more legit,

141
00:06:38,720 --> 00:06:41,820
though you can keep on
signing it too as a safety margin.

142
00:06:41,820 --> 00:06:44,240
More will not hurt anything.

143
00:06:44,240 --> 00:06:46,640
So, what should we expect from this?

144
00:06:46,640 --> 00:06:48,880
I honestly have no idea.

145
00:06:48,880 --> 00:06:53,200
I would bet money on the EU Initiative
delivering something good if it passes,

146
00:06:53,200 --> 00:06:56,880
but the UK has been more
about exhausting all options.

147
00:06:56,880 --> 00:06:58,560
I will say whatever happens

148
00:06:58,560 --> 00:07:00,320
cannot be worse than the old answer

149
00:07:00,320 --> 00:07:03,340
from the Department of
Media, Culture and Sport.

150
00:07:03,340 --> 00:07:06,320
Yeah, we get to leapfrog
over this garbage.

151
00:07:06,320 --> 00:07:08,400
This really is recycled garbage.

152
00:07:08,400 --> 00:07:10,880
Remember, we tried
to launch this last year,

153
00:07:10,880 --> 00:07:12,900
and they gave us an
answer that was so bad,

154
00:07:12,900 --> 00:07:14,800
it was rejected by the
Petitions Committee,

155
00:07:14,800 --> 00:07:18,460
and they told Government to try again
because this didn't answer the question.

156
00:07:18,460 --> 00:07:20,800
But then, Parliament was dissolved,

157
00:07:20,800 --> 00:07:23,280
and when it came back
and we relaunched again,

158
00:07:23,280 --> 00:07:26,800
we got the same answer
copied and pasted into the new one,

159
00:07:26,800 --> 00:07:28,560
just rearranged a little bit.

160
00:07:28,560 --> 00:07:31,120
Part of me suspects
all action in the UK

161
00:07:31,120 --> 00:07:34,720
has been held up by one grumpy
bureaucrat in the department.

162
00:07:34,720 --> 00:07:38,240
Well, now we can ignore that crap
and head straight to Parliament.

163
00:07:38,240 --> 00:07:40,480
I mean, they cannot
do worse than this.

164
00:07:40,480 --> 00:07:43,280
A member of Parliament
could sneeze on the petition,

165
00:07:43,280 --> 00:07:45,200
and that would not be a worse answer.

166
00:07:45,200 --> 00:07:50,240
And that's the one guaranteed thing
we'll get out of this, which is answers.

167
00:07:50,240 --> 00:07:52,600
Now, for those of you
wanting to juice this further,

168
00:07:52,600 --> 00:07:54,080
it's been brought to my attention

169
00:07:54,080 --> 00:07:56,960
there's a page for finding out
who your member of Parliament is

170
00:07:56,960 --> 00:08:01,466
if you want to reach out and tell them,
"Yes, bring this up in Parliament."

171
00:08:01,466 --> 00:08:03,920
I'd say, yeah, that could help.

172
00:08:03,920 --> 00:08:06,960
But that absolutely is more
work than signing your name,

173
00:08:06,960 --> 00:08:09,280
so I'm keeping my
expectations in check.

174
00:08:09,280 --> 00:08:11,666
There's a link in the
description of this video.

175
00:08:11,666 --> 00:08:13,100
Okay, that's it.

176
00:08:13,100 --> 00:08:14,720
Just keep pushing.

177
00:08:14,720 --> 00:08:16,120
Now we're in the fog.

178
00:08:16,120 --> 00:08:18,361

Heyo, Erasmus.  Thank you so much for this.  Noticed a few typos while I was going through this, which I have fixed before uploading it to the video (Subs up!, by the way):

1. @3:32, Ross says "plodding" rather than "plotting".
2. @5:06, Ross says "foment" rather than "format".

3. @6:27, I add an ellipsis before "eventually" to communicate that there was a pregnant pause there.

I have attached an updated SRT.  Beyond that, thanks again!

I specifically omitted the ellipsis at 6:27 because of this. "To delay dramatic responses (However, if a response is not expected, a cumulative can give the game away)"

A viewer without subtitles believes the sentence is over, so a viewer watching with subtitles must experience the same thing. Ross surprises both by amending the sentence at the end. Putting an ellipsis there makes it obvious, spoiling that it goes on, and ruins the effect.
