  1. What episode was the fan in, if you can recall? 75 sounds like a decent count to me - there's a great deal of just walking around in the reactor section if I remember correctly. Unless he cuts it short, which he might (probably like the fight before the xen portal), but I don't know!
  2. I believe the technical term is "war"
  3. The spinning stars were at the part where he had to bring the scientists to the door to unlock it (specific, I know) - it was a room with a solar system model or something that was actually just a scientist blender you had to activate to move them out of the way? Anyway, I'm pretty sure it was right before the room where you use the laser to blow up the wall so I think it's passed. It doesn't help that he isn't picking up the weapons he should have at this point, haha. Those were pretty much the biggest landmarks I can remember - has he gone by all the available weapons yet? So he's on his way to the part with the reactor and the exploding catwalks - is that also the part with the giant fan? And then after that, the portal rooms and then straight to zen? Man, I had no idea how close it was!
  4. Similarly, I've played through HL1 twice, but I don't remember the majority of the parts that you're going through! And the parts I do remember are all out of order! After this episode, all I remember is that long catwalk over the dam with the helicopter and another shark and that weird room with the spinning stars and the scientists (or have you already done that?). Also the landmine canyon with the things you fought back in the rocket test chamber. It's sort of coming back now. Does anyone know how far into the game he is?
  5. That's what it looks like to me, as well. The comparisons to FTL are inevitable, but looking at this video: The added parts about having to control your ship will certainly make a big difference
  6. Greetings! I'm not sure what the ruling is on games that aren't out yet (also games that are not yet popular, but I'm certain will catch up soon!), but I recently came across a promising game that's launching a kickstarter campaign soon, a game called Galactic Princess! I'm posting it here for one because the art style is amazing and I want to steal it, but also because the forums there have all of 10 people in them which means this game needs WAY more exposure! I believe there was a Rock Paper Shotgun article about it, so hopefully that will help them out, but this game looks fantastic and I really want it to get as much exposure as it can, so check it out! look at this picture, it's beautiful oh my god
  7. That looks awesome O: I went on something similar to that in Vermont, but as I recall it was a halfpipe and you were going down in a sled thing, although I'm sure the strict American safety laws kept it rather tame. That ride (no breaks!!) looks like a ton of fun! As for the videos, a good start and hopefully more to come! Practice makes perfect, but don't be afraid to try new things!
  8. Congratulations! Do you get to make a speech?
  9. Wollay AKA "Take the money and run" AKA the creator of cube world recently put up a new blog post (the first one in 4 months since the release of the open alpha, I might add): https://picroma.com/blog/post/10 as you might be able to tell, I'm still a little burnt and this update doesn't seem substantial enough to really make up for the immediate hiatus, but hopefully it'll pick up soon
  10. Great episode! This series continues to remind me how many silly things the level designers make you do. It's strange how that doesn't register at all when you're playing the actual game.

    Fjords

So recently I came across a game called Fjords which is a sort of indie platformer based around the idea of "hacking the environment" - here's a nice article on the game: http://indiestatik.com/2013/10/31/fjords/ I've played around with it a bit (the game didn't work at first, but after a quick reply from the dev, I got it working) and it's has some very interesting and frankly enjoyable game mechanics - worth the 7$ or whatever it is just to play around with the concepts for a while. The story of the game is that you are a waylaid pizza delivery boy delivering pizzas to scientists on science mountain and, well, it's all uphill from there. I'd seriously recommend checking it out, if not for the unique gameplay ideas then for the amazingly quirky sounds that the game has. Edit - it has a "name your price" option; 7 is just a recommendation. I'm not sure if that means you can pay nothing, but the minimum probably isn't much
  12. Ross, do you intend to ever foray into the world of modern indie gaming? If it's obscurity you're looking after, there's plenty to be found there! Anyway, if you're worried about competing with other review shows in terms of depth and thoroughness, I would say that it isn't that big of an issue. Youtube is, afterall, a personality driven form of media. While it may seem odd that information based videos would still rely heavily on personality, keep in mind that 95% of the people watching aren't watching for the intention of finding a new game to play, they are watching to hear the stories and opinions you have about the game. Similar to Dwarf Fortress, often times hearing about a game is more enjoyable (at least enjoyable in a more time efficient way) than playing the game yourself, therefore a "review" of the game in the style you've been doing serves just as much as entertainment as does any other sort of pure entertainment, just under the guise of being informative. And entertainment is a personality driven pursuit - of which you've got plenty. Although you may feel, as the creator, that your job is to deliver a thorough and deep image of the game, the product's view count may not reflect the same attitude.
  13. I'm immensely enjoying these reviews (or, rather, retrospectives or something, I don't really know what to call it). I know that forum posts on your own website are liable to be bias, but I really think this is much better than the majority of drivel out there.
  14. Personally, with the right exposure, I think these kinds of videos could be a future for you. If you look at the majority of the popular youtube gamers, 80% of the content is game reviews anyway. When it boils down to it, youtube is just entertainment and entertainment is driven nearly entirely by personality. I think you have the personality to attract a lot of attention and the video editing experience to hit it strong without any mishaps! (Also, I really want to see you play one of those silly cooperative games with someone)
  15. I mean, he did clearly state that his post was "in character", which I assume is the character of Gordon Freeman and I suppose he's referencing Freeman's Mind as some sort of snuff film that he doesn't think the world should see? I'm not entirely sure, honestly, but I don't think any harm was meant by it
  16. I, uh I think he's roleplaying
  17. Thank you! I'd be glad to contribute in any way I can!
  18. I'm not so sure I could create an infographic, but have some fan art (: if you like my style, I'll gladly make more! Otherwise, all the luck in the world to you guys.
  19. I know you're a DF fan, ross, so here's a little something I came across in my travels: Asno SwelterFires, The Parched! A wretched fire demon that sits atop the cursed throne of PaperDevils, lording over the sinister, arid plane from his twisted, obsidian tower! But, alas, poor Asno's reign was short. The demon raged against the interlopers of PaperDevils until even the obsidian tower itself was aflame. From the safety of my Dwarven outpost, I watched. The sea of flames sparked by the demon engulfed indiscriminately! Goblins, Elves, Dwarves (many of whom my sworm compatriots!), Kobolds... Friends and foes... Subjects and interlopers... None were spared. And as Asno descended on the flaming field, his demonic laughter could be heard for leagues away! Death was his only joy, the inferno his only companion! And, oh, how he embraced the flames when they met. Oh, how he clung to the embers though they scorched his flesh. And the embrace was returned ten fold! His hatred and anger consumed him that day. PaperDevils had become his pyre. He stood laughing in the flames at the destruction he had wrought. Asno! A demon born in flames was taken once more from this world by their embrace. [you'd think a fire demon would be a little bit more fireproof! Unfortunately, this ruined my plan of caging him and then creating a fire demon run incinerator ): ]
  20. These last few episodes feel a lot stronger than FM has been for a while! Really, it feels like a certain amount of energy has come back into the series and I'm glad to see it reach these levels again! Great job, looking forward to more.
  21. Honestly, I think this would be a great thing for Ross to do - definitely look into it (Although I'm not sure if it would conflict contractually with his TGWTG thing) My only confusion about the site would be about time limits. If a project dies, will the site itself shut down the page and cancel all subscriptions to it? If a project stops receiving support will they have a limited amount of time to keep the page up or will it exist indefinitely? Are they going to allow you to put a time limit on your subscription to a project?
  22. I believe all of the shows they have on that list originated within RT (rage quit was part of the RT community to begin with). I'm not trying to be a debby downer, by all means contact them and set things straight, but it just hasn't happened before. To my knowledge, at least.
  23. For everyone talking about RT - I don't think they're very much in the business of buying content. The only instance I can think of is when they took on Rage Quit, which was already a community video to begin with. Also, your avatar reminds me of this or, well, that's not entirely right some sort of insect, though it's uncanny valley stuff
  24. How much of FM does machinima own? I mean, can Ross just take it and move it somewhere else or is it machinima or nothing? That's what worries me
  25. I hope it's not some kind of meta-ending where it breaks the fourth wall or something. Or, I don't know, maybe it's not ambitious conceptually, but visually or subject-wise. I hope they aren't trying too hard to make something groundbreaking - that generally ends in the ending being forced and largely irrelevant. Whatever the case is, I bet their PR team is tearing their hair out; claims like this always leave a lot of people disappointed.
