Too bloody long. I'm in NYC, so-
NYCHA projects have been around since the 40s, 50s, 60s.
Often what gets knocked down are townhouses and low-rises. Then, highrises and skyscrapers are built.
If it's over 10 stories, it's not very likely to come down any time soon, unless sold off to some rich developer. But if it's public housing, it's not coming down because the state doesn't want to build new housing for the residents within, even if it means the houses are messed up electricity wise, maintenance wise, living standard wise.
The plan back when they were made was sure, it'll be replaced in two generations, but that was the 80s, and the city was not in a good place in the 80s, so then maybe the 90s...then nothing happened...then the 00s....nothing happened....10s, now we're in the 20s. And all NYCHA can do is sell parts of their land off (there's a lot of empty garden space and so on) to developers to build on instead.
Instead of, ya know, using that to make temporary housing for the residents and knock down the old buildings and make modern new housing that can house more for better?
I mean I still support the selling off part of land anyway, but the city is basically praying that the building standards of the 40s is just good enough that they could squeeze out 100 years than 40 years out of these buildings.
But, they're also already privatizing management of some units. I think the economics is that, surely, NYCHA thinks its too expensive to do in house...so they go to some new up-and-coming or small management agency and pay them less than what they would pay NYCHA and hope somehow that...what, the new parties want to look good performance wise and do more for less?

Coming back to this thread, The Void is a good film. It's not tied to lovecraft in any way but it's just a good film in the same sort of spirit.

Let's just face it: Lovecraft wasn't a good writer. He was shat on in his own time, and his writings now are seen as very verbose, repetitive, and do what they won't say to do. It's more of the themes, elements, characters, and general plotlines in his works that hook people now adays than his own works.
Mountains of Madness was a fucking slog to get through....
In either case, Color out of Space (2019) is the 'best' and most accurate or in-spirit accurate so far. Followed, far behind, by The Dunwich Horror, 1970. And both take liberties with his work, and The Dunwich Horror is just a pile of garbage.
Everything else just takes a name from the Mythos and runs with it, or is influenced by his works.

The fact that this thread is from 2013, and has probably been discussed seriously since the 90s, and will probably be discussed until the mid-century, speaks volumes.
The US has problems. But most people who can influence those problems are working for their side to fix/win those problems by the established means, not abandon ship or wreck it all.

I can't speak for the Republican party but it's very easy for a leftist to throw their hands in the air in a moment of emotional desperation and say 'fuck it, let the opposition win, let them run stuff, show the rest of the country how bad it could really get' - accelerationist BS.
It's self-destructive because the opposition doesn't just rule, it entrenches itself, and politics affects the world every second of a ruling administration as millions of people work together or against each other. That shit ripples. But it's seen as a 'nuclear' option, but thankfully a lot of it is hot air than anything forming on the ground.

And I will not be looking into this, but I do know that the cycle of fires in California were always said to be climate change too, and they weren't. it was just an insurance scam. The Plandemic is another case where we see globalists clutching the bag of gold around their neck and offering loans to businesses they're knowingly crushing in way to offer a sort of adhoc insurance policy, with interest. The point here is that the media will wrap up anything happening in the world in a wrapper that they'd like everyone to hear, and the latest thing everyone wants to hear is that they're Very Smart™ for listening to Science™. I have to tell you, it's quite amazing that all of a sudden the human behavior I've seen my whole life of humans being social creatures, especially women, has gone away and everyone is simply a Very Intelligent™ Scientist™, yet the final result is identical, save with people repeating words related to Intelligence™. I'm not sure what you're referring to above, however, if you're talking about preset-day Europe (I'm unaware of any war or the like), nearly entirely everything happening there, and *definitely* everything that is about to happen in Europe with a year or two, is the effect of deglobalization on a CONTINENT that is completely disconnected from political reality. They have a banking crisis, economic crisis, demographic crisis, cultural crisis, a refugee crisis (that they haven't even began planning when to send them back to their home countries when no longer need refuge), and they haven't even began to so much as apply a bandaid to anything, except Britain leaving the EU.
I haven't heard this, and to be honest, this sounds like a convenient excuse for deglobalization. As mentioned before, the Plandemic shutdown has caused people to move out of NYC, and climate change is just another wrapper the media would love to put on everything. Get it? This is what happens to people who've lost religion. They gain superstitions about things, as the human brain's attraction to unworldly things goes on without conscious thought. Having been aloof from my Christian roots for several years I have to say that I never anticipated superstitions in first world nations, yet here we are with animal worshipers, people who *believe* in karama, hinduism (rather than Greek Stoicism (take note of the propensity to bypass western culture)), i know people who think they're intellectuals even though they get high every single day (and have done so for years and years) and get drunk 4-7 day per week, the list goes on.

It is bloody affecting me right now. You think I like sweltering in a increasingly hotter sub tropic clime? You think I like having no more white holiday seasons of my youth, or snow storms that last a day and turn the streets into rivers by the week's end? My personal comfort is dented by it. That's what. Simple as.
Why would I stop worrying about Syrians because a lot of them (but not all of them) are religious? Their bad harvests caused a civil war which caused destabilization and attacks throughout the west. It affects me. It affected people I know. It affects the government that overlords me. So try again. Everything is connected, everything is set off by the innumerable and minute choices and actions of thousands of years of civilization before, ongoing, and to come. Daeshi fucks have targeted NYC, I'll have you know. It also set off a reactionary wave in Europe, which further goes against causes I espouse, so, again. Affects me. This isn't superstition, this is stuff that changes how we live on the ground, day-to-day.

This may be a shock to you but since Athiests don't delusion themselves with a afterlife or imaginary friends, they know that we have one material world to share and maybe trashing it isn't the best course of outcome?
We're also suffering from Climate Change now. expanding Droughts, the aquifers are drying up, wild fires, brisker winters, changing environs, this is happening within our lifetimes. Syria's whole situation could had been sparked by a bad drought, and look at the geo-socio-political ramifications of one measly civil war in Europe that sparked a Alt-Right surgence across the globe and all the domino effects thereof.NYC has become hotter and drier in my own 25 years. If I expect to live another 50 more, why live in a sweltering, worsening hellhole? So even if you think Atheists are selfish dicks, they're going to experience a changing clime in their own lifetimes, thus ticking off the selfish-concern box.
But you won't care. Not with that loaded, biased' language. Maybe two other posters will give you a reach around and a few others to me but you're obviously not coming in here in good faith or with a open mind.

To the surprise of both no one, and everyone, the polls were wrong, Biden got no real swing states, and the map basically looks like 2016 2.0.

Trump has declared he will take the count to the supreme court and that counting should stop immediately. Pence tried to backtrack this, saying all 'legally whatever votes' will be counted, but no one listens to Pence, so that's as good as dirt.
+10 in the polls might as well be +1.
And as always 100,000,000 Americans decided to not vote this year, at all. Neither candidate has more than 70 million votes, out of an electorate in the 240,000,000 range. Thankfully however it does seem third parties were absolutely trashed, as they should be in this winner-take-all system.
In the Senate race, the Republicans maintain their control, with both apparently hated Mitch McConnel and Lindsey Graham flying back into their seats.
In the House race, no one cares, as the House is useless. The Squad got re-elected.
This is the absolute worst case scenario for Biden. Even losing handily would had been better, as the institutions of the Republic wouldn't be made a mockery of in a stacked court. But now even if Biden somehow gets 269, 270, or 271 EC, it'll go to the courts, every state will have a recount, mailed in votes will probably be thrashed, and either Pence or ABC will be the deciding factor when the electors come to call. And even if, somehow, Biden gets into the Oval Office, it'll be with a Republican Senate. Don't even think about the Supreme Court, the Democrats are in no position to either amend it or pack it or expand it or whatever, even in their best case scenarios. Which...this isn't. This was a absolute flounder for the Democratic Party.
Violence and rioting is near non-existent as everyone went home hours ago but we'll see how this will boil over in the coming days. I took work off for yesterday and today, good call on my part I figure. And hey. 100th post. Couldn't be fitting enough.... -

And it's obvious, right? You don't want to be fat, ergo, don't eat Fat. But what about eating too much sugar? Oh ignore that. Chow down in 100 g of Sugar a day. Oh and calories? And most of this is just soft stuff. It's not warpath level stuff. McDonalds, if you recall, DID change their policies on coffee, on supersizing, on beef tallow in fries. But that was because after years of back and forth, it just wasn't worth it to continue, i.e the free market forced it, not legislation. SUperSize Me. The Coffe Case costing millions in fees and the risk of more such cases. Beef Tallow was axed due to a rising vegetarian trend, sparked in part by that diet-anti-fat trend above. And McDonalds was suffering a bad pr image. Pink Slime - though governments did get on that eventually, and more.
Think of the pull NewsCorp and Sinclair has on information, already, which I would say is on a active warpath to influence society. The corporations will reach around and hit the living room, appeal to the masses, plaster every ad with attack ads so novel and succint people wouldn't even know they were attack ads, hit the NGOs to get mouthpieces to support them (As in the NYC Soda Cap ban where PepsiCo and Coca Cola hit Hispanic and African American groups as they consume more of that product), and other stuff that'll creep in or be nailed into the zeitgeist. Now imagine that for issues on lobbying - defense contracts, infrastructure, bids for government contracts. That'll go just as far - 'Lockheed has employed millions and produced the jets and vehicles that defended America. Senator So-and-So blocks us from getting you jobs and getting pilots in the air', posted out in the Rust Belt or Sun Belt. People will beg for lobbying to return or run on pro-business revisionist tickets. Protests and marches will be organized, akin to the Tea Party ones. After all unless you ban interest groups, the money will manifest in action on the ground. And if the economy and workforce is so crippled enough, people will beg and sign up to advocate for 'pro-economy', 'pro-business' orgs and action.

Meh. We got rid of Pork in the 90s and Partisanship shot through the roof. Senators had no need to go across the aisle, it became a zero-sum-game - you don't need a Democrat and a Republican senator, you just need two REpublican or two Democratic senators, thus it became a race for total control.
I think getting rid of Citizens United would be a good step, but outright removing lobbying or revolving door stuff just means the money will be directed to private groups, paramilitary groups, associated groups. The masses can be swayed by targeted campaign, we already see this in advertising as in the Soda 'Cap' in NYC or McDonalds Hot Coffee Case. Now imagine the lobby money going into efforts to sway the masses, radicalise them, gather them for support.
These things just have a way of snaking out and about. Got rid of the Spoils System and Patronage, we get Pork and Lobbying. Got rid of the Pork, we get extreme partianship. Get rid of the lobbying, mass radicalization and stirring's probably gonna follow.

Oh, sure, but someone is going to try to recoup and make a profit off of this. Microsoft ain't a charity, they have plans, even if it's just 'adding a new revenue stream to buff up our yearly profit'. And the only way they can do that is to make and sell product.
