The Ur Quan Masters is a fan made remake of Star Control 2 created in 1992 for both the PC and the 3DO, it garnered critical acclaim and still enjoys a cult following today due to the fact that you can download it free here --> http://sc2.sourceforge.net

 

I started playing it when I found a LP of it on Youtube and it is immensely enjoying to play, it combines a huge open world with an amazing story-line and massive amounts of history and lore to learn. I suggest you download it and give it a go because it really is incredibly enjoyable and immersive.

 

 

You're able to meet loads of different species and you can hundreds of star systems, why wouldn't you want to give it a go?

Never heard of this before. Seems similar to Elite, just without the 3d vector graphics.

I might give it a try some time, though space simulation games are usually not my cup of tea.

It's more like an open world game set in space rather than a space sim.
