SAA & allies have recently cut-off Aleppo's main supply route.

The opposition seems to be loosing militarily on all fronts.

Will Turkey step in to save their proxies? If so, how will Russia react.

Follow up: will Turkey have the right evoke NATO article 5 if Russia retaliates.

UPDATE

02/13/16

Turkey shelled kurds.

SAA shelled Turkey.

Turkey shelled SAA (can't confirm 100%)

Saudis are throwing their hat into the ring as well.

Things are getting pretty heated. How high will this escalate?

The Turks won't have the balls to invade...

And no one will support them - not the US, nor the UK or anyone else...

And I can't see what can they possibly achieve by such a stupid move...

So, no...

RIght, but they are part of NATO and everyone is obligated to help them out if they are attacked. By invading they would appear as the aggressor attacking a sovereign nation, and thus NATO article 5 won't apply.

BUT, Obama and the gang have been more or less saying that Assad is no longer legitimate, so they may do some realpolitik gymnastics to justify coming to Turkey's aid. After all, Turkey is still the biggest partner they have that's geographical a thorn in Russia's side.

But in doing so the Americans will go against Iran, more than just Russia and they won't do that. The US will close their eyes on Assad now. They will do a deal with Russia and Iran. The first round of talks has failed but that's perfectly normal. There will be more now.

The US doesn't have enough power in the region and more importantly - the will to use more power to force the issue by a military way and the Turks are not considered a trusted ally by anyone. Turkey has its own agenda and nobody likes it.

Hmmm, you're probably right, but who really knows what goes on in these people's minds.

In 2013 you would've put in a straight jacket if you predicted that Russia would annex Crimea.

Well, yes - that was difficult to imagine back then. Still, nobody really cares what is going on between Russia and its provinces. But everyone is scared witless that the Middle East may completely explode, so...
