Salt and Sanctuary

It really does try to be 2D Dark Souls. I am not a master of the 2D platformer so all I can say is that it felt like combat was missing something that made it satisfying to pour my hours into.

Brilliant game, but definitely not for people who like vanilla Metroidvanias. Mechanically nails its attempt to be 2D souls. It's just severely lacking in customization/ weapon upgrades.

excellent 2D Souls-like. even though Ross classified it as a platformer, that's not really what this game is about (platforming is the least interesting part). combat, atmosphere, story — that's the main course.

the meat of the game is its melee combat. so, 2D Action.

coming back to this, I have to say — I can't recommend this game to Ross, on the count of it being a Souls-like.

I had not played DS, when i bought this and i could not find a way in.

Years later, after my "ohhh! this is why every one loves DS" phase, and after loving the DS series to pieces, i came back.

It's no Platformer! 

It's DS in 2D! Nothing more, nothing less.

It took me some playing to "get" this game, but once I did I was hooked. Definitely a lot more enjoyable if you've played Dark Souls 1, it's still fun and different enough that you won't feel like you're missing anything
